Igloo cooler recall expanded after more finger injuries reported: What to know

A recall of Igloo coolers has been expanded to include tens of thousands more because of a handle hazard that has caused fingertip injuries – including some amputations.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said in a notice dated May 8 that dozens more injuries had been reported since the original recall was announced.

What we know
The CPSC said the recall involves Igloo 90-quart Flip & Tow Rolling Coolers, which have a tow handle, and "IGLOO" is printed on the side. The coolers were sold in multiple body and lid color combinations.
The model number is located on labels affixed to the bottom of the cooler. The date of manufacture is imprinted on the bottom of the cooler in a circular pattern with an arrow pointing to the month of manufacture and the last two digits of the year of manufacture inside the circle.

The coolers were sold at Costco, Target, Academy, Dick's, and other stores nationwide and online at Amazon.com, Igloocoolers.com, and other websites between January 2019 and January 2025, according to the CPSC notice. They sold for between $80 and $140.
They were manufactured by Igloo Products Corp. in the United States.

About 130,000 additional Igloo coolers are part of the expanded recall, in addition to the over 1 million coolers that were previously recalled in February – bringing the total to nearly 1.2 million coolers in the U.S.
In addition, about 20,000 more coolers in Canada and 5,900 in Mexico are also part of the expanded recall.

Here's what you need to consider when buying your bike helmet. Price is an obvious place to start, because you might well have a budget available to spend on your bike helmet. 'Prices vary a lot,' says Mansilla. 'You'll find basic helmets starting around $30. More advanced options — those with better materials, more features, or higher safety certifications — can go up to $300 or more. 'In our case, smart helmets with integrated lighting, MIPS [Multi-directional Impact Protection System], crash alerts and other features usually fall in the $150–$230 range.' Bike helmets have to hit certain safety standards depending on where you live, and this is the first thing you should check with any helmet you're considering, especially if you're looking at cheaper helmets. Technically, any helmet can work across contexts, but one that's built for your type of riding will always perform better.' Bike helmets are getting smarter all the time, and if you have a bigger budget, you can get features that enhance your safety and ride experience. 'Our [UNIT 1's] helmets, for example, include integrated front and rear lights, turn signals, brake lights, a magnetic buckle for ease of use and crash alerts that send your location to an emergency contact if you fall,' says Mansilla. 'These tools are designed to help you avoid collisions and get help faster if one happens.' This is something to consider after you've bought your helmet — when should you think about buying another one? 'After any crash, the helmet should be replaced, even if it looks fine,' says Mansilla. 'Impact can compromise the inner structure in ways you can't see. 'Without a crash, most helmets need to be replaced every three to four years, depending on use. UV exposure, rain, sweat and general wear all break down the materials over time.'
