Amazon's car software deal with Stellantis is ending, report says
Amazon's (AMZN) partnership with Stellantis (STLA) to build car software that was supposed to create 'a sustainable, software-defined future' of driving is 'winding down,' Reuters confirmed on Wednesday.
The companies told Reuters in a joint statement that 'Stellantis remains a valuable partner for Amazon' and they will continue to work together, but jointly decided to end work on the SmartCockpit technology.
Amazon and Stellantis announced the collaboration in January 2022, saying that the auto giant's SmartCockpit system would rely on Amazon technology and was set to launch in 2024. The companies did not provide a reason for the dissolution of their partnership.
Stellantis, the maker of Jeep, Fiat, Dodge, Chrysler, and Alfa Romeo, among others, said at the time its vehicles would 'deploy Amazon's technology' that would build connected in-vehicle experiences synchronized with Amazon's home products.
Amazon CEO Andy Jassy said at the time the project would 'transform the automotive industry and re-invent the in-vehicle experience.'
While some tech companies, including Google (GOOGL) and Apple (AAPL), have managed to successfully integrate their software into cars, Amazon's collaboration with Stellantis was the first of its kind for the Washington-based e-commerce giant.
Stellantis also announced the appointment of a new CEO, Antonio Filosa, on Wednesday. Its stock was down about 1%, and Amazon stock was up 0.58% just after the markets opened.

What's Going on With Ram? CEO Promises Turnaround
You will be forgiven for thinking Ram is down and out these days. The brand killed the Hemi V-8 that was a highlight of its 1500 full-size pickups, stopped building the affordable (but old) Ram Classic, and had a difficult launch of the Hemi-less 2025 Ram 1500 that included problems getting trims with all the bells and whistles out the door while also trying to start producing new Heavy Duties at the same plant. EV plans were pushed back, both for the range-extending Ramcharger and the entirely battery electric Ram 1500 REV. It adds up to a bad stretch for a brand critical to parent company Stellantis' U.S. fortunes. 0:00 / 0:00 Don't count the brand out yet, says Ram CEO Tim Kuniskis, the man who retired from Stellantis a year ago and returned in December to try to turn things around. The longtime executive returned after former Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares resigned and was exasperated at the botched Ram 1500 launch and high prices that were dragging down sales of a brand that had been flying high for years. The Fix Is In? Sales are better, he insists. With production volumes limited, the focus pivoted to fulfilling U.S. retail customers while foregoing fleet sales, especially to rental companies. The result: Retail sales were up 16 percent in the first quarter, will be closer to 40 percent higher in the second quarter, and likely will end the half about 25 percent up. At the same time, rental fleet sales will be down 90 percent. Losing the more affordable Ram Classic truck has hurt sales somewhat but there are plans to claw back some of those sales. But if anyone is expecting the return of a $40,000 stripped-down truck, those days are gone, Kuniskis says. With mandates and the tech needed, you can't strip a full-size truck down far enough and make money, he says. 'That's a midsize pickup,' he quips, and then says yes, a midsize to replace the Dakota is still in the plan but won't offer more detail right now. The 2026 Ram 1500 comes close to the old Classic's bogey, starting at $44,495. And there are 25 product and product-related announcements coming, the CEO says. EVs Will Come in Time And yes, EVs have been delayed. The Ramcharger goes into production later this year; the all-electric REV could arrive as late as summer 2027. The long-term commitment to these electrified trucks remains intact and Ram is enjoying the luxury of timing working in its favor. Being a bit of a laggard in the full-size electric pickup space allowed Ram to see how the forerunners were received. Executives watched the marketplace and saw prices increase and demand wane. Stellantis took advantage of Ram's tardiness to push back deadlines until a later date in the hopes profit margins on these products will improve. Bottom line: 'We have to get there,' Kuniskis says of EVs. Regulations and the need for compliance still exist despite some changes, so some form of electrification is needed. But the late launch will help the business case. 'We are able to delay until we can get a better margin.' Ram will still be first among a new crop to offer an extended-range EV (EREV) with the Ramcharger, which uses its gas engine only as a generator for its smaller-than-REV battery. (Vehicles that use the engine to power the wheels at all are considered to be plug-in hybrids, but the Ramcharger does not.) Everyone else will follow the Ramcharger's lead, Kuniskis says.

The USB-A port is limited to 22.5W. That's not bad at all, and it's nice to see that two of these ports can charge a laptop at the same time! It's still pretty small, and just like the Anker option above, it supports the PPS standard, which many newer smartphones require to reach max speeds. NYC snubbed on new ‘10 best hotels in the world' list compiled by expert travel reviewers
La Liste just revealed the top 10 best hotels in the world — and none of the luxury ones in New York made the elite list. With so many incredible travel destinations — it's hard to narrow down the best places to stay, but the Paris-based company known for its hotel and restaurant rankings took on the difficult task of doing just that. To compile this list, the site looked at 400 different hotel reviews given by press — which then went through an algorithm system to create a score on a 100-point scale, as explained by Bloomberg. 'We are a synthesis of all the rankings and ratings that we find knowledgeable,' Helene Pietrini, managing director of La Liste, told Bloomberg. As a result, 10 different hotels around the world all ranked No. 1 — six of them are in Europe, and none in the tri-state area. Who made the cut? 1. La Réserve Paris This 5-star hotel is one that tourists — and travel reviewers — can't get enough of. 'The property has exceptional service, some great food and beverage outlets, a pool and spa, and a beautiful historic design. If money is no object, it really is hard to choose between the top properties in Paris — it all depends on what part of town you prefer staying in, and what kind of vibe and design you like,' One Mile At A Time wrote. 2. With numerous delicious fine-dining options, the stunning pool, spacious rooms and suites, there is so much to adore about the legendary Peninsula Chicago.' 10. Rosewood Mayakoba, Playa del Carmen, Mexico This hotel is known for its modern rooms and quiet atmosphere with stunning views. 'A stay at Rosewood Mayakoba is just as much about luxury as it is about immersing oneself in the wilds of Mexico's Yucatán Peninsula,' Conde Nast Traveler wrote.
