UAEBbY launches 2025 creative writing competition
Annual initiative
This annual competition is part of the "Read, Dream, Create" campaign, launched by the board in 2013 to strengthen the relationship between children and books, promote reading and literary creativity within the UAE community, and offer young creatives the opportunity to develop their abilities and enter the fields of literature and publishing.
Unique opportunity
Marwa Al-Aqroubi, Chairwoman of the UAE Board on Books for Young People, emphasized that the creative writing competition represents a unique opportunity for children and youth to develop their literary imagination and enhance their skills in expression and writing in Arabic. She noted that creative writing is not just a linguistic skill, but also a tool for developing critical thinking and boosting self-confidence.
Supporting young creatives
Al-Aqroubi explained that the competition aims not only to discover talents but also to refine and develop them by providing a platform for children and youth to showcase their literary creations. Some previous participants have turned their passion for writing into actual literary projects, demonstrating the positive impact of the competition.
Inspiring new experiences
The Chairwoman stressed that the "Read, Dream, Create" campaign aims to enhance the role of books in the lives of children and youth, inspiring them to explore new experiences in the world of literature. She invited all children and youth in the UAE to participate in the competition and seize this opportunity to unleash their imagination and literary skills.
Submission details
The submission period will remain open until July 31, 2025. Stories must be written in Arabic and be the original work of the author, with the option to include illustrations. Texts should be submitted in Microsoft Word format, along with the electronic form available on the "Read, Dream, Create" campaign website.
Age categories and prizes
Participants will be divided into three age categories: 6 to 9 years, 10 to 12 years, and 13 to 18 years. Each category winner will receive a cash prize of 3,000 AED, along with a collection of valuable books and a certificate of appreciation. Winning stories will also be published on the campaign's website.
Impact of the competition
Since its inception, the competition has successfully motivated hundreds of children and youth to develop their writing and language skills, encouraging them to continue reading and engaging in literary creativity, paving the way for some young creators to enter the publishing world and turn their texts into printed editions.

ACC hosts "Al-Adiyat... Out of the Frame" exhibition
Ali Al-Mimar: A life devoted to Arabian horses Ali Al-Mimar, a graduate of the Institute of Fine Arts in Baghdad (1985) and a student of the late artist Faiq Hassan, has spent nearly four decades capturing the essence of the Arabian horse. His focus on this noble creature stems from its deep-rooted symbolism in Arab and Islamic heritage—representing pride, dignity, strength, and speed. Al-Mimar has held several solo exhibitions across the Arab world and participated in numerous artistic festivals. Paintings reflect realism, symbolism, and emotion The exhibition featured around twenty paintings in various sizes, depicting horses in dynamic and serene settings—grazing, running, or interacting in harmony with their environment. Some works leaned toward abstraction, emphasising traits like strength and freedom, such as a horse's head crowned with a soaring falcon or wild horses captured in moments of unrestrained energy. Critical reception and artistic analysis In a post-exhibition discussion, Dr Omar Abdel Aziz praised Al-Mimar's work for blending classical European techniques with the Arab world's most celebrated cultural symbol—the Arabian horse. He emphasised the animal's embodiment of both aesthetic beauty and emotional depth, portraying a duality of motion and stillness. According to Dr Aziz, the artist's compositions allow for varied interpretations, offering viewers multiple layers of meaning. The artist's perspective on his work Al-Mimar shared his creative philosophy, explaining that his artworks strive to go beyond surface beauty. 'My paintings are parts of human stories set in dramatic or still atmospheres,' he said. 'They carry emotions, myth, and magical realism—all orbiting around humanity as the central theme.' He added that the themes of pride, pain, and the metaphor of 'silent neighing' are ever-present in his works, which aim to express freedom and introspection through color and technique. The exhibition affirmed Ali Al-Mimar's status as one of the most significant contemporary artists specialising in the depiction of Arabian horses.

"Hope Remains": UAE aid to Gaza spotlighted in global film
Real stories of aid and resilience "Hope Remains" tells the real-life stories of individuals who have directly benefited from UAE aid, reflecting thousands of similar experiences. Through these stories, the documentary illustrates the UAE's long-standing and heartfelt support for the Palestinian people. Global recognition on discovery channel The film premiered on the Discovery Channel, showcasing international recognition of the UAE's humanitarian leadership. It emphasises the depth of the UAE's assistance, which, as of November 2023, accounted for 42% of total humanitarian aid to Gaza—equivalent to $828 million. Humanitarian values and national commitment The documentary reveals the values of generosity, solidarity, and fraternity that define the UAE's approach to aid. It includes personal testimonies from beneficiaries and insights from frontline aid workers, showing how Emirati initiatives have improved lives physically and emotionally.
