Cole Cubelic on Auburn's OL: 'This is the one that looks like it has the most potential'

Cole Cubelic on Auburn's OL: 'This is the one that looks like it has the most potential' Cubelic's assessment of Auburn's offensive line should excite Tiger fans.
An offense is usually as good as its offensive line. Auburn, a team that hopes to take a giant step towards a College Football Playoff berth in 2025, will rely heavily on its front five to produce opportunities for the rest of its skill players to thrive.
One college football analyst believes that this year's offensive line has the potential to lift Auburn to new heights.
SEC Network analyst and former Auburn offensive lineman Cole Cubelic recently ranked the SEC's best offensive line units, placing Auburn's line at No. 3, in front of Alabama and Florida and behind Texas A&M and Georgia.
Cubelic admits he is cautious when labeling an Auburn unit as one of the SEC's best, but he has high hopes for this year's line.
"It's been a long time since we've had a discussion like this. Point blank, I'll be the first one to admit it: it's obviously not a comfortable conversation because there have been a few of them along the way that we all sort of bought into and thought about and said, 'Maybe, probably, could be…' This is the one that looks like it has the most potential.'
Connor Lew headlines the unit's top returners
Lew posted the highest pass-block rating last season with a 79.9, according to Pro Football Focus. In 748 snaps at center, Lew allowed nine pressures and just one sack. Cubelic considers Lew one of the best centers in the SEC.
'I think Connor Lew, right there with (Alabama center Parker Brailsford) and a couple others we will talk about (Florida center Jake Slaughter) have a chance to be the best center in the SEC. It's going to be a dog fight to get that No. 1 first-team All-SEC center spot this year. There are four or five that I think have a chance to be really good football players. Lew is great: he's athletic, he can get out in space, he can climb to the second level, and he's got that nasty, the demeanor–plays the game in the way it's supposed to be played.'
Who returns to the unit?
Izavion Miller, Jeremiah Wright, Dillon Wade, and Connor Lew saw action in 379 or more snaps last season. Wade played the most by seeing action in 751 snaps over four positions, while Lew played the most at one position, playing 748 snaps at center. Auburn will boast one of the SEC's most experienced offensive lines, which should play a role in the success of the entire offense.
Newcomers to watch for
Auburn added transfer tackles Xavier Chaplin from Virginia Tech and Mason Murphy from USC to fill the gaps at tackle. Chaplin allowed 13 pressures as Virginia Tech's starting left tackle last season, while Murphy allowed three sacks as the Trojans' right tackle. Expect those two players to see significant action on the line this season, while younger players DeAndre Carter and Tyler Johnson will see their roles expand in 2025.

Jets' young offensive line named their biggest strength entering 2025

Over the past few seasons, the Jets' front office and this new regime have made it known that they want to develop a high-caliber offensive line. And according to Pro Football Focus, they have done just that. Jets acquired young, talented linemen this offseason PFF's Max Chadwick and Dalton Wasserman recently named the Jets' 'young, impressive offensive line' their biggest strength. Advertisement The most talented player they acquired on the offensive line this offseason is rookie tackle Armand Membou, who they took at No. 7 overall. Membou was one of my favorite players in this past draft class, as he is a perfect fit for the Jets. Credit: Denny Medley-Imagn Images What made him stand out to me the most is his athleticism and production combo. He is able to get out in space on outside zones, tosses, while still being able to plant his foot on pass plays. At the right tackle position, he will slot in right away as the starter for years to come. A backup depth piece that could play a big role on the inside this season is Josh Myers, the former center of the Green Bay Packers. Advertisement I expect Myers to get a starting opportunity in a center-needy team, but he surprisingly took a backup-level contract with the Jets. This is a great get for the Jets, as they acquired a talented player with starting experience to sure up the middle if an injury occurs. Both of these moves could play big roles this season, as the Jets are notorious for going through injury problems. With Membou starting at tackle and Myers being a good backup, it is obvious that PFF made a good call with naming the line a strength. Offensive line strength isn't a one-year wonder The best part about this resurgence of offensive linemen for the Jets is that they are all young, and most of them are under contract long-term. Credit: Kevin R. / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images Their tackles, Olu Fashanu and Armand Membou, each have at least the next three seasons locked in with the team, maybe five for Membou with the option. Advertisement This core of offensive linemen will be there for years to come, with possibly a guard and a swing tackle being in the mix for next season. This Jets front office, with help from the past few seasons as well, has built a young and sustainably talented offensive line that could really blossom this season. Related Headlines

Five things to know about Coastal Carolina ahead of the Auburn baseball Super Regional

Five things to know about Coastal Carolina ahead of the Auburn baseball Super Regional Auburn is set to host one of the hottest teams in college baseball this weekend. Here's what to know about the Chanticleers. Auburn baseball passed its first test of the NCAA Tournament last weekend by beating Coastal Carolina, Stetson, and NC State in the Auburn Regional. This weekend, the Tigers will host its first-ever Super Regional at Plainsman Park against one of the hottest teams in college baseball, the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers. Coastal Carolina was one of two teams from the Sun Belt Conference to host a regional last weekend, joining Southern Miss. Unlike the Golden Eagles, the Chanticleers emerged victorious from its regional by defeating Fairfield in game one, and closed the weekend by beating East Carolina twice. Chants first baseman Colby Thorndyke won the regional's MVP award after recording seven RBI on five hits over the weekend, with his most notable game coming against ECU in Saturday's winner's bracket game where he went 4-for-5 with six RBI, four coming from a grand slam in the 7th inning. What else is there to know about the Chanticleers? Here are five quick facts about Auburn baseball's super regional opponent. Coastal Carolina is the last mid-major team to win the College World Series Coastal Carolina has made just one appearance in the College World Series, and the result could not have been better. The Chanticleers earned a seat at the 2016 College World Series championship series by winning three games in the loser's bracket, and went on to beat Arizona in the three-game series, 2-1. Coastal punched their tickets to Omaha by upsetting NC State in the Raleigh Regional and sweeping LSU in the Baton Rouge Super Regional. Coastal Carolina holds an impressive win streak The Chanticleers are one of the hottest teams in college baseball. Coastal carries a 21-game winning streak into this weekend's super regional, a streak that began on April 25 with an 11-inning win over Sun Belt rival James Madison in Virginia. In that span, the Chanticleers have beaten NCAA Regional hosts Clemson and Southern Miss, and swept the competition at last weekend's Conway Regional by beating Fairfield and East Carolina twice. Coastal Carolina will keep the Auburn defense on its toes As expected, the Chanticleers rank near the top in every major offensive category in the Sun Belt Conference. However, there is one stat that sets them apart from the rest of their home league. Coastal Carolina baserunners have stolen 106 bases this season, seven more than the second-place team, Louisiana. Sebastian Alexander and Wells Sykes rank in the Sun Belt's top in the category with 27 and 17 respectively. Cameron Flukey and Jacob Morrison will challenge the Auburn lineup Coastal Carolina has a pair of right-handed starting pitchers that will challenge the Tigers' bats. Cameron Flukey and Jacob Morrison rank in the top-five of several major Sun Belt categories including ERA, OBA, innings pitched, and strikeouts. The duo combined to strikeout 14 batters in last week's Conway Regional, with Flukey's nine strikeout, seven-inning start in the Chanticleers regional opener against Fairfield setting the tone for the weekend. Flukey, Morrison, and third-place starter Riley Eikhoff boast sub-3.20 ERAs and have combined to strikeout 254 batters while allowing just 16 home runs. Coastal Carolina has the highest win total among remaining Super Regional squads There is only one team remaining in the 2025 NCAA Tournament with over 50 wins, the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers. The Chants are 51-11 entering the weekend, and ranks No. 7 in the RPI according to D1Baseball. Coastal is a combined 16-9 against teams in quad-1 and quad-2. HC Mike Elko is highly confident in Texas A&M's veteran 2025 offensive line

HC Mike Elko is highly confident in Texas A&M's veteran 2025 offensive line During Mike Elko's assistant coaching career, which included his three year stint as Texas A&M's defensive coordinator (2018-2021), he experienced one of the Aggies' best seasons since the memorable 2012 campaign during the 9-1 2020 COVID-inflicted season, which included an elite performance from Texas A&M's offensive line. Throughout the offseason, included during Wednesday's Houston Coach's Night, Elko has continued to emphasize Texas A&M's veteran offensive line that includes every returning starter from the start of the 2024 season, including center Mark Nabou, who missed the season's entirety after an early lower body injury. Elko also mentioned Texas A&M's deep running back room, headlined by senior back Le'Veon Moss. "If you think back to the core of the 2020 football team, the offensive line is where it all started. We bring back all four tailbacks. That is not something you see all the time." This group's size, experience, and NFL potential, especially left tackle Trey Zuhn, left guard Chase Bisontis, and right guard Ar'maj Reed-Adams, are considered some of the best at their positions, and will provide a significant impact in both pass pro and run blocking. For starting quarterback Marcel Reed, his success starts in the trenches, as the redshirt sophomore looks to improve as a pocket passer, which is vital if the Aggies plan to make it through their tough schedule and earn the program's first College Football Playoff berth. The running game will be emphasized, which is a staple of OC Collin Klein's scheme, but know that when opposing defenses shut down the run game, Marcel Reed will be looked at to take full control from the pocket and deliver strikes down the field, and will solid pass protection, Elko is confident that his starting signal caller can get the job done if the line holds up.
