44-Year-Old Woman Arrested for Businessman's Murder at Mumbai Hotel
A 44-year-old woman, Barkat Rathod, has been arrested by Dindoshi Police for allegedly murdering Imamuddin Mansuri, a 47-year-old businessman, at a hotel in Malad East. Mansuri's body was discovered on May 4, and the autopsy revealed that he had been poisoned and strangled.
Rathod, who had a close relationship with Mansuri, was arrested at Surat railway station after police traced her. The two had been in a personal relationship but were forced to end it when their families became aware of it. The police further revealed that they were also related.
Mansuri, based in Mira Road, had been a prominent businessman in the area. Police detained Rathod based on technical evidence, and she has been booked for murder under the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita.
The investigation continues as authorities gather further details.

Female doctor assaulted by patient's relatives at Delhi govt hospital
A female resident doctor was brutally assaulted by five women attendants of a patient at Baba Saheb Ambedkar Medical College and Hospital in Rohini on Monday following the death of a newborn baby, police said. An FIR has been registered against the accused, who were later released on bail, they added. The attack took place around 2pm in the corridor between the labour room and wards 11 and 12, when five women allegedly cornered a second-year gynaecology resident and began physically assaulting her, police said. Another resident doctor who attempted to intervene was also injured, they added. 'While I was passing through the corridor, I saw four to five women suddenly approach and point at the victim saying, 'Yahi hai woh doctor, ise maaro' (This is that doctor, beat her). They started assaulting her. Her clothes were torn, they pulled her by her hair and punched her repeatedly. When I tried to protect her, they turned on me as well,' said the second doctor who was injured in the scuffle. According to hospital officials, the patient whose relatives attacked the doctor had delivered a baby about a week ago. The infant was critically ill and placed on a ventilator. Despite undergoing Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), the newborn died after seven days on Monday morning. The mother remains admitted and is receiving treatment. Dr Meenakshi Sidhar, medical director of the hospital, told HT: 'While guards are posted across the hospital, the attack happened at a location where it took some time for them to reach. Immediately after the incident, the victim's MLC was done, and an institutional FIR was filed.' She added that 'all hospital security staff have been reinstated' and measures are being implemented to prevent future incidents. In response to the incident, the Federation of All India Medical Association (FAIMA) on Tuesday, wrote to Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, expressing 'deep anguish and alarm' over the attack. 'Despite prior assurances and policy discussions, doctors continue to work in an environment of fear, without adequate security, and with little to no accountability from administrative bodies,' FAIMA stated in their letter. The association also demanded immediate release of CCTV footage and strict action under relevant BNS sections for physical assault, attempted strangulation, and assault on a public servant. A criminal case has been registered under multiple sections of Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita including obstructing a public servant during their duty, assault, wrongful restraint, use of criminal force to woman with intent to disrobe and provisions of the Medical Services Personnel and Medical Service Institutions Act 2008, though all five accused women were subsequently released after being bound down in the case, police said. 'The attendants assaulted the doctor 'in the heat of anger,' they added in a statement.

Sexual crimes against animals: Plea in HC
New Delhi: Delhi High Court is likely to examine a plea seeking to prosecute those involved in sexual crimes against animals next month. The bench of Chief Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya and Justice Tushar Rao Gedela on May 28 posted the matter for further hearing on July 16 to enable the petitioner to bring more facts on record. The court was dealing with a plea filed by the Federation of Indian Animal Protection Organisations (FIAPO) that highlighted the consequences of the "complete repeal" of Section 377 (unnatural sexual offences) of IPC under the newly enacted Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). While Section 377 of the IPC was read down by Supreme Court in the 2018 Navtej Singh Johar judgment to decriminalise consensual same-sex relationships, its complete deletion from BNS inadvertently decriminalised sexual violence against animals, it said. The parliamentary standing committee on home affairs, the plea said, in its report on BNS highlighted the removal of Section 377, proposing reinstating it to address non-consensual sexual offences against men, transpersons and animals. It submitted that in April 2025 alone, a couple of crimes were reported in Delhi against animals. A man was arrested in Shahdara for allegedly raping several dogs. A pet dog, which succumbed later, was found unconscious on a road in Saket, and a condom was found in its intimate parts. tnn

Ahmedabad: The dust may just be beginning to settle over the clash between two Gujarat police units, State Monitoring Cell (SMC) and CID (Crime), last week. In the meantime, new details emerged, suggesting that a pen drive could be at the centre of the flashpoint between the two units. According to sources, two relatively junior officers walked into the office of CID (Crime) chief Parikshita Rathod — a DIG-rank officer from the state police service — and questioned her about pending applications with the department. Alongside those inquiries, the two junior officers reportedly asked about a pen drive linked to a project in Gandhinagar. The pen drive had reportedly been in CID custody long before Rathod assumed her post, and she is said to have denied any knowledge of it. "It is obvious that the contents of the pen drive hold immense value to some officers," said a source close to the development. For the uninitiated, the matter traces back to a complaint filed by a Vadodara-based businessman over a Rs 15 crore fraud involving a foreign company. Dissatisfied with CID's response, he is believed to have sought help from a 2013-batch IPS officer, who informed DIG Rai, leading to the SMC's intervention. The confrontation peaked when two SMC constables questioned Rathod and a fellow officer in her office. Following objections from CID officials, the constables were asked to leave. The internal discord prompted emergency meetings and the suspension of a police sub-inspector.
