Inzaghi leaves Inter after Champions League final thrashing
Simone Inzaghi has left his position as manager of Inter Milan, the Serie A club said on Tuesday, after a humiliating 5-0 loss in the Champions League final against Paris St Germain capped a trophyless season. "I will never forget you." Italian media reported that Inzaghi will join Saudi Pro League club Al-Hilal and will lead them in the Club World Cup in the United States. Inter confirmed that the decision for Inzaghi to leave the club was taken by mutual agreement earlier in the day. "I would like to thank Simone Inzaghi for the work done, for the passion shown and also for the sincerity in today's discussion, which led to the common decision to separate our paths," club president Giuseppe Marotta said in a statement. Nawrocki wins Polish presidential election
Nationalist historian Karol Nawrocki won Poland's presidential election, official results showed Monday, in a major blow for the pro-EU government and for abortion and LGBTQ rights campaigners. The 42-year-old fan of US President Donald Trump scored 50.9 per cent of the vote in Sunday's runoff in the highly polarised NATO and EU nation. His 53-year-old rival Rafal Trzaskowski, Warsaw's pro-EU mayor and an ally of the centrist government led by Prime Minister Donald Tusk, won 49.1 percent. Nawrocki said he wanted Poland to be 'a state that matters in international, European and transatlantic relations'. 'I will represent you with dignity on the international state, ensuring Poland is treated as an equal,' he said on X. Trzaskowski took hours to concede defeat. 'Congratulations to Karol Nawrocki... This win is an obligation, especially in such difficult times. Especially with a close result. Don't forget that,' he said on X. Nawrocki's win will block the government's progressive agenda for abortion and LGBTQ rights and could revive tensions with Brussels over rule-of-law issues. 'Nawrocki's presidency will be a rough ride for the Tusk government,' analyst Piotr Buras said in a statement. He told AFP the election result was a 'yellow card' for the government and could lead to 'early parliamentary elections, maybe not this year, but next'. French Open: Defending champion Alcaraz cruises into last four
Reigning champion Carlos Alcaraz glided into the semifinals of Roland Garros on Tuesday, blowing away American 12th seed Tommy Paul for the loss of just five games in the night session on Court Philippe Chatrier. The Spaniard needed just one hour 34 minutes to dismantle former world number nine Paul 6-0, 6-1, 6-4 and set up a last-four meeting with Italy's Lorenzo Musetti. Musetti, seeded eighth, earlier beat Paul's compatriot and 15th seed Frances Tiafoe in four sets. It will be the third time Alcaraz and Musetti meet this clay-court season. Alcaraz has dominated that series, beating the Italian in the final in Monte Carlo before also stopping him in the last four on his way to the Rome title.
