No one knows who this 'Hollywood star' is: Scottish family pose for photograph with 'famous actor' - and 25 years later still have NO idea who he is

Daily Mail22-05-2025

A bizarre encounter at a Hollywood film premier has now left film buffs baffled for a quarter of a decade - and internet sleuths are still no closer to solving the mystery.
The tale starts when a young Scottish woman was walking through the LA streets in 2000, when she suddenly came across the Grauman's Chinese Theatre - a venue made famous by the nearly 200 celebrity handprints and autographs immortalised in the concrete.
As she passed she saw a group of ladies clustered around a striking-looking man, all screaming 'We love you Sam!' as they pestered him with autograph books.
An opportunist - she got her own signature on a scrap of paper and even had a picture snapped as he beamed into the camera.
The American even chatted to her, asking if she had seen his new flick - to which she politely replied 'not yet'.
But when she took the photo home, she realised that she still had no idea who the man was.
There are no records of an actor under the name 'Sam Freedim', which is what the autograph appears to read, and even the most ardent cinephiles have been unable to identify the mystery man.
The woman's brother shared the snaps in 2022, posting: 'I'm a bit of a film buff and have no idea who the guy in the photos is. Every few years the subject pops up and it has me stumped.

'My sister had assumed he was something to do with Mission Impossible 2 film as there was lots of posters for that around but I think that's perhaps just a coincidence.'
The bewildering tale has been puzzled over by movie fans ever since it was first posted, with no one able to satisfy the group with a definitive answer.
Pictures from the event show film posters for Mission Impossible 2 - which was released in July 2000 and starred Tom Cruise alongside Thandiwe Newton and Brendan Gleeson.
Among the cast and crew there are only two male Sams, a model department runner and a production medic. No one has the word 'Free', which also appears to be in the autograph.
The young woman's brother speculated that the word 'Freedom' may have been added to the autograph because she was Scottish - as a reference to the cry of Braveheart star Mel Gibson.
In other photos, you can also see posters for The Perfect Storm - a disaster drama also released in 2000 which included George Clooney, Mark Wahlberg and Indiana Jones actress Karen Allen among its stars.
But among the male cast there was only a metal fabricator called Sam and a cg sequence superviser called Samir.
In the snaps the man can be seen surrounded by a huge crowd of fans, all reaching for the chance to meet him.
Wearing orange sunglasses, the chiseled hunk has slicked back, thick black hair and wears a dark blue v neck jumper.

He has a pronounced dimple on his chin, a Henry Cavill-esq jawline and a wide, open smile.
Wild guesses on the group have included Sam Raimi, the director of the Evil Dead franchise, Jeff Goldblum and even Sam Travolta - the brother of Grease star John.
Posters also claimed it could have been Greys Anatomy actor Josh Hopkins, who was in The Perfect Storm, while some speculated that it could have been JJ Abrams.
Others speculated that he may have been a cast member for a pop culture show such as the Bachelor, while still more joked that he may simply have been a handsome man in the right place at the right time - soaking up the attention.
The original poster, taking to the forum earlier this month, laughed: 'It's so annoying knowing my sister could have just asked someone who he was at the time!
'She did say that he asked her at the time if she had seen his film. She politely said 'not yet'.
'So it would suggest he is in movies but who knows!
'I've spent so long last time going though every Sam possible.
'I know I'm going to be lying on my death bed one day and this will be the thing that pops into my head.'

Annie Knight breaks down crying as she tearfully recalls horrific sexual assault ordeal: 'I started screaming'

Annie Knight broke down in tears on Tuesday as she recounted the horrifying moment she was allegedly assaulted by a male sex worker. The OnlyFans creator, 27, shared a video to TikTok explaining she was filming a collaboration video when her scene partner began to 'push her down'. Knight said the accused ignored the 'boundaries' she put in place before filming began, and would not allow her to get up when she tried to leave the situation. 'I literally can't believe what happened. Sorry. Give me a second, I'm just going to calm down,' Knight cried as she began her video. She went on to say she was filming a sex scene with someone who was a 'verified creator' but new and unknown in the industry. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. 'We were filming the scene. I very clearly laid down my boundaries about what I'm okay with. I told him I didn't want restraining of any kind,' she said. 'We get down to filming and straight away he is doing things I told him I don't want to do. 'I've been in a similar position before where I was like enough is enough and I pushed him off me and left. 'This time was different because I asked him multiple times to stop and he didn't.' Knight broke down in tears again as she said: 'So I was trying to get him off me and the more I was pushing him, the more he kept pushing me down... I couldn't get up.' Thankfully, Knight said she had a security guard waiting in another room as she had hired a two-bedroom apartment to film the content in. The male content creator was apparently unaware Knight had security, so the alleged assault was stopped when Knight 'screamed' for help. 'Luckily I had a security guard next door because I am so scared of this exact situation happening,' she said. 'When I started screaming, thankfully, I had someone who came in and got this guy off me.' Knight went on to caution other sex workers to 'please be safe' and 'make sure you always have someone close by' for protection. 'I was so naive in thinking that because I've been doing this for so long now that this kind of thing doesn't happen,' Knight continued. 'It is so ridiculous that I thought that, but I am so lucky I still had a security guard close by just in case.' Daily Mail Australia has reached out to Knight for further comment. Knight shot to fame online in recent years for sharing videos detailing her experiences as a sex worker. She has also received a slew of media attention for her various sex challenges, the most recent of which left her hospitalised when she slept with 583 men in a day. Professionally dubbed as 'Australia's Most Sexually Active Woman', Knight has said she earns up to $3.5 million a year on OnlyFans for her X-rated content. She also recently announced her engagement to Henry Brayshaw, son of sports commentator James Brayshaw.

Eva Longoria complains about ICE deportations and LA raids from her Spanish home after quitting 'dystopian' US

Eva Longoria went on a passionate message about the ongoing violence stemming from the demonstrations in Southern California - from what appeared to be the comfort of her Spanish mansion. Longoria, 50, spoke about the issue to her 10.6 million Instagram followers in an extended clip on Tuesday, admitting that while she was not physically in Los Angeles, her heart was with everyone impacted by the ongoing events. The stunning star - who played the role of Gabrielle Solis over 180 episodes of the popular ABC series Desperate Housewives from 2004–2012 - was seated in a room that appeared to be from her Spain home. Longoria said the unfolding events were 'hard to witness from afar. 'I can't imagine what it's like to be in Los Angeles right now,' the Corpus Christi, Texas-born star added. 'I can't believe it's happening in Austin, Texas. I can't believe it's happening all over the country. 'And the comments and people's reactions to it is really so surprising to me because it is un-American.' The Mexican-American actress said she was in the state of shock watching the events unfold, saying it went against the basic tenets America's forefathers laid out. 'We all can agree nobody wants criminals in our country, nobody wants rapists, nobody wants drug dealers, nobody wants bad actors in our country - that's not what's happening,' said the Golden Globe-nominated actress. Longoria said that President Donald Trump was overreaching in his actions, and had not stayed true to his campaign promise to deport only criminals. 'These roundups are happening in birthday parties, in elementary graduations, Home Depots - those are not criminals,' she said.

Sherri Shepherd FINALLY reveals star who allegedly grabbed her in confrontation at Denzel Washington's Othello

Sherri Shepherd is revealing the identity of the actress who allegedly accosted her at the opening night performance of Broadway's Othello back in March. The 58-year-old actress and comedian previously claimed earlier in March on her eponymous daytime talk show that an 'unnamed celebrity' had allegedly grabbed her arm and whipped her around to confront her over 'shady' comments they said she had made about them. However, the play's opening night — which stars Denzel Washington as Shakespeare's title character and Jake Gyllenhaal as Iago — provided cover for the unnamed actress, as there were plenty of stars in the audience, including Jennifer Lopez and Angela Bassett. But Shepherd claimed during a Breakfast Club interview on Tuesday that the woman who physically confronted her nearly three months earlier was the actress Nia Long, 54. Representatives for Long and Shepherd haven't yet responded to request for comment. 'It was Nia Long. I don't know who [she] had me confused with,' Sherri alleged. 'The only time I've ever talked about Nia is when she went through with her partner [when] there was infidelity.' View this post on Instagram A post shared by The Breakfast Club (@breakfastclubam) She was referring to a 2022 scandal in which Long's then-fiancé Ime Udoka, a former NBA player who was then the head coach of the Boston Celtics, was revealed to have had an affair with a female employee of the Celtics association. The team announced he was to be suspended for the entirety of the 2022–2023 season over the inappropriate relationship, and Long later criticized the Celtics for allegedly never contacting her to see how she was holding up after the team publicly confirmed her partner's affair. Shepherd said on Tuesday that she 'supported' Long's position during the infidelity ordeal, and she added that Long 'deserves to have a good man to be with her.' 'I have no idea who she thought was shading her, but it was not me,' she continued. 'I have no beef with Nia. I'm a fan of hers.' When Shepherd first revealed the negative with an actress, she said being grabbed and castigated in public left her feeling 'upset,' but she claimed she offered to meet with Long in the women's bathroom at intermission to hash out their differences. However, she allegedly waited 15 minutes in the restroom without Long ever showing up. 'You don't get to pull me and turn me around like we're in a doggone cartoon and then walk away,' Shepherd said on The Breakfast Club. But when she was asked why she would make public claims that could stir up more controversy for her, Shepherd said that coming clean also benefited her professionally. She clarified that she didn't initially mention Long's name, and said the other stars at opening night made it difficult to single out any star. But Shepherd said her other career as a stand-up comic benefits from the buzzy confrontation. 'Everything that happens in my life is material for me. And my stage, my comedy stage, is the talk show,' she explained. 'So I got on stage and I just talked about it, and I said, "You know, this happened."' She reiterated that she had invited Long on her talk show to discuss what had upset the actress, and she insisted that she doesn't 'like to tear down people.' 'I honestly was just confused,' the 30 Rock actress continued. 'And I also don't like when you touch me and you pull at me. I don't like that. She grabbed me and spun me around. '[But] I'm cool. I'm so cool. It's done,' she added. 'I would love to talk to her and just clear it up.' When Long was initially wrapped up in her former fiancé's cheating scandal, she was publicly supported by several celebrity friends, including Snoop Dogg, Community star Yvette Nicole Brown and the sports journalist and political commentator Jemele Hill. Long shares a 13-year-old son, Kez, with her ex Udoka, and she also has a 24-year-old son, Massai Zhivago Dorsey II, whom she shares with her ex, the actor Massai Z Dorsey, whom she dated from 1999 to 2001. The couple were engaged for 10 months before going their separate ways.
