Marseille's Greenwood Eyes UCL Qualification After 21-Goal Season Sparks Transfer Buzz
Last Updated:
Mason Greenwood looks to continue with Marseille for the next season and hopes to secure Champions League football amidst transfer rumours.
Mason Greenwood seems to have found a new home with Marseille and is in form, as he finished as the joint top scorer in Ligue 1 after scoring a total of 21 goals. He shares the golden boot with Paris Saint-Germain's Ousmane Dembele. But questions remain regarding his future with his current club and the possibilities of a bigger club poaching the forward remains likely.
In an unexpected appearance during a press conference, Greenwood clarified that he wants to stay with the club with ambitions of making a big impact in the European competitions.

'I hope to be here next year for the Champions League. All the other players tell me that the stadium is something special. I think it's been a very positive season, and we've reached our objective," Greenwood was quoted by the Manchester Evening News as saying.
He added, 'I feel at home here. I recently had a baby here with my girlfriend. Not a lot of people get to experience that kind of thing here, and with all my teammates and coaches, I would like to thank them all."
The Ukrainian manager maintained his stance regarding his respect for Greenwood but was openly critical of him and expects a lot more from him if he is expected to reach the top levels.
De Zerbi earlier said, 'No one can have more respect for him than I do. But that doesn't change anything: I expect more from him. He has to do more, because what he is currently showing is not enough."
He added, 'If he wants to achieve his ambition of becoming a champion, he has to be more consistent, sacrifice more and be more determined."
The report by Manchester Evening News suggests that Greenwood is 'yearning' for a move back to the Premier League, with two unnamed clubs open to making the move. But his reception in England could be a negative one after finding himself out of Manchester United's squad during allegations regarding attempted rape and sexual assault being levelled against him.

FIFA World Cup 2026 qualifiers: Donnarumma says Italy's form unacceptable after drubbing by Norway
Italy goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma offered no excuses for his side's poor showing in their 3-0 defeat at Norway in the World Cup qualifiers on Friday, saying their form was not acceptable and the fans deserve better. Playing the first match of their qualifying campaign, Italy was stunned after a ruthless first-half performance by Norway, which put three past the visitor thanks to Alexander Sorloth, Antonio Nusa and Erling Haaland. Italy sits fourth in Group I, while Norway leads the group with nine points from three matches. Estonia, Moldova and Israel are also in Group I. 'I have no explanation at the moment. You just have to go inside and realise the performance tonight. Our fans don't deserve this,' Donnarumma told Italian TV channel Rai Sport. 'We all have to come out of these games together, we need to examine our conscience.' The four-times World Cup winner has not qualified for the global showpiece event since 2014. Italy manager Luciano Spalletti said his team was going through a difficult patch and that he would speak with the Italian Football Federation about the situation. We must be more united than before,' said Donnarumma, who won the Champions League, Ligue 1, French Cup and French Super Cup titles with Paris St Germain in the recently concluded season. Italy next hosts fifth-placed Moldova on Monday.
