Clippers' James Harden faces negligence accusation amid sexual assault lawsuit against nephew
Los Angeles Clippers star James Harden was accused of negligence as his nephew was sued over alleged sexual assault and rape that occurred at a New Year's Eve party in December 2024.
Marisa Watley accused Justice Armani Blackburn of sexual assault and rape in the lawsuit filed in Harris County, Texas. The lawsuit accused Harden of negligence "due to the conduct of his in-home security staff after the party," according to a news release from Wigdor Law.
A lawyer wasn't listed for Blackburn. Fox News Digital reached out to Harden's agency and the Clippers for comment.
Watley claimed that Harden's security team removed two of her friends who had attended the party at his home with her despite "their pleas that she was still inside." Watley's friends contacted her sister, Elaina, who then got in touch with Harden's sister — the mother of Blackburn. The lawsuit said that Elaina Watley was able to get a photo to Harden's security, but team members said there was a woman in the home with Blackburn, but the woman was not Marisa Watley.
The lawsuit alleged that if Harden's security team would have "acted responsibly," then they would have stopped the alleged rape.
"Since New Year's Day, when I reported the rape by Mr. Blackburn to the police, I have remained puzzled by how Mr. Harden's security behaved that day—it is painful to imagine that this all could have been stopped in time," Watley said in a statement. "I hope this complaint pushes security employees generally to act more responsibly when women are in danger."
Watley's lawyers said they plan to hold Blackburn and Harden accountable for their alleged actions.

Texas has not had a Heisman Trophy winner since Ricky Williams won it in 1998. Manning, the nephew of former NFL quarterbacks Eli and Peyton Manning, has waited out his opportunity to take over the Longhorns offense on a full-time basis each of the last two seasons as he served as the backup to Quinn Ewers, who was taken in the seventh round of the NFL draft by the Miami Dolphins. The 6-foot-4 quarterback, however, hasn't had to sit in the passenger seat that whole time, especially this past season. Manning showed flashes of his dual-threat skill set and passing acumen in 2024 for the Longhorns, as he started two games for Texas when Ewers was out with an injury and came on in short-yardage situations late in the season. In 10 games this past season for Texas, Manning completed 67.8% of his passes for 939 yards and nine touchdowns while rushing for 108 yards and four touchdowns on 25 carries — an unusual sight for a member of the Manning family. In his first career start vs. UTSA on Sept. 14, Manning became the only FBS or NFL quarterback in the last 25 years to record a 75+ yard touchdown pass, a 65-yard rushing touchdown and another 50+ yard touchdown pass in the same game according to OptaStats. 2 Texas Tech Officers Ambushed In Campus Shooting, Suspect Killed
A routine check on a suspicious vehicle turned violent early Tuesday when two Texas Tech University police officers were ambushed in a campus parking lot near the Jones AT&T Stadium. The suspect opened fire on the duo, injuring both officers, before the officers returned fire, killing the suspect on scene. The officers, who sustained non-life-threatening injuries, were transported to the University Medical Center, authorities confirmed. Their names, as well as that of the deceased gunman, have not yet been released, as of time of publication. The Lubbock Metropolitan Special Crimes Unit is listed as leading the investigation. According to the Texas Municipal Police Association, the officers were 'ambushed' during what began as a standard safety check, a reminder of the dangers law enforcement officers face daily while protecting the public. 'This is the daily reality for Texas law enforcement. We stand with the wounded. We honor the brave,' The TMPA posted to X on Tuesday morning. The officers' quick response to the shooter on Tuesday morning may have prevented a more tragic outcome for the Texas Tech Campus, and their bravery is being complimented by politicians and locals alike. 'My heart is with the Texas Tech Police Department and the two officers injured this morning. While I am relieved to hear their injuries are non-life-threatening, please join me in praying for their speedy recovery,' Rep. Jodey Arrington (R-TX), who represents Lubbock County and is a Texas Tech alum, posted. 'I am grateful for all who wear the badge and defend our communities – this is another reminder of the risks they take to keep us safe,' Arrington added. The incident has also reignited discussion about gun laws on college campuses. Texas law currently allows those with a valid license to carry concealed firearms at public universities. Clippers' James Harden sued for alleged negligence in sexual assault case against his nephew
James Harden has been accused of negligence in a civil complaint filed in Harris County, Texas, that says the Los Angeles Clippers guard is 'vicariously liable for the actions of his [security] guards and their corporate employer." According to The Athletic, the complaint against Harden also includes allegations of sexual assault against his nephew, Justin Armani Blackburn. Advertisement The basis of the complaint comes from an alleged incident that happened at Harden's Houston home during a New Year's party. Marisa Watley, the plaintiff, alleges that Blackburn raped her while she was unconscious. Watley, who is demanding a jury trial and economic, compensatory and punitive damages, also alleges that Harden's security staff were negligent. Per the lawsuit, Watley and two of her friends attended the New Year's party after being out at a Houston strip club. When the three women learned about the party at Harden's home, they took an Uber there before being invited into Harden's "studio." It was there that Blackburn allegedly offered them a drink from a bottle before the three passed out. The women got into contact with Watley's sister, who managed to get in touch with Harden's sister, the mother of Blackburn. The sister sent a photo of Watley to Harden's security team who, according to the complaint, told her that the woman inside the home was not Watley. 'Since New Year's Day, when I reported the rape by Mr. Blackburn to the police, I have remained puzzled by how Mr. Harden's security behaved that day — it is painful to imagine that this all could have been stopped in time," said Watley in a statement released. "I hope this complaint pushes security employees generally to act more responsibly when women are in danger.' Representatives of Harden's declined comment when reached by The Athletic. Harden, 35, played the past two seasons with the Clippers. He played for the Houston Rockets from 2012-2021. He is eligible to be an unrestricted free agent this summer should he choose to opt out of his current contract.
