It's an east coast homecoming for Landon Sim.
'I had a chance to pick between the 'O' (OHL) and the Quebec League when I was 15, and I picked the OHL. Now I'm going to finish off my junior career in Quebec, so it's kind of funny, but I can't wait,' said Sim.
While most players from Atlantic Canada are required to play in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL), Sim was eligible for both as his father Jon Sim played for the Sarnia Sting in the mid-90s.
In a tournament of unknowns, Sim is the one Knight with an inside scoop on both the Moncton Wildcats and Rimouski Oceanic.

'I know some from playing against them when I was younger, and a couple of them are from my town, so it's pretty special,' said Sim, who has 12 goals in 17 playoff games this season.
When it comes to the Medicine Hat Tigers, goalie Austin Elliott has the scouting report. Two of his former Saskatoon Blades teammates - defenseman Tanner Molendyk—a Nashville Predators prospect—and forward Misha Volotovskii – were traded to the Tigers from the Blades in January.
'I've talked to both of them,' said Elliott, referring to recent communication after finding out they'll be facing each other. 'It'll be so funny playing against them. That's another thing I can't even imagine. I'll have to try not to laugh when I see those two guys are coming in on me. It'll be fun playing them and seeing them there.'

Knights assistant coaches Dylan Hunter and Rick Steadman have spent hours pouring over video of all three opponents.
'You watch a couple of their series, you know seven or eight games on each team,' said Hunter. 'Obviously when you're playing against guys in this league, you know them, you know the players, and you've seen them play. It takes a little bit more trying to go down the line up there, getting the understanding of each player and tendencies and what lines you like to put on certain situations.'
Hunter does think they have an advantage having been through this many times, including last year in Saginaw, Mich.
Rimouski, Que.

'Play your strengths, which is the reason you got there,' added Hunter. 'You can't do too much to change your game up. You've got to go in there, do what you're good at and see if you come out on top.'
Sim said he's never been to Rimouski but does make the drive by the road signs when heading back to the Maritimes after each season.
'I turn right to go home, which is like a six-hour drive,' said Sim. 'If I go straight, there's a sign that goes just to Rimouski. I circled that last year, going home and I said to the boys, 'We have it here next year.' We're going there next year now. It's probably a good town, the ocean's right there, and any town near the ocean is good by me.'
He's hoping a successful opening weekend in the tournament will put them in a position to get more downtime and sightseeing. He can show his teammates around his part of the country.

O Canada: Finals matchup between Olympic teammates Gilgeous-Alexander and Nembhard getting attention

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — The NBA Finals. East vs. West. Indiana vs. Oklahoma City. Canada vs. … Canada? It sure seemed like it at times in Game 1 of the series, anyway — and odds are, there will be more of those moments throughout the rest of this matchup between the Pacers and Thunder. There are four Canadians in the series, and two of them — NBA MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander for the Thunder and Andrew Nembhard for the Pacers — went head-to-head plenty in Game 1. Gilgeous-Alexander scored 38 points; Nembhard scored eight of his 14 in the fourth and was on the floor for the entirety of Indiana's 32-16 run that ended the game and turned a 15-point deficit into a one-point win. 'He's a competitor. He's a winner,' Gilgeous-Alexander said. 'Plays the game the right way on both ends of the floor. Really good player. Yeah, he's a winner for sure. No doubt.' They have been playing alongside each other since they were kids and were teammates on Canada's national team at the Paris Olympics in 2024. And they saw plenty of each other on both ends of the floor in Game 1, plus weren't afraid to mix it up with a little extra push here or choice words there. Nothing over the line, but enough to remind the other that it's all business right now. 'Nothing more than two guys wanting to win,' Gilgeous-Alexander said. 'No malicious intent behind it, just wanting to win.' Oklahoma City's Lu Dort and Indiana's Bennedict Mathurin are the other two Canadians in the finals. The four Canadian players combined for 72 points in Game 1; that's the most ever in any finals game by players from any individual country other than the U.S. That smashed the previous mark for points from Canadians in a finals game; it was 34, all from Jamal Murray, for Denver in Game 3 against Miami in 2023. 'It's amazing for our country,' Nembhard said. It's not just Gilgeous-Alexander who has long-time familiarity with Nembhard. Thunder forward Chet Holmgren played with Nembhard at Gonzaga as well. Winnipeg Jets Game Days On Winnipeg Jets game days, hockey writers Mike McIntyre and Ken Wiebe send news, notes and quotes from the morning skate, as well as injury updates and lineup decisions. Arrives a few hours prior to puck drop. 'Obviously, he's my guy, great dude,' Holmgren said. 'I have a lot of compliments for him as a basketball player and a person. But we're playing against him right now, so I'm going to hold on to all those.' Pacers coach Rick Carlisle knows the Gilgeous-Alexander vs. Nembhard matchup might be viewed by some as a game within the game. He said Nembhard 'loves the challenge' of matching wits with Gilgeous-Alexander. 'I mean, you don't stop players today,' Carlisle said. 'You try to make it hard. He played with Shai on the Olympic team and so they have familiarity. They are both from Canada and they both have played a lot with and against each other over the years. But this is the ultimate challenge, a guy like him who is the MVP.' ___ AP NBA:

(Source: Twenty-two-year-old Viljami Marjala from Finland has signed a two-year entry-level contract with the Edmonton Oilers, the team announced Saturday morning. The forward has spent the past three seasons with the Finnish Elite League's TPS, dressing for 129 games, scoring 29 goals, and counting 72 assists. In the 2024-25 season, he tied for the most points in the club at 52. Marjala was originally selected by the Buffalo Sabres in the fifth round of the 2021 National Hockey League Draft, but never signed a contract, instead spending two seasons with the Quebec Ramparts before returning to play in his home country. The Oilers are currently tied with the Florida Panthers heading into Game 3 of the Stanley Cup Final.
