iSPEED, a Rs 145 crore initiative is a five-year commitment to directly benefit over 2 lakh
smallholder rubber farmers
and nursery owners across the Northeastern states and West Bengal by imparting structured skill training, deploying modern infrastructure, and improving quality standards at source.
Under this initiative 3,000 smokehouses for high-quality sheet production will be set up and 3,000 sheet rolling machines, including manual and motorised units will be installed.
INROAD Skilling and Production Efficiency Enhancement Drive (iSPEED)was launched by Arun Mammen, Chairman, Automotive Tyre Manufacturers Association (ATMA) along with Pravin Tripathi, Chairman, INROAD in Guwahati on Tuesday.
INROAD is a first of its kind project in the world where the tyre industry is contributing directly towards development of rubber plantations financially supported by four members of Automotive Tyre Manufacturers Association (ATMA) including Apollo,
Ceat
, JK and
MRF
and implemented by the Rubber Board of India.
'With iSPEED, we are investing in the knowledge and capabilities of India's rubber growers,' said Arun Mammen, Chairman, ATMA and Vice Chairman & Managing Director MRF Ltd. 'The Indian Tyre Industry is proud to support a model that empowers smallholders with scientific know-how, sustainable practices, and shared infrastructure. It's a step towards true rubber self-reliance.'
Rubber cultivation in the Northeast has grown significantly under the
INROAD Project
, with over 1.36 lakh new growers taking up plantation in the past four years. However, limited access to scientific tapping techniques, quality processing infrastructure, and disease management continues to impact yields.
To address these gaps, iSPEED will support the deployment of, 3,000 smokehouses for high-quality sheet production, 3,000 sheet rolling machines, including manual and motorised units, model nurseries and demonstration units across key field stations, processing and grading centres for post-harvest management and a network of lead farmers to support community-based knowledge transfer.
'With INROAD laying the foundation, iSPEED will bring the momentum,' said Pravin Tripathi, Chairman, INROAD. 'We are building rural infrastructure and skilling models that will outlast the project cycle and create sustainable value for growers.'
ATMA Chairman launched the initiative formally by inaugurating a few smokehouses in Tripura and Assam tailor made for the region and created using local materials.
Since the majority of the beneficiaries of the project are small landholders with holdings of less than one acre, INROAD is encouraging group approach for creating infrastructure so that the entire community is empowered.
Rubber smokehouses are vital for producing high-quality rubber sheets by drying and curing latex, the milky substance that is tapped skilfully from the rubber trees. The Rubber Board will be the primary implementation partner, supported by regional institutions like Tripura University and other domain experts.
Expected outcomes of iSPEED include improved productivity in rubber plantations, enhanced quality of RSS-4 grade rubber at farm-gate level, better pricing and improved incomes for growers, promotion of sustainable tapping, intercropping, and effluent management and formation of a trained local workforce aligned with global best practices.

'Quick commerce ops not hurting beauty biz, its aiding personal care'

As Blinkit, Zepto, and Instamart expand aggressively into beauty and personal care, Nykaa is taking a slower, more curated approach. Its pilot, Nykaa Now, is live in select areas of Mumbai, New Delhi, and Bengaluru, with a deliberate focus on personal care rather than its core beauty range. Tired of too many ads? Remove Ads Tired of too many ads? Remove Ads Tired of too many ads? Remove Ads As vertical ecommerce players gear up to fight the quick commerce battle, Nykaa is taking a cautious approach toward the segment. After piloting quick-commerce platform Nykaa Now in select pin codes across Mumbai, Delhi and Bengaluru last year, the beauty and fashion etailer says its core beauty category isn't designed for 10-minute deliveries and much of the traction is coming from personal care products "Nearly 80% of what we sell is beauty and 20% is personal care. Personal care is what's really picking up on quick commerce," said Adwaita Nayar, cofounder of Nykaa and executive director and CEO of Nykaa Fashion. "Our beauty business' gross merchandise value (GMV) has grown at 30% year-on-year for the last four quarters. So I don't think we're seeing an impact of quick commerce. It's hard to know what growth would have looked like without it, but we're where we expected to be."Beauty is a discovery and inspiration-led category, where there is a lot of width and depth that needs to be serviced. The nature of quick commerce doesn't typically support that kind of assortment, Nayar told ET in an clarified that the Nykaa Now list is curated separately with a focus on personal care and gifting rather than mirroring its primary ecommerce catalogue. The cautious tone contrasts with how horizontal quick commerce platforms like Blinkit, Swiggy 's Instamart, and Zepto have aggressively expanded into newer categories such as electronics and fashion and beauty products. These companies have said beauty and personal care is fastest growing on their with the bigger players like Myntra, several vertical quick commerce startups have emerged, backed by venture capital including the likes of Slikk and Blip in the fashion and apparel did acknowledge a broader shift in delivery expectations. "It's not about 10 minutes, but people's expectations for delivery speed globally is just going up," she as discretionary spending slows in parts of India's consumer internet market, Nykaa's beauty business continues to grow at a healthy pace, Nayar said. FSN E-Commerce , Nykaa's parent company, posted a net profit of Rs 19 crore, almost double that reported in the year earlier. Operating revenue rose 23.6% year-on-year to Rs 2,016.7 crore, led by gains in beauty and personal care."We are aware of the broader slowdown. We benchmark ourselves against a lot of these companies and understand what their growth rates look like. But so far, Nykaa hasn't seen a similar impact," Nayar said."Based on our estimates, the online beauty and personal care market grew in the low 20s, while we grew in the high 20s."In contrast, the fashion vertical, which Nayar has led over the last few years, is growing at a slower pace, though it has outpaced overall industry growth at 12% year-on-year GMV growth in FY25."Actually, if you compare the net sales value (of beauty and fashion) it is a more apples-to-apples metric. The split is 75:25 in GMV terms and 80:20 in NSV."Her goal is not to make fashion bigger than beauty, but to build a strong and profitable business with a clearly defined said Nykaa Fashion's positioning remains distinct from fast-fashion players like Shein, which has re-entered India through Reliance Industries

Rapido cuts food delivery charges by half to counter Zomato, Swiggy

Ride-hailing app Rapido has finalised online food delivery partnership costs and terms with restaurants at nearly half the commissions from entrenched rivals Swiggy and Zomato , challenging the duopoly, people directly aware of the developments said. According to the agreed terms with industry body National Restaurants Association of India (NRAI), Rapido is expected to charge commissions in the range of 8-15% from restaurants, compared to 16-30% Zomato and Swiggy charge, the executives said. The partnership terms state Rapido will charge a fixed fee of Rs 25 on orders below Rs 400 and Rs 50 on orders over Rs 400, the people quoted earlier said. This translates to a range of 8-15% commissions from restaurants, compared to 16-30% charged by Zomato and Swiggy. Consumers will be able to place orders on the Rapido app where restaurants will be listed. "This will specially help small restaurants ," one of the executives mentioned above said. The pilot is expected to go live in June-end or first week of July, starting with Bengaluru . ETtech "We've been in discussion with Rapido over the last few months just the way we are working closely with ONDC. We are discussing a structure which is economically and democratically much more viable for restaurants to sustain," NRAI president Sagar Daryani said. He declined to comment on specific partner terms. "It's also very important for us to know our customers and the same has been candidly communicated to them," Daryani added. Allegations of data masking have been a core point of disagreement between restaurants and the large platforms. The ride-hailing unicorn's bike-taxi riders currently have a select 'idle-time' arrangement with Swiggy to deliver food in select cities, but the arrangement is non-exclusive. The NRAI, which represents over 500,000 restaurants, had initiated a similar partnership with the government-backed ONDC in January, but the terms are still being ironed out amid slower traction. Recent months have seen multiple small restaurant owners calling out what they alleged are "steep charges" levied by Zomato and Swiggy. "Zomato is becoming unsustainable for small restaurant owners like us," Vandit Malik, founder, The Garlic Bread, wrote on Linkedin three weeks back. "To even be visible on the platform, I'm forced to spend Rs 30+ per order on ads. What's left? Pennies. Sometimes, not even that," he alleged. The owners of another NCR-based small restaurant, Saffroma, wrote on X last week, which went viral, that it was quitting Zomato alleging "zero payouts, mystery service charges and advertisements initiated without approval." The post has since been deleted.
