Two days after the Air India disaster in Ahmedabad, an audio has emerged revealing the pilots' final message to the Air Traffic Control (ATC) moments before the flight crashed into the medical college building.
Senior pilot Captain Sumit Sabharwal sent a distress call to the Ahmedabad ATC right after the plane took off. In the five-second audio, the pilot can be heard saying: 'MAYDAY… MAYDAY… MAYDAY… NO POWER… NO THRUST… GOING DOWN…"

Air India Flight AI171 took off from Ahmedabad airport at around 1:30 pm IST on June 12, heading to London Gatwick with 242 people on board: 230 passengers, 10 cabin crew members, and 2 pilots.
Only one passenger, a British national of Indian origin, survived the crash. Among those who died was former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, who was on the flight.
The plane quickly lost altitude and crashed into a hostel building, killing several medical students and local residents. Thick black smoke rose from the crash site, and a large-scale rescue operation was immediately launched.
Investigators found one of the black boxes on Thursday night. They are still searching for the second black box and the digital video recorder (DVR), which could provide key information about what caused the crash. Central agencies, including the National Investigation Agency (NIA), have visited the site.
The Ministry of Civil Aviation set up a high-level, multi-disciplinary panel to investigate the crash's cause. This panel will look into the events leading up to the crash and review the current Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and safety guidelines.

'Normal occurrence of diversion by F-35B': IAF on British jet emergency landing at Kerala airport
NEW DELHI: A day after a British F-35B fighter jet of the Royal Navy made an emergency landing at Thiruvananthapuram International Airport, the Indian Air Force (IAF) on Sunday said it is "fully aware" of it and facilitated the aircraft for flight safety reasons. The jet was operating from UK Aircraft Carrier, HMS Prince of Wales, and it was undertaking "routine flying" outside Indian ADIZ (Air Defence Identification Zone), according to the IAF. In a late night post on X, the IAF also shared a photo of the fighter jet, and said it is "providing all necessary support for the rectification and subsequent return of the aircraft". Earlier in the day, sources said the British aircraft made the emergency landing at the Kerala airport after running low on fuel. The jet landed safely at around 9.30 pm on Saturday, they said. The IAF on Sunday said it is "fully aware" of it. "A normal occurrence of diversion by F-35B. The IAF is fully aware and facilitated the aircraft for flight safety reasons. All assistance being given, and the IAF is in coordination with all agencies," an IAF spokesperson said in a brief statement.

IAF provides support for rectification and return of F-35B British Fighter
Thiruvananthapuram, Jun 15 (UNI) The Indian Air Force (IAF) is providing all necessary support for the rectification and subsequent return of the F-35B British Royal Navy Fighter Aircraft. "The Royal Navy F-35B fighter recovered off an emergency landing at Thiruvananthapuram International Airport on the night of 14 June 2025," the IAF said on 'X.' "Operating from UK Aircraft Carrier, HMS Prince of Wales, it was undertaking routine flying outside Indian ADIZ with Thiruvananthapuram earmarked as the emergency recovery airfield." "On having declared a diversion off an emergency, the F35B was detected and identified by the IAF's Integrated Air Command and Control System (IACCS) network and cleared for the recovery. The IAF is providing all necessary support for the rectification and subsequent return of the aircraft, it added. There were reports that the emergency landing was said to be for refueling purpose. Later, the fighter flight was parked at the bay awaiting permission from the Central Government for refueling. The F-35B Lightning is a stealth aircraft operating alongside the Typhoon. A multi-role machine, Lightning is capable of conducting air-to-surface, electronic warfare, intelligence gathering and air-to-air missions simultaneously.
