'Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) is currently undertaking the process of migration from Passport Seva Programme V1.0 (PSP V1.0) to Passport Seva Programme V2.0 (PSP V2.0). This is being done in a phased manner since April 2024. Meanwhile, the disruption of the Passport Seva Portal has sparked widespread frustration among applicants, many of whom took to X (formerly Twitter) to share their experiences. Users across the country, from cities such as Delhi, Bhopal and Thane, reported receiving late-night cancellation messages or, in some cases, no intimation at all prior to their scheduled appointments. Several applicants also reported arriving at their designated PSKs only to find locked doors, no staff, and no on-ground communication.'The Passport Seva Kendra pasted a notice — due to a technical issue, unable to process requests. No SMS, email or phone call regarding this was sent to applicants... Even people came to know only after reaching the Seva Kendra. "Had an appointment for my kids' passports tomorrow morning, and for the second time in two months, they've asked us to reschedule due to technical issues, @passportsevamea. We received the message at 12:00 a.m., and they expect people to just wait around... Their app isn't working either,' writes another user, @MehulKothari3.
The outage is causing some serious implications for those with urgent travel plans. Many students, professionals, and families with international commitments are facing delays, with many unsure about how and when they will be able to rebook appointments.
Notably, this is not the first time that the Passport Seva system has faced such issues. Earlier this year in April, a similar server crash on Passport Seva led to a temporary halt of passport services nationwide, causing two days of disruption.

The Regional Passport Office (RPO), Kozhikode, has bagged the Best Passport Office Award in India. K. Arunmohan, Regional Passport Officer, received the award from Union Minister of State for External Affairs Pabitra Margherita at the Annual Passport Officers' Conference organised by the Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi on Tuesday. Satheesh Kumar Kootil, Assistant Passport Officer, received the Best Granting Officer Award. A press release said the RPO Kozhikode handled 3,500 applicants daily and issued over six lakh passports and police clearance certificates last year. At present, five Passport Seva Kendras (PSKs) — Kozhikode, Vadakara, Malappuram, Kannur, and Payyanur — and two Post Office Passport Seva Kendras (POPSKs) — Kasaragod and Kalpetta — are functioning under the jurisdiction of RPO Kozhikode. It has also introduced Kerala's first mobile passport van, equipped with biometric capturing devices. Telangana Bhavan staffers assist returnees from Iran, Israel
Hyderabad: In line with the continuous monitoring efforts initiated by state government, the authorities are closely coordinating the safe return of its citizens from the conflict-hit Middle East region. The dedicated helpdesk and support team at Telangana Bhavan, New Delhi, remain actively engaged in receiving and assisting all incoming passengers. A total of 17 new arrivals have been recorded: Masshad, Iran – 5, Jordan (via Iran) – 1 and 11 persons from Israel. In addition to the 6 students who arrived on Monday, this brings the cumulative total to 23 Telangana citizens safely returned so far. All the returnees have made their onward travel arrangements to Hyderabad at their own expense. Telangana Bhavan staff are providing necessary assistance, including reception at the airport, refreshments, and coordination until the passengers board their domestic flights. The Government is maintaining close coordination with the Ministry of External Affairs and Indian Embassies to facilitate additional evacuations, particularly from Israel, where outbound flights remain disrupted due to temporary airspace closures.
