PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — This week, Oregon Gov. Tina Kotek allowed the DMV to resume automatic voter registration under the so-called 'motor voter law.'
The governor paused the practice after DMV clerical and policy mistakes resulted in more than 1,600 people making it onto voter rolls without verification of citizenship.
Newly elected Secretary of State, former State Treasurer and former state legislator Tobias Read joined this week's Eye on Northwest Politics to discuss Oregon election integrity and more.

Musk favorability among Republicans drops after Trump feud: Poll
Tech billionaire Elon Musk saw his favorability drop sharply among Republicans in the aftermath of his public feud with President Trump, according to the latest YouGov/Economist poll. In the survey — conducted in the days after the drama unfolded between two of the world's most powerful men — Musk's net favorability among Republicans fell to 39 percent, with 67 percent favorable and 28 percent unfavorable. That represents a dramatic drop from the net 59 percent favorability rating Musk saw the previous week, when 76 percent of Republicans held a favorable view and 18 percent held an unfavorable view of Musk. Musk's favorability declined across virtually all political groups. Overall, his net favorability dropped this week to negative 23 percent — 35 percent favorable, 58 percent unfavorable — down from a net favorability of negative 9 percent the previous week — 42 percent favorable, 51 percent unfavorable. Among Democrats, Musk's net favorability dropped to net negative 77 percent — 10 percent favorable, 87 percent unfavorable — down from last week's already dismal net negative 65 percent — 15 percent favorable, 80 percent unfavorable. Even independents soured this week on Musk, whose favorability among that group dropped to net negative 32 percent — 27 percent favorable, 59 percent unfavorable — down from the previous week's net negative 22 percent — 34 percent favorable, 56 percent unfavorable. The poll also asked respondents whose side they would pick in the feud between Trump and Musk. The vast majority of Republicans picked Trump, 74 percent, while only 6 percent chose Musk. Another 13 percent said neither and 7 percent said they're not sure. The majority of Democrats and independents say they would side with neither Trump nor Musk. The poll, conducted June 6-9, included 1,533 U.S. adults and a margin of error of 3.5 percentage points. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
