Actor Rishab Shetty escapes unhurt as boat capsizes during Kantara-1 shoot
A boat carrying actor Rishab Shetty and around 30 crew members capsized during the shoot of 'Kantara: Chapter 1' at the Mani reservoir in Karnataka's Shivamogga district, reported news agency PTI. The incident occurred in the shallow waters of Melina Koppa in the Masti Katte region, narrowly averting what could have been a major tragedy. All members onboard, including actor-director Shetty, escaped unhurt, the police said. However, filming equipment, including cameras, is believed to have been damaged or lost. The exact value of the loss is still being assessed, according to Thirthahalli police, who confirmed an investigation is underway. This incident comes just days after the death of actor-mimicry artist Kalabhavan Niju, 43, who suffered a heart attack in Bengaluru while shooting for the same film. According to a report by OnManorama, Niju complained of chest pain at the homestay arranged for artists and was rushed to hospital, where he was declared dead. The Kerala-based actor had reportedly joined the film after an audition and was last seen in the Malayalam film 'Marco'. His death marks the third fatality linked to 'Kantara: Chapter 1' in the past month. In May, Kannada comedian Rakesh Poojary, 33, died of a cardiac arrest while attending a wedding. Around the same time, a 32-year-old junior artiste from Kerala, MF Kapil, drowned in the Souparnika river after being caught in a cross current. The Hombale Films production has endured a series of misfortunes since filming began. Last November, a minibus carrying 20 junior artistes met with an accident in Mudoor; though all escaped unhurt, it raised alarms over on-set safety. Earlier, a costly set constructed for the film was destroyed by heavy rains, further delaying the shoot. Kantara: Chapter 1 is a prequel to Shetty's critically acclaimed 2022 film Kantara. The new instalment is scheduled for release on 2 October 2025, with Rishab Shetty once again taking the lead role.

BREAKING: Rishab Shetty and Kantara Chapter 1 crew narrowly escape as their boat topples inside Mani reservoir
Rishab Shetty 's forthcoming project, the prequel to his award-winning film, Kantara Chapter 1, has been in the headlines frequently due to one or another accident that keeps taking place on the sets. Yet again, the shooting of the film came to a standstill after the actor himself, along with 30 other crew members, narrowly escaped an accident inside the Mani reservoir in Karnataka. Rishab Shetty narrowly escapes as their boat topples during Kantara Chapter 1 shoot According to an NDTV report, a boat carrying Rishab Shetty along with 30 other crew members of Kantara Chapter 1 has apparently capsized and toppled over in the shallow area of the Mani reservoir. The cause of the accident is currently uncertain; however, all the people on board the boat have escaped narrowly but unhurt, including Rishab himself. However, the mishap resulted in the loss of the filming equipment, including essential cameras, which are now lost to water. Police investigation was issued after a boat mishap on Kantara Chapter 1 sets Soon after the incident, the nearest Thirthahalli police were informed of the situation, and they visited the site to assess the damage caused swiftly. An investigation is underway, as it is yet to be seen how much damage the mishap has caused. A PTI report quoted a senior crew member from the sets of Kantara Chapter 1, who claimed that everybody panicked after the boat capsized in the middle of the reservoir. However, since the level of the water was relatively shallow, everybody was able to make it out quickly and reach the shore without any injury. Kantara Chapter 1 makers dismissed postponement rumors For a considerable period, rumours had surfaced about the film being postponed from its pre-scheduled October 2 release. The speculations kept on getting fuelled more and more since there had been no new update issued by the makers. However, on several occasions later on, the makers did reconfirm that the film was on time and there was no delay from its scheduled theatrical release date.

Boat capsizes during ‘Kantara: Chapter 1' shoot, Rishab Shetty and crew members escape unhurt
A boat capsized in a reservoir during the shooting of Kannada film Kantara: Chapter 1, the prequel to 2022's Kantara, but actor-director Rishab Shetty and 30 crew members escaped unhurt, averting a major mishap, police sources said. The incident allegedly occurred during the filming in the Mani reservoir in the Masti Katte region of Shivamogga district, they added. The accident occurred in a shallow zone of the reservoir, near an area locally known as Melina Koppa, which helped avert a possible tragedy. However, cameras and other filming equipment are believed to have been lost to the water. The losses are yet to be assessed. According to the Thirthahalli police, who visited the spot, people onboard escaped unhurt. Police are investigating. Theatre artist Ramadas Poojary told PTI that making a movie on the spirits of Dakshina Kannada is always risky, as the spirits (Bhootas-Daivas) do not like the commercialisation of any activity connected to them. However, Rishab Shetty, who reveres the spirits, has conducted elaborate poojas to them and was given permission to make the film, says Poojary. A senior crew member who spoke to PTI on the condition of anonymity said some of the crew members panicked when the boat overturned, but since it was in the shallow waters, all of them waded through to safety. "It shows that the spirits have blessed us in some way," the crew member said. This incident marks yet another setback for Kantara: Chapter 1, which is grappling with a series of unfortunate events. In the past month alone, the production team has lost three artists to unrelated incidents, adding to the challenges faced by the film's crew.
