Lt Gen Rajiv Ghai has been elevated to the post of Deputy Chief of Army Staff (Strategy), a role under which all operational verticals of the Indian Army report to the Deputy Chief of Army Staff (Security), news agency ANI reported. He will also continue to serve as the Director General of Military Operations (DGMO). Last week, Lt Gen Ghai, a key figure in military briefings on Operation Sindoor, was awarded the Uttam Yudh Seva Medal (UYSM) by President Droupadi Murmu. The operation targeted nine terror sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. At a press conference on May 11, Lt Gen Ghai revealed that his Pakistani counterpart had proposed a ceasefire during an interaction on May 10, which led to both sides agreeing to halt hostilities. Clarifying media reports, the Indian Army later stated that the ceasefire agreed upon in the DGMO talks on May 12 has no expiry date. 'No DGMO talks are scheduled today. As far as the continuation of a break in hostilities... There is no expiry date to it,' the Army said. (This is a developing story. Please check back for updates)

Taiwan wants to buy India's D4 anti-drone system? Taiwanese official calls reports ‘unconfirmed'

In a statement to Firstpost, Taipei Economic and Cultural Center has clarified that the island nation has not released any official statement confirming its interest in India's D4 anti-drone system read more Last week, several media outlets reported that Taiwan has shown interest in purchasing India's state-of-the-art D4 anti-drone system, developed by the Defence Research and Developed Organisation (DRDO) and manufactured by Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL). The reports suggested that Taiwan's interest in the D4 system grew following its success in the Operation Sindoor where it jammed and neutralised Pakistani drones, including Turkish-supplied Bayraktar TB2 drones. Clarification from Taiwan However, the Taipei Economic and Cultural Center (TECC) in India has now clarified that the country's Ministry of National Defense has not released any official statement corroborating the same. The TECC in a statement to Firstpost stated that the Taiwanese government has not released any statement confirming any such interest. 'While these news reports have circulated, there has been no official corroboration from Taipei. Officials in Taiwan have not publicly commented on any potential defense acquisitions from India, including the D4 anti-drone system,' said Col. Huang Ming Chieh of TECC. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD The statement also added that details regarding D4 anti-drone system's operational deployment and specific successes were not confirmed by the government of India and were only reported by media outlets. 'Details regarding its operational deployment and specific successes, including those attributed to 'Operation Sindoor,' are based on media reporting and have not been officially detailed by the Indian government,' it added. While the TECC didn't reject the reports in Indian media, it also refused to confirm them. 'Therefore, based on the current information available from official Taiwanese channels, the reports of an impending purchase of the Indian D4 anti-drone system by Taiwan remain unconfirmed. The TECC's statement underscores the lack of any official communication or planning regarding such a defense procurement,' said Huang in the statement. Significance of India-Taiwan defence ties A successful agreement with Taiwan could foster enhanced defence collaboration, possibly involving joint development of cutting-edge counter-drone systems. Moreover, amid China's assertive actions in the Indo-Pacific, India's strategic engagement with Taiwan could act as a vital counterbalance, transforming the region's security landscape.

Taking a swipe at Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi , BJP President and Union Minister JP Nadda on Monday said that he has been 'irresponsible'. "Rahul Gandhi playing role of irresponsible opposition, may God give him good sense," Nadda said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like You Might Want To Buy Baking Soda In Bulk After Reading This Read More Undo Nadda further said that it is very difficult to understand the Congress-led Opposition's objective. 'See, I look at it this way, may God give them true wisdom, because it's very difficult to understand their objective. When they attend an all-party meeting, they say they stand with the country. But when they step outside, they start raising questions, questions that are completely baseless. That's why I can only say they are playing the role of an irresponsible opposition,' he said. The Modi government completed 11 years today and also marked one year of its third term. Live Events The BJP leader went on to list the achievements of their government under PM Modi's leadership including that of abolishing Triple Talaq, enactment of the New Waqf Act, Citizenship Amendment Act , Demonetisation, and 33 per cent Women Reservation. "Work has been done for our tribal and OBC brothers. Scholarships and policies have been announced for them. This has been a women-led government that has also worked in the health sector. For instance, maternity leave was extended from 12 to 26 weeks with full pay, and financial support was provided to them (pregnant women). During the Chandrayaan mission, we saw the highest participation of women scientists. The Lakhpati Didi was another initiative (for women). All of this has been achieved over the past 11 years," he said. Nadda added, "In the last 11 years, we jumped to the fifth position from the 10th position in the world's economies. The new data from the IMF will bring us to the fourth position. We have been the fastest economy in the we talk about Operation Ganga, PM Modi proactively brought back the Indian citizens from Ukraine. Not only Indians but people from other countries also came out of Ukraine showing our flags." The Union government has also released a comprehensive, 14 chapter e-book detailing achievements across various sectors over the past decade. These 11 years, the book said, have been dedicated to bringing about development that is inclusive, progressive, and sustainable. "The government under Prime Minister Modi has been steadfast in its commitment to creating equity and opportunity for all citizens," it added. "PM Modi has brought the politics of development - Vikasvaad - into the mainstream, making it the focal point around which political discourse and policy action now revolve," it reads. Since assuming office in 2014, PM Modi has remained firm in his resolve to keep 'India First' in every policy formulation and action, the BJP said in the book. It added that the resolve is evident in the government's handling of both external and internal security, economic management, empowerment schemes for marginalised groups, efforts at cultural conservation and so on. It emphasised that in the last decade or so there has been a paradigm shift in public service delivery and the implementation of government schemes using the JAM Trinity - Jan Dhan, Aadhaar, and Mobile. The book also had a mention of India's recent Operation Sindoor, described as a demonstration of a new India--resolute, swift, and sovereign in action. "India's assertion on the global stage has also undergone a remarkable evolution. The success of Operation Sindoor demonstrated a new India--resolute, swift, and sovereign in action."
