Slot machine scam, North Carolina men charged with computer crimes

Prosecutors say three men are accused of using a jamming device on slot machines in a West Allis Bar.

Groups of people, mainly from North Carolina, have been using jamming devices at both Milwaukee County and suburban bars.
WEST ALLIS, Wis. - Slot machines are supposed to be games of chance, but prosecutors accuse several people of trying to game the system across counties.
"When the machine 'went down' after they broke it, and found out I was coming, they left," said Jake Sibler, owner of the Network Bar.

"This is the second time I've had a problem with this. Somebody else tried to come in and print their own receipt. But that did not work out," Sibler added. "This is the first time this has actually happened to me."
What we know
Last Wednesday night, April 9, prosecutors say three men and a woman came into the bar.
Two of the men went to machines, while the third and the woman started a fight.
As it was going on, one of the men said he wanted to cash out, while a second man said the machine froze.
"I told her to keep them there, pay them. $100 is worth catching these guys, if this is the crew that's been doing this," said Sibler.
"This is a first. I don't think I've seen this charge before. But I've been educated today," said Milwaukee County Circuit Court Commissioner Barry Phillips.
Three men - all from North Carolina - are charged with felony computer crimes, accused of using or being part of a scheme to use devices to add credits to slot machines and then steal fake winnings.
West Allis police say jamming devices were found in Montare Goodman's rental vehicle.
"It's akin to a smoking gun," added Phillips.
West Allis police say groups of people from out of state, primarily North Carolina, have been using jamming devices at both Milwaukee County and suburban bars.
Earlier in April, prosecutors in Waukesha County say two men, Erik Nelson and Lamar McCaskill, stole thousands of dollars from at least three Muskego locations, including a bowling alley and two bars.

Muskego police say a second defendant, Lamar McCaskill, is on the run.

Two men charged in Milwaukee County haven't made their first court appearances.
Goodman's bond is set at $7,500. He's due back in court next week.

The jury of nine women and three men found Anderson guilty of first-degree intentional homicide, mutilating a corpse, hiding a corpse and arson of property other than a building. "We had a big decision to make today, and there was a lot of momentum leading up to this." Because it was such a high-profile case, the juror said she was not comfortable going on camera. "The decision was easy, especially after that mic drop yesterday seeing those pictures," she said in reference to key evidence presented on Thursday. That evidence included graphic photos, which the state said showed Robinson partially undressed and face down on what looked like Anderson's couch. "That's what I went home thinking about last night. He grabbed her right breast, that right breast has not been recovered, he was taking pictures to look back later at it," the juror said. The juror said, beyond the evidence and testimony, much more was going on behind the scenes. "There was knife found in the courtroom, under his chair, at some point this week," she said. "That happened, the judge told us." The juror also told FOX6 that an internal investigation determined the knife potentially belonged to one of the courthouse cleaning staff, but that's not all. "We actually got some insight on that from the detectives," she said. "They're still actively looking into him, so it will be interesting to see the snowball effect from that in the future. As for the outcome of the Anderson case, the juror said justice was served. "Sade, she didn't anticipate any of this, obviously, but she was just going on a date. She was 19. Hillsborough County deputies make arrests in shooting that injured teen
The Brief Deputies with the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office have made arrests in connection with a shooting that injured a teenager on Wednesday. Detectives said they found evidence connected to the shooting inside a bedroom belonging to a 17-year-old and an 18-year-old. A 38-year-old man was also arrested for driving with a suspended license when deputies said they found him driving the vehicle linked to the suspected shooter. PROGRESS VILLAGE, Fla. - Two teenage felons have been arrested in connection with a shooting that injured a teenager on Wednesday. The backstory According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office, deputies went to the area of South 81st Street and Fir Drive shortly before 12:40 p.m. after receiving multiple 911 calls regarding a shooting. Upon arrival, deputies found a teenager suffering from a gunshot wound. He was taken to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. When they pulled the vehicle over, deputies said the driver, Antonio House, 38, was taken into custody for driving on a suspended license. According to HCSO, a Glock .40 caliber handgun recovered from inside the home was ballistically matched to the casings recovered at the scene of the shooting. Both were taken into custody. The 17-year-old has been charged with felon in possession of a firearm, felon in possession of ammunition and resisting an officer without violence. House was charged with attempted second-degree murder, aggravated battery great bodily harm or deadly weapon firearm, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, felon in possession of a firearm, felon in possession of ammunition and resisting an officer without violence. Menomonee Falls FedEx gunfire, man charged with attempted homicide
The Brief Prosecutors said a man shot at a manager at the Menomonee Falls FedEx facility. The 19-year-old is now charged with attempted homicide and misdemeanor battery. Court filings said the gunfire stemmed from an argument and fight. MENOMONEE FALLS, Wis. - A man is accused of attempted homicide after prosecutors say he shot at a manager during a fight at the Menomonee Falls FedEx facility on Monday. In Court Prosecutors charged 19-year-old DeAnthony Leflore with attempted first-degree intentional homicide and misdemeanor battery. His bond was set at $200,000 on Friday. A criminal complaint states callers reported Leflore had fired a gun, but no one was shot. When police got there, court filings said a security worker informed them that Leflore was no longer in the facility's gated area. It was unclear where Leflore went, and officers searched for but did not find him. What they're saying Prosecutors said a manager told investigators that Leflore arrived at the facility around 2:30 a.m. – an hour before his shift – and was unable to scan his badge and get inside. He was told to go home because he wasn't allowed to start early. Leflore later made a comment that the manager took "to mean (Leflore) was going to shoot her," per the complaint, before he left. The manager then told security not to let him in "because of his escalating behavior." Leflore and the manager who had previously sent him home then got into an argument, and that manager told him to leave "because of his earlier behavior." Court filings said Leflore then asked that manager if he was fired or not before saying, "I'm finna force it," and repeatedly punching the manager in the face. The manager said she bit Leflore's hand and pulled his hair to try to get him off of her, and another manager came over to separate them. Leflore then ran toward a fence that separates the main facility from the parking lot, per the complaint. He grabbed a gun from a backpack and pointed it at the manager. The victim said she saw a laser sight affixed to the gun, and she saw the point of the laser on her chest before Leflore said: "(Expletive) I'll pop you." The victim said she then heard gunshots as she ran, but she was not hit. The complaint states police found a bullet casing and some of Leflore's hair, which was ripped out during the struggle, at the scene. A security worker said he saw the fight and saw Leflore holding a gun with a laser sight that "appeared" to be pointed at the victim. He heard one gunshot and called 911. Additional witnesses also said they saw Leflore with a gun. Surveillance video showed the fight, according to court filings, during which Leflore went to the fence line and picked up what appeared to be a gun before pointing it at the victim. One gunshot was heard as everyone ran from the area. Additional video showed Leflore walking away with a gun "clearly" tucked in the front of his waistband.
