Amid $1.3 Trillion Global Climate Adaptation Surge, India Emerges as a $24 Billion Opportunity: BCG Report

Hans India07-05-2025

As climate risks grow, a new investment frontier is emerging -- resilience. The need for climate adaptation and resilience (A&R) solutions is rising fast. Yet despite growing demand, private investment in A&R remains limited. A new report from Boston Consulting Group (BCG) and Temasek, The Private Equity Opportunity in Climate Adaptation and Resilience highlights a timely and compelling opportunity for private equity to lead the next wave of growth and impact.
The report projects that global demand for climate A&R solutions could reach $0.5 to $1.3 trillion by 2030. This opens a vast, largely untapped opportunity for private capital to invest in emerging value pools, from flood defense and wildfire protection to climate intelligence, and water efficiency technologies.
'Emerging markets, and India in particular, are at the forefront of climate vulnerability, therefore offering Climate Adaptation and Resilience opportunity for the Private Equity Industry. From the growing demand for stormwater drainage infrastructure and climate-resilient building materials to the rising adoption of abiotic stress-protection in agriculture, India is witnessing the formation of distinct value pools. The private equity ecosystem has an opening to scale solutions that combine strong unit economics with real-world resilience outcomes—whether it's in advanced water metering, tech-enabled EMS services, or bio-stimulant agri-inputs. As regulations and public procurement accelerate, the case for investing in India's climate resilience story is not just compelling—it's actionable.', said Kanchan Samtani, APAC Leader – Corporate Finance & Strategy & India Leader – Principal Investors & Private Equity, BCG.
Key findings from the report include:
CURRENT INVESTMENT: Despite the scale of existing need, the current global spending on A&R solutions is only estimated at $76 billion per year, and the vast majority stems from public sources. To meet the rising needs by 2030, there is an opportunity for private investment in the current gap.
HIGH-GROWTH SECTORS: Amongst many A&R opportunities, six example subsectors whereby private equity may deploy capital with double-digit growth rates, strong EBITDA margins (up to 30-40%), and increasing deal activity: climate intelligence solutions, resilient building materials, flood defenses, water efficiency, agricultural inputs, and emergency medical services.
INVESTMENT ARCHETYPES: Climate A&R companies span both early-stage pure plays and diversified incumbents where A&R is a growing revenue stream. While often seen as a startup space, the report surfaces a broader range of investable targets—opening the door to venture, growth, and buyout strategies across the spectrum.

From trading floors to retail loans, traditional banks lose ground to tech-savvy challengers: BCG

Traditional banks are struggling to keep pace with fast-moving, tech-driven financial rivals, even as the overall financial services sector continues to grow. This is the central finding of Boston Consulting Group's latest Future of Finance report. 'Financial services revenues are growing – but banks are not capturing their fair share,' BCG says. The report observes that value is shifting away from traditional banks to fintechs, private credit funds, non-bank liquidity providers, and digital-native banks. 'Maturing digital assets appear to be on pace to cause significant disruption, with most banks currently on the outside looking in,' it adds. Digital attacker banks have seen the highest growth among financial players. According to BCG, these banks have recorded revenue compound annual growth rates (CAGR) of 85–100% over the past five years. They are followed closely by private credit players and retail trading platforms. In contrast, traditional banks have posted revenue CAGR of just 10–15%, even though they still hold the largest share of balance-sheet assets. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Esse novo alarme com câmera é quase gratuito em Guarujá (consulte o preço) Alarmes Undo The advantage of these challenger firms lies in their use of scalable platforms, lean cost structures, and digital-first models. 'Non-traditional bank competitors are generating new revenue pools,' BCG says. 'The best attackers are positioned for rapid growth, thanks to modern technology stacks and front-to-back digitised operating models.' The disruption is not limited to retail finance . In capital markets too, boutique advisory firms and non-bank market makers are steadily eating into the fee income of large banks. 'Private credit has been gnawing away at bank share, particularly in the US,' the report says. Live Events Traditional banks are also facing deep-rooted structural challenges. Their fee income is declining. Productivity from non-interest income has dropped across all regions. Meanwhile, cost pressures continue to rise. Despite having invested in technology for years, their efficiency gains are starting to slow. 'Many banks struggle to counter these trends,' BCG says. The report also points out that pricing remains an underused tool for improving performance. The difference in cost efficiency is stark. According to the report, the cost-to-serve for neobanks is often only one-tenth that of traditional banks. 'New competitors are winning on productivity,' BCG says. Investors, too, are taking note of this growing gap. In regions such as East Asia and the Eurozone, most bank stocks are now trading below their book value. 'Investors are avoiding banks that may be in a vicious cycle of outdated operating model and low profitability,' BCG warns.

Technology Startup 'Resollect' Secures Funding to Transform India's Debt Recovery Landscape

PNN New Delhi [India], June 5: NPAs have been impacting the growth and profitability of India's banking sector. With more than 80% of SARFAESI cases disputed by borrowers and recovery timelines running into several years, financial institutions have been stuck in an inefficient loop that technology startup 'Resollect' hopes to solve. Manually and branch-dependent processes not only breed inefficiencies in debt recovery but also leave banks vulnerable to huge regulatory risks due to compliance gaps. Over 40% of delayed cases could be processed just through the availability of automated workflows tracking actions and ensuring compliance, a bottleneck costing the industry millions every year. Abhishek Rao, former consultant with the Boston Consulting Group and distressed investment professional saw the magnitude of this underserved market. Having seen firsthand how NPAs are managed by banks that have little or no technology integration, he seized a huge opportunity to revolutionize the space through automation and data-driven solutions. "Current workflows in handling NPAs are fundamentally flawed," says Abhishek, an industry expert who also happens to be the All India Rank 2 holder in the Chartered Accountancy examinations. "Banks rely on Excel spreadsheets and manual procedures for something that ought to be highly automated and compliance-driven. This increases operational costs and also diminishes recovery efficiency." Abhishek's 'Resollect' is the ultimate solution but in the approach of debt recovery by institutions. This AI-powered platform creates an integrated ecosystem for banks, legal teams, and recovery agencies, automating complex recovery processes while keeping full regulatory compliance. While current solutions mainly focus on early bucket collections, 'Resollect' takes on the much tougher late-stage recovery and secured lending management. The platform's approach is indeed holistic, covering all the NPA lifecycle stages-from pre-collection risk assessment to post-write-off recovery plans. AI-driven segmentation and risk ranking allow lenders to detect imminent problem loans well before they become critical. The system's automated workflow capabilities eliminate many manual tasks, up to 60%, whereas real-time tracking ensures that no case slips through administrative cracks. What differentiates 'Resollect' from other fintechs is its focus on a truly underserved market segment. Existing technology solutions in the financial services space primarily focus on consumer lending or early-stage collections; Abhishek and his team built specialized tools for the nuanced space of secured lending and agency management within post-NPA workflows. A perfect illustration of this strategic approach is the strategy builder tool within the platform, which enables institutions to craft, implement, and fine-tune recovery strategies using an intuitive drag-and-drop interface. Ready-made templates alongside customizable parts guarantee fulfillment of even the most intricate regulatory demands while keeping the operation effective. The system will automatically generate triggers for specific intervals and standardize processes to perpetually comply with RBI and SARFAESI requirements. Abhishek's vision has recently been validated with a pre-seed funding round led by the well-known venture capital firm Antler, along with strategic angel investors such as senior chartered accountant Mr. Sudhir Prabhu and others. This fund will help 'Resollect' improve product offerings and broaden service capabilities in the niche NPA management space. "What truly stood out to us about Resollect was not just the scale of the opportunity, but the sharp clarity of the team's vision. They're addressing one of the most intricate and underserved challenges in lending with a highly strategic, tech-powered approach. By seamlessly connecting fragmented players, from NBFCs and recovery agencies to auction participants, Resollect is building the foundation for a more transparent, efficient, and scalable recovery ecosystem. The team's deep industry expertise and hands-on operational experience give them a unique competitive edge, and we're confident they are well-positioned to become a key enabler of India's financial infrastructure," says Nitin Sharma, Partner at Antler in India. The impact of such technological intervention is realized not just in operational efficiency but also in recovery outcomes. Industry statistics indicate that a best-recovery process can drive costs down by nearly 30% while bottom-line performance gets boosted by 2% and lending capacity increases by another 8%. In an industry that plays with thousands of crores in distressed assets, these tweaks translate into massive economic benefits. 'Resollect' offers a rich functionality for all the pain points experienced with traditional recovery processes. With automated notice generation, there is no room for error in compliance. Structured updates along with order summaries are provided through real-time tracking of cases. Recovery marketplace within the platform connects institutions to verified legal vendors and recovery agents, thereby automating task delegation and performance evaluation. Such demand will only grow for innovative NPA management solutions as India's financial sector continues to evolve and the regulatory framework becomes increasingly complex.
