Meet Hammer
Tell us about Hammer
A lot like a Hammer I'm forged, not made. I'm a hard hitter who's not only a massive unit but quick and explosive. I'm a surprise. I'm here to stop contenders. I mean business.
What would you say are your Gladiators character traits and physical strengths?
Hard hitting. Powerful. Quick. Explosive and surprising. The guy you bring in when you need to shake things up. The enforcer.
Which event plays most to your strengths and where would you say you should be most feared as an opponent?
Unleash and Duel. I'm rapid and powerful. Nobody wants a 6 foot 6, over 19 stone, Gladiator sprinting after them.
How do you prepare yourself physically for Gladiators?
I prepare by taking my state of readiness to the very edge, channelling my energy into the next task ahead. I also always think about not letting the people around me down.
What did you think when you saw the set for the first time?
It didn't feel real at first but quickly it felt right. I remembered why I was there. I'm a Gladiator and it was my time to shine.
What can people expect from the new series?
Expect surprises. Expect a thrilling collaboration of elite athletes showcasing their attributes against a challenging set off glory hunting contenders.

BBC iPlayer adds ‘heartbreaking' Emma Thompson film

Emma Thompson is as inspiring as ever in this riveting real-life drama now streaming on BBC iPlayer One of Emma Thompson's best roles in an acclaimed drama film based on a heartbreaking true story is now streaming for free. Based on an acclaimed novel by Ian McEwan, in turn loosely inspired by an unbelievable true story, The Children Act is a must-watch for cinephiles this week. ‌ If you want to be stunned and deeply moved at every turn, look no further than BBC iPlayer from Monday night as the film will be available shortly after its broadcast on BBC Two. ‌ That means you'll be able to tune in totally free of charge and have your world shaken over the course of this heart-stopping, 90-minute drama. Hollywood star Stanley Tucci also features in this gripping narrative about High Court judge Fiona Maye, who is forced to decide the fate of a teenage boy (played by Fionn Whitehead) refusing a blood transfusion that could save his life on religious grounds. Meanwhile, her marriage to husband Jack (Tucci) is crumbling, putting everything she's built towards at risk during the most pivotal point of her career. Critics and film fans alike have been raving about The Children Act since its release in 2017, with the BFI calling it 'a heartbreaking lament for loves lost and lives unrealised, a restrained, nuanced movie about nuance and restraint.' The Guardian added: 'It is a highly watchable drama of the highly educated public-servant class. ‌ 'Emma Thompson's performance, so elegant and vulnerable, carries the picture.' A Google review raved: 'I was so moved by Thompson's performance, that I revisited this film for 4 viewings. The young man, Fionn Whitehead was as engaging as a seasoned actor twice his age.' ‌ Another five-star write-up said: 'Beautiful. That was the first word that came to mind when I watched this movie. 'The execution was simply marvelous. Somehow these people managed to become the characters and bring out such raw emotion whilst being formal and well mannered. BBC viewers praise 'sublime' period drama featuring 'greatest living actor'

Wolf Hall: The Mirror and the Light is now available to stream on BBC iPlayer, and fans are already raving about the historical drama, which delves into the final years of Thomas Cromwell's life Audiences are enamoured with the "astounding" historical drama set in the era of the Tudors, commending its adherence to historical detail and the "sublime" quality of the acting. BBC's Wolf Hall: The Mirror and the Light brings to life the novels of Hilary Mantel, chronicling the intriguing latter years of Thomas Cromwell as the lawyer and principal secretary to King Henry VIII. Viewers find themselves captivated by Cromwell's complex life that ultimately leads to his execution by order of the monarch. Taking place in the 1500s, the initial six-part series showcases the zenith of Cromwell's clout before his subsequent disgrace, delving into the fraught tensions between him, the king, and the Royal court. Following Anne Boleyn's infamous execution, the drama unfurls without holding back on the intense intrigue of the era. Having premiered in 2015, the series still garners high praise from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes. A fan commented, "Absolutely astounding! This show was incredible, and the performances from the cast made me feel like I was witnessing the actual events that were depicted in the show. All period pieces should use this show as a template because it was amazing in every way. I definitely recommend this for mediaeval and history fans!". A recent Vogue review read: "Rylance is one of our greatest living actors, and the emotions he holds in his face are manifold. His delivery of Mantel's dialogue-modern, intelligent, bristling with implication and subterfuge-is mesmerisingly clear", reports the Express. Mark Rylance's spellbinding portrayal of Thomas Cromwell has profoundly resonated with audiences. His co-star Damian Lewis takes on the role of Henry VIII, with both actors receiving widespread acclaim for their depictions of the storied characters. Echoing this sentiment, a critic said: "An utterly sublime performance by Rylance and Lewis. The whole programme is beautiful." Serving as a second season to the critically acclaimed Wolf Hall, based on Hilary Mantel's novels, there's a consensus that this season may surpass its predecessor. While season one covered Mantel's first two books, 'Wolf Hall' and 'Bring Up the Bodies', the current series adapts her final book and shares its title. Another review reads: "Season 2 of Wolf Hall still has many of the things going for it that made season 1 so good. First and foremost, that would be the strong source material in Hilary Mantel's literature and excellent acting. There is also a strong sense of historical accuracy in some regards, down to the finer details of costume design." Adding to the accolades, a viewer said: "Season 2 is arguably greater than its acclaimed predecessor. Cromwell's middle-aged regrets build poignantly, while brisker pacing and some levity lend the proceedings a teeming liveliness." For those keen on delving into the life of Thomas Cromwell and the reign of King Henry VIII, Wolf Hall: The Mirror and the Light is now ready for streaming on BBC iPlayer.

Directed by Jane Campion and based on Thomas Savage's 1967 novel of the same name, the film features a star-studded cast including Benedict Cumberbatch, Jesse Plemons, Kirsten Dunset and Kodi Smit-Mcphee. The film follows Phil and George Burbank, wealthy ranching brothers played by Cumberbatch and Plemons, whose lives are disturbed when they meet a widow, Rose (Dunst) and her son (Smit-McPhee) during a cattle drive. ‌ While George forms a romantic relationship with Rose, eventually marrying her, Phil's hostility towards her intensifies, creating a tense and awkward atmosphere when she and her son move into the Burbank ranch house. ‌ As Phil taunts Rose, he surprisingly begins to take Peter under his wing. But what seems like an innocent gesture of goodwill seems to unravel more complex motivations on Phil's end, leaving Rose extremely uneasy. The story is full of tension, drama and uneasiness making it a must watch for movie lovers. For those who haven't watched the award-winning hit, or just want to rewatch the film, it is now available to stream for free on BBC iPlayer, as well as being available on Netflix to watch now. The Power of the Dog was an instant hit following its premiere at the 2021 Venice Film Festival, as well as being nominated for 12 Oscars and seven Golden Globes. ‌ It has been hailed as the best film of 2021 by the American Film Institute and it currently holds a 94% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. One viewer reviewed the film on Rotten Tomatoes giving it a 4.5 out of 5 stars, writing: "When you don't know nothing about it and you are slowly surprised is nice! Another view praised the acting skills, giving it a 4.5 out of 5 stars, stating: "Strong performances from Benedict Cumberbatch and Kirsten Dunst." ‌ A third hailed it as 'captivating' giving it 4 out of 5 stars, as they said: "Definitely a slow burn movie, and quite odd. But captivating and mysterious. It will leave you wondering long after the credits roll." Critics have also reviewed the film, with the New York Times stating: "The Power of the Dog builds tremendous force, gaining its momentum through the harmonious discord of its performances, the nervous rhythms of Jonny Greenwood's score and the grandeur of its visuals." And USA Today called The Power of the Dog a "picturesque, enthralling exploration of male ego and toxic masculinity, crafted by an extremely talented woman and offering enough nuanced bite to keep it interesting till the very end." The Power of the Dog is now available to stream on BBC iPlayer for free, as well as Netflix.
