Qatar delivers 6,200 tonnes of fuel to Lebanese Army
DOHA: The State of Qatar, through Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD), has delivered the third and final shipment of fuel for 2025 to the sisterly Republic of Lebanon, as part of its unwavering commitment to supporting Lebanon.
QFFD said in a statement Sunday that the shipment, comprising 6,200 tonnes of fuel, had arrived at the port of Tripoli. The shipment aims to enhance the operational capabilities of the Lebanese Army and contribute to supporting the country's security and stability, QFFD added.
This effort embodies Qatar's unwavering solidarity with the brotherly Lebanese people, affirming its commitment to supporting their prosperity and stability amidst these difficult circumstances.

Lebanese tourism minister hails Qatar's support
BEIRUT: Lebanon's Minister of Tourism HE Laura Lahoud has hailed the State of Qatar's continuous support for her country and lauded the deep-rooted Lebanese-Qatari relations. In a statement to Qatar News Agency (QNA), she emphasized that one of the Lebanese government's top priorities is the return of Arab tourists to Lebanon and its commitment to strengthening strong relations with Arab and GCC states. She noted the special ties between the Lebanese Republic and the State of Qatar and called on Qatari citizens to visit Lebanon. The minister said that the Lebanese government is taking all necessary steps to restore confidence in Lebanon, both domestically and internationally, under a new presidential term and a new government focused on strengthening the rule of law and constitutional institutions. She also affirmed Lebanon's decision to strengthen and extend the state's authority and that of the Lebanese army over the entire Lebanese territory, in order to maintain security and ensure the safety of citizens, residents, and tourists. Lahoud pointed out that her country's government is undertaking significant reform measures to regain trust after the successive crises the country has endured. It has also launched numerous initiatives to promote tourism, most notably enhancing airport security measures and monitoring prices to attract visitors, she added. She explained that the Ministry of Tourism's plan emphasizes the importance of year-round tourism in Lebanonâ€'not just during the summer seasonâ€'through collaboration with the private sector, especially given Lebanon's rich tourism assets, including natural beauty, as well as medical, cultural, and eco-tourism. Lebanon is preparing to host a series of cultural and artistic festivals and events during the upcoming summer season, which will enhance the country's appeal as a preferred tourist destination and encourage more visitors to come, she added. The Lebanese Minister of Tourism expressed her optimism for a promising summer season in Lebanon, with expectations of a significant increase in the number of Arab and international tourists eager to experience the country's diverse tourism offerings.

Lebanon's local elections provide litmus test for weakened Hezbollah
Lebanese President Joseph Aoun on Saturday called on his compatriots to vote en masse in local elections seen as an important litmus test for the Iran-backed Hezbollah movement and its allies. The elections, which have been taking place since the beginning of May, entered their final phase on Saturday in southern Lebanon, where Hezbollah traditionally has its strongholds. The area has been a major battlefield between Hezbollah and Israel since the eruption of the Gaza war in October 2023. Voting took place in the other regions of the country on previous weekends. Aoun on Saturday toured parts of southern Lebanon, casting his vote in his hometown of al-Aaishiyah. 'I call on all people to vote in large numbers not only because it is a democratic right, but also because these elections are developmental, not political,' he said. 'Votes must be for those who represent [locals] in the development of the cities and villages concerned, and for those who appreciate the people's sacrifices,' Aoun added, according to Lebanon's state National News Agency (NNA). The Lebanese government is under pressure to implement a fragile ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah that has been in effect since the end of November, amid increasing calls for the disarmament of the militia. Around 500,000 Lebanese are eligible to participate in Saturday's round of voting, which is being held amid tight security, according to local media. Voter turnout at 4pm (1300 GMT) stood at 27% in the South Governorate, and at 23.6% in the neighbouring Nabatieh Governorate, the Lebanese media outlet LBC reported, citing figures from the Lebanese Interior Ministry. The election was originally supposed to take place in 2022. However, due to the economic crisis, the massive port explosion in the capital Beirut and administrative issues, it was repeatedly delayed. Voter turnout and the outcome of the elections in the predominantly Shiite regions of southern Lebanon could provide an insight into Hezbollah's remaining support among the population and its ability to mobilize voters. For a long time, Hezbollah operated - with the approval of its supporters in the country and Iran's backing - like a state within a state. In addition to its military wing, it also acts as a political party within Lebanon. Since the war with Israel, Hezbollah is considered to have been significantly weakened. Despite the ceasefire, Israel and Hezbollah accuse each other of violations. GCC nations, US pursuing regional de-escalation: Saudi Crown Prince
Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Saudi Arabia HRH Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud has emphasized that achieving the Sustainable Development Goals requires a stabilized and safe environment, given the challenges besetting the region. In his inaugural remarks before the GCC-US Summit, on Wednesday in Riyadh and which he co-chaired with US President Donald Trump, the Saudi Crown Prince affirmed that the Gulf nations, collectively and in collaboration with the United States of America, are committed to de-escalating tensions in the region, ending the war in Gaza, and finding an enduring and comprehensive solution for the Palestinian cause based on the Arab Peace Initiative and the relevant international resolutions. He added that their move is intended to achieve security and peace for the peoples of the region, confirming that they are committed to supporting everything that would end crises and cease conflict through peaceful means. The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia continues to encourage dialogue among the Yemeni parties to reach a comprehensive political solution in Yemen, along with the efforts to end the crisis in Sudan through the Jeddah Platform, which is jointly sponsored by Saudi Arabia and the United States, with the objective of reaching a full ceasefire in Sudan, the Saudi Crown Prince underlined. He stressed the importance of respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Syrian Arab Republic and supporting the efforts undertaken by the Syrian government to achieve security and stability. The Saudi Crown Prince reaffirmed the support spearheaded by the Lebanese President and the Lebanese government for the state institutions' reform efforts, to ensure the exclusive authority of the state over the use of force, and to safeguard Lebanon's sovereignty and territorial integrity. He welcomed the ceasefire deal between Pakistan and India and hoped that it would contribute to containing the escalation and restoring calm between the two countries. (QNA)
