Morocco dominated the post-match honours after winning their maiden TotalEnergies CAF U-17 Africa Cup of Nations title, with several players and coach Nabil Baha recognised for their standout performances in the tournament held on home soil.
Midfield maestro Abdellah Ouazane, who plays for Dutch side Ajax Amsterdam, was named Player of the Tournament.
The 16-year-old was instrumental in Morocco's march to the final, dictating play with composure, vision, and tactical intelligence. His ability to control tempo and deliver decisive moments in the midfield earned plaudits from the Technical Study Group.
Another standout performer was goalkeeper Chouaib Bellaarouch, who claimed both the Best Goalkeeper of the Tournament award and the Man of the Match title for the final.
The Académie Mohammed VI de Football shot-stopper was a model of consistency throughout the campaign, conceding just one goal in the entire tournament.
His heroics in the final included two penalty saves in the shootout against Mali that sealed Morocco's 4-2 win after a goalless draw.
The architect of Morocco's success, Nabil Baha, was honoured as Best Coach. The former international led his side with a disciplined defensive strategy and a clear identity of play, guiding the Atlas Cubs to their first-ever continental title. Under Baha, Morocco conceded only once and went unbeaten across the tournament.
Despite losing in the final, Mali were awarded the Fair Play Award for their sportsmanship and conduct throughout the competition.
Coach Adama Diefla Diallo's side displayed relentless energy and flair, reflecting the strong tradition of Malian youth football.
The tournament showcased the best of African youth football, and Morocco's clean sweep of individual awards was a fitting end to a campaign marked by resilience, structure, and tactical maturity. Leverkusen sign Dutch goalkeeper Flekken from Brentford

June 3 (Reuters) - Bayer Leverkusen have signed Dutch goalkeeper Mark Flekken from Premier League Brentford on a three-year contract, the Bundesliga club said on Tuesday. The 31-year-old will return to Germany after two seasons at Brentford, where he made 74 appearances in the Premier League. "Mark Flekken possesses a wide range of skills that a goalkeeper in modern top-flight football must possess," Leverkusen Sporting Director Simon Rolfes said. "Mark exudes an impressive physical presence; from a footballing perspective, he has certainly been one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League over the past two years." Flekken, who has played eight times for the Netherlands, has spent the majority of his career in Germany with clubs including Freiburg and Duisburg. Leverkusen appointed former Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag as their head coach in May, replacing Xabi Alonso who left to join Real Madrid.

Liverpool sign Frimpong from Leverkusen

(Reuters) - Premier League champions Liverpool have signed defender Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen on a long-term contract, both clubs announced on Friday. Financial details were not disclosed by either club, but British media reported that Liverpool triggered a 35 million euros ($39.73 million) release clause for the Dutch international, whose deal with Leverkusen was valid until 2028. The transfer was announced hours after Trent Alexander-Arnold joined Real Madrid from Liverpool on a six-year deal, with Frimpong set to replace the England defender as he becomes manager Arne Slot's first signing after they won the Premier League title. "It went quite easy," the 24-year-old told the club website. "Liverpool came and said they had interest, and obviously for me it was a no-brainer. "For me, it was like, 'Whatever you guys do, just get this done'." Frimpong, who will officially join on June 1, signed a five-year contract, media reports said. The right back, who can also play as a winger, played a key role in the Leverkusen side that won the German domestic double in 2023-24, chipping in with 14 goals and 12 assists across all competitions. Frimpong also recorded 12 assists this season, adding five goals, from 48 appearances in all competitions for the Bundesliga runners-up. A product of Manchester City's academy, Frimpong joined Leverkusen in 2021 from Scottish side Celtic. He has represented the Netherlands on 12 occasions, scoring one goal, since making his debut with the senior squad in October 2023 in a Euro 2024 qualifier against France. "Liverpool fans, I'm going to give my all, my energy, my work-rate and hopefully we can win together, we celebrate together, get everything together," Frimpong added. "I'm just excited to be here. Thank you guys for accepting me and I won't let you guys down and I'll give you the energy that you guys want."

Liverpool sign Dutch right-back Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen - World

Liverpool quickly secured a replacement for the departing Trent Alexander-Arnold by signing Netherlands right-back Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen on Friday. Frimpong returns to England on what Liverpool called a 'long-term contract' six years after leaving Manchester City, which he joined at age 9. He spent nine years there before joining Celtic without ever playing in the Premier League. 'It went quite easy. Liverpool came and said they had interest, and obviously for me it was a no-brainer," Frimpong said in a Liverpool statement. Frimpong said he told his agents: 'Whatever you guys do, just get this done.' The 24-year-old Frimpong has blossomed after arriving in 2021 at Leverkusen, where he has been playing as an attacking wing back under Xabi Alonso. He was one of the German team's star players in its unbeaten Bundesliga campaign in the 2023-24 season. We have agreed the signing of Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen 🙌🔴 — Liverpool FC (@LFC) May 30, 2025 Frimpong is a like-for-like replacement for Alexander-Arnold, who announced on May 5 he was leaving Liverpool after a 20-year association. Liverpool received a fee on Friday to let Alexander-Arnold leave in time to play for Real Madrid at the Club World Cup. Frimpong will compete with Conor Bradley for the right back position and give Liverpool manager Arne Slot the option of switching to a 3-5-2. Frimpong's international opportunities with the Dutch have been limited because of competition for right wing back with Inter Milan star Denzel Dumfries. Frimpong more recently played as an out-an-out winger against Spain in the Nations League playoffs. Born in Amsterdam, Frimpong grew up in Manchester and played for City's academy. He has said he had a hard time adapting to Celtic after leaving City in 2019 as he was farther away from family, but felt more comfortable in Germany. Frimpong's departure increases the scope of the rebuild Leverkusen and its new coach Erik ten Hag face following the departure of Xabi Alonso for Real Madrid.
