Police in Bangladesh have arrested five individuals, including the prime accused in connection to a rape of a woman at her home in Muradnagar upazila of Comilla. According to The Dhaka Tribune, the news of the arrest was confirmed by the Superintendent of Police, Nazir Ahmed Khan, on Sunday morning.
The Bangladeshi authorities noted that the incident took place on Thursday night when the accused Fazor Ali, 38, forcibly entered the house by breaking down the door and raped the woman, whose identity has been kept hidden, given the severity of the crime.

The survivor filed a case with the Muradnagar police station on Friday afternoon. By Sunday, 5 am (local time), Fazor Ali was arrested in the Sayedabad area in Dhaka. He was later brought back to Comilla for legal proceedings, The Dhaka Tribune reported.
The other four involved in the case were Md Sumon, Ramzan Ali, Md Arif, and Md Anik, who were arrested for filming the assault, which was eventually circulated online. The police told local reporters that the survivor told the authorities that she had been visiting her father's house with her children for the past 15 days.
At around 10 pm on Thursday, Fazor appeared at the house and demanded that she open the door. When she refused, he broke in and raped her. The neighbour told police that they had heard loud noises from the house that night and rushed over with others to find that the door was broken.
When they realised that the woman had been assaulted, they beat Fazor Ali and sent him to a hospital. However, Fazor managed to escape later. Superintendent Nazir Ahmed Khan said that the police conducted overnight raids in the area and arrested four individuals involved in recording and sharing the video. Fazor Ali was eventually tracked down early Sunday in Dhaka. 'All five are in custody, and further legal steps are underway,' the police official averred.

Kendrapada: In a crackdown on illegal immigration, police detained 18 people who are suspected to be Bangladeshi nationals residing in India without valid documents. The operation, conducted on Sunday, was based on intelligence reports indicating presence of illegal immigrants in the area. The arrests were made from places like Rajendranarayanpur and Rangani villages under Talachua marine police station limits and Kereragada and Gopalpur villages under Rajnagar police station jurisdiction. According Talachua marine police station IIC Bimal Kumar Mallick, the detainees were unable to produce valid citizenship documents during interrogation. "We suspect they must have entered India illegally through unauthorised riverine routes and were residing in coastal pockets of the district without valid documents," said Naresh Sahoo, IIC of Rajnagar police station. The suspected Bangladeshi nationals are currently held at a detention centre in Kendrapada. In March, chief minister Mohan Charan Majhi had revealed that 3,738 Bangladeshi infiltrators had been identified across the state, with Kendrapada accounting for the highest number of 1,649. The issue of illegal immigration has been a long-standing concern in the region, with the state govt previously issuing "Quit India" notices to suspected illegal immigrants in 2005.

International drug cartel busted, 60 kg heroin seized from Barmer
Chandigarh: In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, Amritsar Commissionerate Police, with the support of Border Security Force (BSF) and Rajasthan Police, has busted a major international drug cartel being operated by Pakistan-based smuggler Tanveer Shah and Canada-based handler Joban Kaler, said Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav here on Monday. A huge consignment of 60.302 kg of heroin was recovered from near the International Border in Barmer in Rajasthan. The operation has led to the arrest of at least nine people, including smugglers, traffickers and hawala operators from Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan and Jammu and Kashmir, said the DGP. Those arrested have been identified as Gagandeep Singh (23), Jashanpreet Singh (20), Gursahib Singh (25), Rajeev Panjgotra (29), Somnath (62), Prashotam Singh (50), Kulwinder Singh (24), Rajinder Kaur (42) and one hawala operator. DGP Yadav said preliminary investigations have revealed the drug cartel was being operated by Pakistan-based smuggler Tanveer Shah and Canada-based smuggler Joban Kaler with the help of local kingpin Gursahib Singh, who was already lodged in Goindwal Sahib Jail, from where he was running the network. His phone has been recovered by jail authorities, and his production warrant was obtained for a probe into Canada-Pakistan linkages, the DGP said. Sharing more details, Commissioner of Police (Amritsar) Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said the operation began after Gursahib Singh was arrested last month with one kg of heroin from Chheharta. Despite being in jail, accused Gursahib operated through his nephew Jashanpreet Singh and associate Gagandeep Singh, who were arrested with 102 gm heroin. Their interrogation led to the huge 60 kg heroin consignment in Barmer, he said. He said during the investigation, the hawala network used for routing drug money has also been exposed with the arrest of a hawala operator. The Commissioner of Police said the probe has also revealed that drugs were being smuggled from across the Indo-Pak border and routed through Rajasthan to Punjab, with further local distribution channels. Further working on backward linkages, five more accused associated with Tanveer Shah of Pakistan were also identified, and raids are being conducted to nab them, he said.

When the police started investigating, they found that she was at Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi. In such a situation, the police sought cooperation from the embassy and the Delhi Police to rescue her. She was ready to board the plane." "With the help of immigration, the embassy and the Delhi Police, she was found," he added. The District Superintendent of Police said that after receiving the information, the Churu police did not have time to reach Delhi. If the operation had been delayed by half an hour, she would have left for the Gulf. Police officer, Gaurav Khidiya, said that the accused, Mohammad Islam, is a resident of Mulat, Taranagar. He is married and lives in Oman. He has been there for 10 years, and his wife left him. Islam befriended the woman on social media eight months ago. The police are now preparing to bring the accused from Oman.
