Taiwanese singer Christine Fan sorry she gave a bad performance on Chinese singing show: 'I really lost control'
After keeping a relatively low profile following her husband Blackie Chen's #MeToo scandal in 2023, Taiwanese singer Christine Fan made a surprising return to the spotlight by appearing on the Chinese singing show, Singer 2025 on Jun 6.
The 49-year-old joined the show after the elimination of singer Terry Lin.
Dressed in a glittery gold gown, Fan performed her own hit The First Dream, immediately sounding shaky and pitchy.
In fact, sharp-eyed netizens noticed that she looked visibly affected by how she sounded during the performance.
Following the performance, a visibly emotional Fan was seen crying backstage as a host was spotted comforting her as she tearfully apologised saying, 'I'm sorry. I really lost control."
Unsurprisingly, Fan was eliminated from the show that same night. While her studio audience score wasn't the lowest, the lack of online support sealed her fate as Singer 2025 tallies votes from both in-person audiences and internet users.
Clips of her pitchy singing quickly went viral, appearing on Chinese microblogging platform Weibo's hot search list.
Later that night, Fan posted a video on Weibo, saying: 'It's my first time participating on such a programme and I would be lying if I said I wasn't nervous'.
She then thanked everyone for listening to her sing and promised that she will continue to work hard despite the setback.
Fan also posted pictures of her performance on Weibo on Jun 7.
"I am so lucky to be on Singer 2025. I am really grateful and satisfied," she said, adding that she had not participated in a TV show like this for many years.
"Although I did not perform well, I am very disappointed with myself. I feel that I have failed everyone's expectations. I feel really sorry I let everyone down."
She added: "But I think that life does not need to shine every day, as long as you firmly move forward towards your original dream and continue to walk on the shining road, that's enough!"
Fan also thanked the team behind Singer 2025, as well as her colleagues, friends and family whom she said cheered her up and took care of her on and off the stage.

Actor Chapman To celebrates 20 years of marriage to Kristal Tin with heartfelt post
HONG KONG: As reported by The Star , Hong Kong-born Taiwanese actor Chapman To and former TVB star Kristal Tin recently celebrated their 20th wedding anniversary in a small party with good friends. Photo: Instagram/Kristal Tin Even fellow actor Anthony Wong made the journey all the way to Taiwan just to celebrate with the happy couple. Famous faces On June 7, To, 53, gave everyone a peek into the past, sharing an old photo from his wedding to Tin, 47. The picture showed him surrounded by some pretty famous faces, including Andy Lau, Wong Jing, and Shawn Yue, who were all reportedly his groomsmen. They dated for a good six years before To and Tin said 'I do' in June of 2005. 'It's been two decades, and while some of us are still here, others have gone their separate ways. I truly wish everyone finds their happiness. For me, that means truly living in the now – letting go of what's happened and not stressing about what's next,' said To in a Facebook post. Still in touch with Anthony Wong To shared a photo on his Instagram story with Anthony Wong, mentioning that out of all his groomsmen, the 63-year-old is the only one he's still in touch with after all this time. The actor concluded the festivities by sharing a brief video of Tin speaking about how he had changed her life. Meanwhile, over on Instagram, Tin opened up about how her own understanding of what 'tolerance' means has really evolved through the years. The actress from Brother's Keeper (2012) opened up, admitting she once had a pretty strong negative reaction to the whole idea of 'tolerating' things in a marriage. She actually thought, 'If we were so head-over-heels in love to start with, why on earth would we suddenly need to just 'put up with' things once we're married?' Embracing one's imperfections Tin revealed that her perspective has now changed, and she now sees tolerance as gently embracing one's imperfections rather than putting up with them. Judge in Harvey Weinstein trial declares mistrial on rape charge following sex abuse conviction
Harvey Weinstein's case continues with his retrial in New York, June 11, 2025 Steven Hirsch/Pool via REUTERS The judge overseeing Harvey Weinstein's criminal trial in Manhattan on Thursday declared a mistrial on a rape charge against the former Hollywood movie mogul, after one of the jurors refused to continue deliberations. The mistrial came a day after the jury convicted Weinstein on a separate sex abuse charge. It also acquitted him on a different sex abuse charge. Weinstein, once one of the most powerful figures in Hollywood, faced a retrial that began on April 23 after a New York state appeals court last year overturned his 2020 conviction. He was accused by prosecutors in this case of raping an aspiring actress and assaulting two other women. Weinstein, 73, pleaded not guilty and has denied assaulting anyone or having non-consensual sex. The jury found Weinstein guilty on one of the three counts he faced, which stemmed from his alleged assault of former production assistant Miriam Haley in 2006. The jury found Weinstein not guilty of a charge stemming from his alleged assault of Kaja Sokola in 2002 when she was a 16-year-old aspiring actress. Supreme Court Justice Curtis Farber declared a mistrial after the judge said the jury could not reach a verdict on a third count, which charged him with raping aspiring actress Jessica Mann in 2013. Weinstein faces up to 25 years in prison when he is sentenced. He has separately been sentenced to 16 years in prison following a rape conviction in California. In a startling development on Wednesday, the jury foreperson told Farber that other members of the panel were shouting at him and threatening him for refusing to change his vote on the rape count. Farber sent jurors home for the day to give them time to cool down and instructed the foreperson to arrive in court separately on Thursday. In closing arguments on June 3, the prosecution told the 12 jurors that the evidence showed how Weinstein used his power and influence to trap and abuse women. The defense countered that the accusers lied on the witness stand out of spite after their consensual sexual encounters with the Oscar-winning producer failed to result in Hollywood stardom. A jury found Weinstein guilty in February 2020 of raping Mann and sexually assaulting Haley. Sokola's allegation was not part of that case. The conviction was a milestone for the #MeToo movement, which encouraged women to come forward with allegations of sexual misconduct by powerful men. But the New York Court of Appeals, the state's highest court, threw out that conviction in April 2024. It said the trial judge erred by letting women testify that Weinstein had assaulted them, though their accusations were not the basis of the criminal charges. Though the conviction was thrown out, Weinstein, who has had a litany of health problems in recent years and attended the retrial in a wheelchair, has remained behind bars because of his California conviction. He is appealing that verdict. More than 100 women, including famous actresses, have accused Weinstein of misconduct. He co-founded the Miramax studio, whose hit movies included such Academy Award winners as "Shakespeare in Love" and "Pulp Fiction." Weinstein's own eponymous film studio filed for bankruptcy in March 2018, five months after sexual misconduct accusations against him became widely publicized.
