Full Infrastructure Rollout for New Al-Sadr City Project

Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani chaired a meeting on Wednesday of the High Committee overseeing the New Al-Sadr City Project in Tuzai, issuing directives to implement all infrastructure components alongside the residential construction phases.
The meeting reviewed progress following the launch of service infrastructure works and examined the most efficient economic and urban planning models for the city's development. The initial phase includes 11,000 residential units, with detailed discussion on their architectural layout and distribution.
Major service components of the project were addressed, including: Location and integration of the city's power station into the national grid.
Development of water, sewage, and telecommunications networks, and their connection to existing systems.
Plans for road linkages to Baghdad, including access to the fourth and fifth ring roads and future Baghdad metro tracks.
Al-Sudani instructed that infrastructure works be carried out concurrently with all project components to ensure synchronised progress. He also ordered that a monthly progress report be submitted to his office, covering the full scope of the project.
The New Al-Sadr City initiative is one of Iraq's largest planned urban developments and is expected to ease housing pressure in Baghdad while improving urban connectivity.

Unprecedented water catastrophe threatens Basra
Shafaq News – Basra The Iraqi High Commission for Human Rights in Basra warned that the province is facing a 'water catastrophe' and worsening humanitarian conditions due to escalating water pollution. Mehdi al-Tamimi, director of the Commission's office in Basra, told Shafaq News Agency that the water crisis—marked by scarcity, salinity, and toxicity—has reached levels "unprecedented in any city in the world,' and demands an 'all-out governmental mobilization.' Iranian air defenses engage unidentified drones near Iraqi border
Shafaq News – Basra Iranian air defenses opened fire late Wednesday on unidentified drones near Abadan, close to the Iraqi border, a security source told Shafaq News. Footage obtained by our agency shows anti-aircraft units engaging three drones over the city. One reportedly crashed in Iraq's Al-Khurram area within the Al-Siba district, which borders Iran. A security official in Basra confirmed the authenticity of the footage, recorded by residents in Al-Siba, noting increased troop movements. 'The drone activity triggered alerts on the Iraqi side as well, with authorities tracking for any potential airspace breaches or escalation,' the source added. The incident comes just days after a fragile ceasefire between Iran and Israel, following a wave of missile exchanges and US airstrikes on Iran's Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan nuclear facilities.
