Wes Anderson's new film takes over Alamo Drafthouse

Axios4 days ago

Wes Anderson's latest film, "The Phoenician Scheme," is taking over Alamo Drafthouse this month with an immersive experience featuring his signature visual aesthetic.
State of play: The pop-up includes installations from the film, props and exclusive merchandise. Three themed cocktails are available to sip on while you watch, including the "Espresso Human Rights" with tequila, cold brew liqueur and almond orgeat, and the "Richest Man" with gin, creme de cassis and lemon.
Catch up quick: The midcentury tale centers around Anatole "Zsa-Zsa" Korda (Benicio Del Toro), an affluent European businessman who survives various assassination attempts.
Korda — grappling with his mortality — attempts to reconnect with his estranged daughter Liesl (Mia Threapleton), a young nun who he names as the heir to his estate. Together, they embark on a whimsical adventure filled with absurd escapades and international conspiracies.
Our thought bubble: Apart from being a beautifully shot and artistically captivating film, Nadia loves the endearing storyline about a father and daughter reconciling.
Claire calls it peak Wes Anderson, with quirky characters, dense dialogue, and enough stylized symmetry and midcentury color grading to send film buffs into fits.

Warner Bros. Discovery Stock Enjoys Big Jump, Then Promptly Fades After Split Announcement

Warner Bros. Discovery's plan to split into two publicly traded companies sent its stock price surging higher on Monday morning, with shares of WBD jumping 13% to $11.10 on the Nasdaq exchange only minutes after the opening bell. Those early gains started to fade by midday, though, with Warner Bros. Discovery's stock trading for $9.94 per share at 1 p.m. ET — up 1.30% from where it closed last week. Here is an up-to-the-minute look at WBD: On the year, WBD is down 6%, and the company's stock price has been more than sliced in half since it debuted on the Nasdaq in 2022 for $24.08 per share. That came after WarnerMedia and Discovery merged — a move that was met with a collective shrug from Wall Street analysts and investors from the start, with its stock price increasing 0.8% on April 11, 2022, its first day of trading. Now, three years later, WBD announced on Monday it will split into two companies, with one company focused on its global cable channels and another dedicated to its movie and streaming businesses. David Zaslav, president and CEO of WBD, will become president and CEO of Streaming & Studios, while Gunnar Wiedenfels, WBD's CFO, will serve as president and CEO of Global Networks. The separation is expected to be completed by mid-2026. 'By operating as two distinct and optimized companies in the future, we are empowering these iconic brands with the sharper focus and strategic flexibility they need to compete most effectively in today's evolving media landscape,' Zaslav said in a statement. The new Streaming & Studios operation will consist of Warner Bros. Television, Warner Bros. Motion Picture Group, DC Studios, HBO and HBO Max, in addition to their corresponding film and television libraries. Global Networks, meanwhile, will include international entertainment, sports and TV news brands such as CNN, TNT Sports, Discovery, Discovery+, Bleacher Report and European free-to-air channels. In related news, WBD investors last week voted to reject a $51.9 million compensation package for Zaslav. The post Warner Bros. Bruce Springsteen Drops ‘Land of Hope & Dreams' EP Featuring Speech That Set Off President Trump

Bruce Springsteen is doubling down on his stance that the United States government is 'corrupt, incompetent and treasonous,' even after his remarks on the subject at a Manchester concert infuriated President Donald Trump last week. One week after criticizing the Trump administration during a speech at his European tour kickoff show in England — leading the twice-impeached POTUS to launch into a series of vitriolic posts targeting him on Truth Social — the Boss has released a Land of Hope & Dreams EP featuring a recording of the address as its opening track. 'In my home, the America I love, the America I've written about, and has been a beacon of hope and liberty for 250 years, is currently in the hands of a corrupt, incompetent and treasonous administration,' he says in the audio snippet. 'Tonight, we ask all who believe in democracy and the best of our American experience to rise with us, raise your voices against the authoritarianism, and let freedom ring.' In addition to the politically charged speech, the six-track project also features live takes of the musician and his band performing 'Long Walk Home,' 'My City of Ruins' and 'Chimes of Freedom' in Manchester. There's also a three-and-a-half-minute recording of Springsteen once again critiquing the state of American politics later in the show. 'In my country, they're taking sadistic pleasure in the pain that they inflict on American workers, they're rolling back historic civil rights legislation that led to a more just and moral society,' he says in the clip. 'They're abandoning our great allies and siding with dictators against those struggling for their freedom.' The EP comes shortly after Trump responded to Springsteen's onstage remarks by calling him 'highly overrated' and 'dumb as a rock' on Truth Social, adding at the time, 'This dried out 'prune' of a rocker (his skin is all atrophied!) ought to KEEP HIS MOUTH SHUT until he gets back into the Country, that's just 'standard fare.'' Later, the billionaire accused the 'Born in the U.S.A.' singer — along with Beyoncé, Oprah and Bono — of taking part in an 'illegal election scam' for Kamala Harris, alleging that he accepted an undisclosed payment from the 2024 Democratic nominee to endorse her for president. (Campaign finance records do not support this claim, and Harris' campaign has denied paying any artist for their support in last year's election.) Trump still hadn't let the matter go as of Wednesday, when he shared an edited video of himself golfing — and appearing to hit and knock over Springsteen with his ball — on Truth Social hours after the Land of Hope & Dreams EP dropped. But despite Trump's counters, Springsteen hasn't ever backed down on his firm stance against the president's policies. The E Street bandleader has long been vocal about his beliefs, telling The Atlantic in 2020 that he believed Trump — who in May 2024 was convicted of 34 felony counts in a hush money trial — to be a 'threat to our democracy.' Also in 2024, Springsteen proudly endorsed Harris and played at a number of her campaign events. He also appeared in an advertisement for the former VP's campaign, telling viewers, 'This election is about a group of folks who want to fundamentally undermine our American way of life … Donald Trump does not understand this country, its history, or what it means to be deeply American.' 8-Day-Old Maine Coon Kitten with 6 Toe Beans Has Everyone Obsessed

8-Day-Old Maine Coon Kitten with 6 Toe Beans Has Everyone Obsessed originally appeared on Parade Pets. Maine Coon kittens start out just looking like regular kittens. Before they become 20+ pound messes of fluff and attitude, they're just little balls of goo. Like every other cat, they start out teeny-tiny, eyes closed, totally helpless. It's precious. Recently, we got to see one itty-bitty Maine Coon kitten with some extra "toe beans," and it just made him even cuter than he already is. His feet are already huge and he's barely even opened his eyes: Black Diamond Maine Coons specializes in a very specific type of Maine Coon, but sometimes, their cats are a little extra special. The extra beans on this boy are so cute!Black Diamond Maine Coons specializes in European style Maine Coon, and a lot of their cats are the smoky grey/black color you see in this video. They do occasionally have an orange or a cream-colored litter, though, and those kittens are just out of this world. Not all of their cats are polydactyl, meaning they have at least one extra toe, but this one is! He's got six toe beans on each foot, which is just about the funniest thing. He's so tiny, yet his feet are so large! As he grows, his feet are going to be slapping against the floor! Polydactyly in Maine Coons isn't rare by any means: in fact, it's something that some people even specifically breed for. Having the extra toe beans doesn't hurt the cat and isn't linked to any major issues as the cat ages. However, it is technically considered a defect, and breeding for those is controversial. An estimated 40% of Maine Coons, European or otherwise, are polydactyl. It's a dominant gene, so once a parent has it, there's a good chance some of their kittens will, too! If you have a polydactyl Maine Coon, there's nothing you really need to do except get ready for some big stomps. This kitten's feet are already so huge, I hope we'll get to see them when he grows up! I just know they're going to be huge! 🐶🐾🐾 8-Day-Old Maine Coon Kitten with 6 Toe Beans Has Everyone Obsessed first appeared on Parade Pets on Jun 9, 2025 This story was originally reported by Parade Pets on Jun 9, 2025, where it first appeared.
