EXCLUSIVE: ‘Why are we pretending?' Anu Aggarwal quips ‘kya bura hai' as casting couch exists everywhere
Anu Aggarwal is a senior Bollywood actress who has worked with multiple film directors. Since she was a popular name in the industry during her time, she shared some great insights about the Hindi film industry. While exclusively speaking to Pinkvilla, the Aashiqui debutant spoke about the existence of casting couch in the industry and questioned 'Why are we pretending?' Read on!
After nepotism, casting couch in Bollywood is a raging topic of discussion. While some have spoken about its existence, many have also denied it. This time, it's industry veteran Anu Aggarwal who shared her two cents on the matter during an exclusive interview with us.
She went on to state that during her time working in the Hindi film industry, she had close relationships with all of her directors, including Mahesh Bhatt. But there was no 'hanky-panky', and she wasn't subjected to casting couch.
The King Uncle actress further asked, 'Kahan nhi hai casting couch?' adding that this exists even in banks, corporate houses, and other such places. Anu went on to opine, 'Kya baat kar rahe ho aap? (What are you talking about?) Why are we pretending? Everywhere there's casting couch. Since life has started, there's man and woman, and there are two energies, male and female, their union is something that everybody wants. That's what's entire history of Earth.'

The Janam Kundli actress went on to ask, 'So, what is 'Ye bura hai' kya bura hai? So, at the end of the day, if you didn't make it, kya bura hai- when you don't use your potential, that is bura. (So, what do you mean by this is wrong? At the end of the day, if you didn't make it and didn't use your potential, this is wrong.) What's the big deal being made about casting couch?'
In the same chat, she also gave her opinions on Shraddha Kapoor and Aditya Roy Kapur's Aashiqui 2. While she was quick to admit that she had watched the movie, Anu exclaimed, 'Nice, nice, matlab you know I didn't want to like to judge it.'

When Ed was in India for his tour, he reached out to Arijit with a suggestion to finish the song in person. To that, Arijit warmly responded, inviting Ed to visit his hometown. Ed wrote, "I was with my dad on tour, which is a rarity to get so much one-on-one time with him. Me and him got a flight to Kolkata, then a 5 and a half hour drive to his home town." There, the duo finalized 'Sapphire' a song born not just from musical synergy but a shared cultural curiosity and mutual respect.

As fans eagerly await the release of Rana Naidu Season 2, actor Rana Daggubati shared a hilarious behind-the-scenes moment he witnessed with his maternal uncle, Venkatesh Daggubati, during the shooting of the show. Talking to The Indian Express' SCREEN, Rana said he didn't realise until much later that he was abusing his mama on screen in the first season of Rana Naidu. 'Shit! What did I say!' was the actor's first reaction when he learnt what his Hindi dialogues meant. 'Since it was Hindi, I didn't understand much of what I said in part 1. So I thought it was okay. It was worse when I was dubbing it in Telugu,' Rana shared. However, the actor said that since both of them were in 'very definite attire and look,' they were all fine. 'We're licensed to do anything,' he laughed. The 'Baahubali' actor said that ever since he became an actor, he had always thought he would work with his uncle Venkatesh. 'From the time I made it as an actor, I always thought I'd work with him at some point of time. I was really looking forward to what that project would be,' he told SCREEN. 'As a co-actor, he's pretty phenomenal and charges us to be better each time,' Rana said, sharing his experience of working with his uncle in Rana Naidu. The actor also added that the Netflix India series is 'something unique that came our way. It's not something he or I have done before.' 'These characters can just go on because they started from such opposite ends that you can travel with them across multiple seasons,' he added. Rana Daggubati also acknowledged that Rana Naidu is 'the only 'pan-Indian' show,' as his co-star Abhishek Banerjee rightly pointed out. Fans can watch Rana Naidu Season 2 on Netflix. The OTT giant will begin streaming it on Friday, June 13.

Aamir Khan rejected Shah Rukh Khan's Swades because he found Ashutosh Gowariker's 3-hour narration boring: ‘It was titled Kaveri Amma'
Aamir Khan made history in 2002 when his blockbuster period sports drama Lagaan got nominated in the Best Foreign Film category at the Academy Awards. While the whole Hindi film industry warned Aamir against making a film set in a village, on cricket, and with him wearing a dhoti, Aamir chose to ride on the conviction of an unsuccessful director like Ashutosh Gowariker. He even turned producer for the film. It was natural that Gowariker would make his next film with Aamir. And he did pitch his 2004 cult social drama Swades to Aamir, only for the latter to reject it. 'I found it very boring,' said Aamir. 'I had said this to Ashu when he narrated the story to me. In fact, I'll tell you Ashu narrated the story to me when we were making Lagaan. It was titled Kaveri Amma then. That's what he told me,' added Aamir. Kaveri Amma was the name of protagonist Mohan Bhargava's foster mother in the film, and it was essayed by late Kishori Ballal. Aamir recalled what exactly happened then, in an interview with Zoom. 'I had liked the story very much. I said we'd make that one after Lagaan. After Lagaan released, we made Ashu sit with a writer. AKP (Aamir Khan Productions) was producing it,' said Aamir. 'When the story was ready, Ashu narrated it to me. It was a three hour-long narration. When he asked me how I liked it, I said I want to tell you my first reaction first. I said, 'I got bored. It's very important for you to hear this reaction. What you're trying to say is very correct, noble, and important, but if you say it in such a boring manner… I got bored, I don't know about everyone else.'' Aamir recalled. He revealed he said no to Gowariker unless he can make Swades more interesting. 'I've actually not seen the film yet. Maybe he'd have corrected it and people would've liked it then. I did note that people loved Shah Rukh's work in it,' said Aamir. Mohan Bhargava was eventually played by Shah Rukh Khan, in what's considered one of his best performances till date. Swades, eventually co-produced by Gowariker and UTV Motion Pictures, revolved around Mohan Bhargava, a scientist at NASA who returns to his native village in India and ends up reconnecting with his roots and relocating to his homeland. It also starred Gayatri Joshi in her debut role opposite Shah Rukh. 'I really loved Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge. Kuch Kuch Hota Hai is one of my favourite films of his,' Aamir said of Shah Rukh's films at a recent event.
