"Wonderful journey...": NC Chief Farooq Abdullah returns to Srinagar from Katra in Vande Bharat
Srinagar (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], June 11 (ANI): National Conference Chief Farooq Abdullah reached Srinagar on Wednesday on the Vande Bharat train after darshan at the Maa Vaishno Devi shrine and asserted that he had a 'wonderful journey.'
After returning from Srinagar, the NC Chief said, 'I had a wonderful journey. Tourists are coming. This train is a great blessing. It will increase our tourism and business... Now our people can travel to any part of the country. It's a big dream that I have seen being fulfilled in my life. We must remember the God who has given us everything and also those who gave us this train.'
Earlier in the day, Farooq Abdullah said that he had a 'good darshan' at the Mata Vaishno Devi shrine and that he prayed for prosperity and brotherhood in the region.
'I had a good darshan, and I hope that we will get what I prayed for. We want prosperity, unity, and brotherhood. We all want India to grow so that we can be part of that,' the former JK Chief Minister said.
'I am very happy with the train service that has begun. More people will come to receive the darshan of Maa Vaishno Devi, and it will help the tourism as well,' he said.
On Tuesday, the NC Chief said that the Vande Bharat trains on the USBRL route (Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla rail link) are the 'biggest gift' for the people of Jammu and Kashmir, as it connects the territory with the entire country.
Abdullah reached Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra railway station on Tuesday after travelling on board the Vande Bharat train from Nowgam (Srinagar) Railway Station.
Speaking to reporters, the NC chief said that his eyes became 'teary' after the train crossed the Chenab Bridge.
Notably, the bridge on the River Chenab, being the highest bridge in the world, is a milestone project for the Indian Railways, which was completed after several ups and downs in a difficult terrain. It connects Kashmir to Jammu and the entire country via rail.
'This is the biggest gift to connect Jammu and Kashmir with the entire country... I had tears in my eyes when I crossed the Chenab Bridge. Finally, the day has come when we can travel to the country from Kashmir by train. I want to congratulate all the workers and engineers who built this bridge...' he said.
The two Vande Bharat Express trains from Katra Railway Station, directly connecting the Jammu division with Kashmir, were flagged off by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on June 6.
The new Vande Bharat Express train will take just about three hours to travel between Katra and Srinagar, reducing the existing travel time by two to three hours. These trains have been specially designed to operate in the cold climatic conditions of the Kashmir Valley.
The train will run through the Anji Khad Bridge, which is India's first cable-stayed railway bridge, and the Chenab Bridge, which is the highest railway arch bridge in the world.
The architectural marvel Chenab Rail Bridge, situated 359 metres above the river, is the world's highest railway arch bridge. It is a 1,315-metre-long steel arch bridge engineered to withstand seismic and wind conditions.
The USBRL project is 272 kilometres long, constructed worth around Rs 43,780 crore, includes 36 tunnels (spanning 119 km) and 943 bridges.
The project establishes all-weather, seamless rail connectivity between the Kashmir Valley and the rest of the country, aiming to transform regional mobility and drive socio-economic integration. (ANI)

NC's Surinder Choudhary accuses L-G Manoj Sinha of ‘running proxy govt'
The friction between the elected government of Jammu and Kashmir and the Raj Bhavan appears to have come out in the open. Taking on Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha in what appears to be the first direct confrontation since his government was elected last year, senior National Conference leader and Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary accused him of 'running a proxy government' in Jammu and Kashmir. Without taking names, Choudhary said if someone thinks that he could 'crush the mandate of the people' he won't be allowed because 'the government is not scared and is ready to fight for the people'. This is the first direct attack on L-G Sinha by the National Conference government. While Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has so far been treading cautiously, Choudhary's tirade appears to have brought to the fore the friction between the elected government and the Raj Bhavan. While the transfer of officers has been a bone of contention between Raj Bhawan and the elected government, it is not clear what was the immediate trigger for Choudhary's tirade against L-G Sinha. 'He should understand that he is playing with the Constitution of India,' Choudhary said. Choudhary then accused the BJP of running a 'proxy government' through L-G Sinha and demanded the return of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir. The government, Choudhary said, would take to the streets if needed. '(If) someone thinks that he will be able to crush the mandate of the people chosen in democracy, he will not be able to do it. What harm will they do to us — those protected by God and the people, who have voted for us,' the Deputy Chief Minister said. 'Do not think that we will get scared… We are not ones to get scared. We are ones to fight,' Choudhary said. It had been hoped that the Lt Governor would accept the people's mandate, Choudhary said. 'But it seems that some things are not getting right and when such an action happens, be it a transfer or anything else, then don't celebrate it as some sort of bravery. Gujarat CM Bhupendra Patel visits Ahmedabad Hospital to meet plane crash victims
Ahmedabad (Gujarat) [India], June 12 (ANI): Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel on Thursday rushed to Asarwa Civil Hospital in Ahmedabad, where victims of the Air India plane crash were admitted for treatment. Expressing grief over the tragic incident, CM Patel assured comprehensive support for rescue and relief operations. Chief Minister directed authorities to establish a green corridor to expedite the transfer of injured passengers to medical facilities. He also ensured that hospitals are equipped to provide priority treatment. In a post on X, CM Patel stated, 'I am deeply saddened by the accident of the Air India passenger plane crash in Ahmedabad. I have instructed the officials to take immediate rescue and relief operations in the accident and to make arrangements for immediate treatment of the injured passengers on a war footing. I have also instructed to arrange a green corridor to take the injured passengers for treatment and to ensure all the treatment arrangements in the hospital are given priority. The Honourable Union Home Minister Shri Amitbhai Shah has also spoken to me and assured full support of the NDRF teams and the Central Government for the rescue and relief operations in this plane crash.' According to his X post, PM Modi has also been closely monitoring the situation and is in constant communication with state authorities. Earlier today, an Air India plane from Ahmedabad to London with 242 passengers crashed in the Meghaninagar area near Ahmedabad airport on Thursday. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation said that a team has been rushed to the spot for investigation. The aircraft was under the command of Capt Sumeet Sabharwal and First Officer Clive Kundar. Capt Sumeet Sabharwal is an LTC with 8200 hours of experience, and the official added that the copilot had 1100 hours of flying experience. As per ATC, the aircraft departed from Ahmedabad at 1339 IST (0809 UTC) from runway 23. It made a Mayday call to ATC, but thereafter, the aircraft did not respond to the calls. The aircraft fell on the ground outside the airport perimeter immediately after departing Runway 23. The official said heavy black smoke was seen coming from the accident site. Thick plumes of smoke could be seen at the accident spot. (ANI)

"Extremely sad and painful": MoS Home Nityanad Rai expresses grief over Ahmedabad plane crash
New Delhi [India], June 12 (ANI): Union Minister of State (MoS) for Home Affairs, Nityanand Rai, on Thursday expressed grief over the plane crash in Gujarat's Ahmedabad, involving an Air India flight en route to Gatwick in London. In a post on X, Rai said, 'The news of the plane crash in Ahmedabad, Gujarat is extremely sad and painful. May God give strength to the families who have lost their loved ones to bear this sorrow.' BJP leader Kavinder Gupta termed the accident 'massive' and prayed for the recovery of the injured. 'We can only pray to God that everyone is safe. This is a massive accident. We can say anything only after we get official information,' Gupta told ANI. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed deep sorrow over the tragic incident in Ahmedabad, terming it 'heartbreaking beyond words.' In a post on X, PM Modi conveyed his condolences and assured assistance to those affected. According to the post, PM Modi has been closely monitoring the situation and is in constant communication with state authorities. 'The tragedy in Ahmedabad has stunned and saddened us. It is heartbreaking beyond words. In this sad hour, my thoughts are with everyone affected by it. Have been in touch with Ministers and authorities who are working to assist those affected,' the Prime Minister wrote. Confirming the incident, Air India said that among the 242 passengers, 169 were Indians, 53 Britishers, seven portugese and one Canadian national. 'Air India confirms that flight AI171, from Ahmedabad to London Gatwick, was involved in an accident today after take-off. The flight, which departed from Ahmedabad at 1338 hours, was carrying 242 passengers and crew members on board the Boeing 787-8 aircraft. Of these, 169 are Indian nationals, 53 are British nationals, 1 Canadian national and 7 Portuguese nationals. The injured are being taken to the nearest hospitals. We have also set up a dedicated passenger hotline number, 1800 5691 444, to provide more information. Air India is giving its full cooperation to the authorities investigating this incident,' the airline said. According to officials, the aircraft was under the command of Captain Sumeet Sabharwal, an LTC with 8,200 hours of flying experience. He was assisted by First Officer Clive Kundar, who had 1,100 hours of flying experience. As per Air Traffic Control (ATC), the aircraft departed from Runway 23 at 1339 IST (0809 UTC). It gave a mayday call to ATC, but thereafter, no response was given by the aircraft to the calls made by ATC. 'Aircraft immediately after departure from Runway 23, fell on the ground outside the airport perimeter. Heavy black smoke was seen coming from the accident site,' the official added. (ANI)
