BREAKING NEWS Sacked Premier League referee David Coote is charged by the FA after X-rated rant that saw him brand Jurgen Klopp a 'German ****'

Daily Mail7 hours ago

Former Premier League referee David Coote has been charged by the FA over his rant aimed at Jurgen Klopp.
Coote was sacked in December after a video emerged of him bashing former Liverpool boss Klopp, and a separate clip appeared to show him snorting a white powder in a hotel room while he was officiating at last summer's Euros.
The astonishing initial video surrounding Klopp, which went viral on social media, appeared to show Coote looking worse for wear as he delivered an explicit rant about the Merseyside club.
'Liverpool were s***,' said the man alleged to be Coote in the video. '(Klopp is a) ****, absolute ****. Aside from having a right pop at me when I was refereeing them against Burnley in lockdown, he accused me of lying and then had a right f***ing pop of me.
'I have no interest in speaking to someone who is f***ing arrogant. So I do my best not to speak to him. (James) Milner is all right, I get on with him. You can see me there with a 'mask' on. But, my god, German ****, f*** me.' In a second video, he added: 'Just to be clear, that f***ing last video cannot go anywhere, seriously.'
The FA have now revealed that Coote has been charged with a breach of FA Rule E3.

A regulation and discipline update provided by the body read: 'David Coote has been charged with a breach of FA Rule E3 in relation to comments that he made about Jurgen Klopp in a video recorded around July 2020 which appeared on social media in November 2024.
'It's alleged that the referee acted in an improper manner and/or abusive and/or insulting words contrary to FA Rule E3.1.'
The PGMOL found Coote's actions made his position as a Premier League official 'untenable' and the organisation headed up by Howard Webb terminated his employment with immediate effect late last year.
Coote was then handed a 16-month ban by UEFA in February for violating 'the basic rules of decent conduct' and bringing 'the sport of football, and UEFA in particular, into disrepute'.
Coote has rarely been seen in public since, but a report in The Sun earlier this month showed the former official enjoying a surprise new career.
Coote has reportedly started working for the delivery company near his home in Newark in Nottinghamshire and opened up on his new role.
'I'm just trying to make an honest living,' he said. 'I want to get on with my life. I'm trying to move forwards and regain a sense of responsibility and purpose. The job is keeping me busy and occupied, it's not a new long-term career.

Liverpool owners FSG considering massive deal with Michael Edwards involved

FSG, the owners of Liverpool, could gollow the example of some other Premier League clubs' ownership groups and invest in another club in one of Europe's big five leagues Liverpool owners FSG are considering a swoop to buy La Liga club Getafe. The Boston-based group are looking to build a multi-club profile in football with Michael Edwards a key man in the project. The Reds are now assessing the Madrid-based club after looking at Bordeaux and Malaga in the past. The club is currently improving their Estadio Coliseum ground and could be open to selling in the near future. ‌ A spokesperson for FSG said: 'FSG routinely engages in conversations and evaluates opportunities across global sports, a common process to assess ventures that align with the organisation's strategic priorities.' ‌ Liverpool could use relationships with other clubs to help with the development of players in the way Manchester City has with City Football Group, which owns numerous clubs around the world. How far the Reds will cast their net is unknown at this stage but it is clear they are looking to start with one club and the La Liga outfit, who finished 13th last season, are of serious interest. Edwards' involvement comes more than a year after he returned to Anfield. The former sporting director came back as chief executive officer of football, linking up with the club's current sporting director Richard Hughes. "It was vital for me that, if I did return, it had to be with renewed vigour and energy. In practice, this means having fresh challenges and opportunities," Edwards said in 2024 when his return was confirmed "As such, one of the biggest factors in my decision is the commitment to acquire and oversee an additional club, growing this area of their organisation. I believe that to remain competitive, investment and expansion of the current football portfolio is necessary. Getafe only won promotion to La Liga for the first time in 2004, but have been near ever-presents since. They were relegated in 2016 but bounced straight back, and haven't finished lower than 15th since climbing back to the top flight. ‌ The club welcomed Pepe Bordalas back for a second spell as manager in 2023. finishing 12th in the 2023-24 season and 13th last term. They also reached the quarter-finals of last season's Copa Del Rey, losing to Atletico Madrid. If Liverpool's owners complete a deal for Getafe, they would join a number of Premier League rivals with multi-club ownership interests. Chelsea owners BlueCo added French side Strasbourg to their portfolio in 2023, while City Football Group have several clubs across multiple continents, including Manchester City, Girona and New York City FC. FSG already own teams in other sports, and owned the Boston Red Sox before completing their Liverpool takeover. They agreed to buy the Premier League club from previous owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett back in 2010. Join our new WhatsApp community and receive your daily dose of Mirror Football content. Jamie Vardy handed Rangers transfer pitch as Poku tunes out ominous £10m jab and Toffolo opens door

Russell Martin is just days away from holding his first pre-season training session with Lyall Cameron the only new arrival so far Paul Dickov has challenged Jamie Vardy to make a move to "giant" Rangers to spearhead a bid to dethrone Celtic. The Light Blues are said to be among the club chasing the 38-year-old after his Leicester City exit with the new owners eyeing a landmark deal. ‌ Russell Martin is leading the American revolution at Ibrox from the dugout - and former Foxes' forward Dickov has guaranteed the veteran forward would be a "hit" under the boss in the Scottish Premiership. ‌ Speaking to Filbert Way, he said: "Jamie Vardy's got a lot to give. You've seen him at the end of last season, still running around as if he was 25 years old, still scoring goals. "So I think people look at his age and everything else, but he's still got a lot of football and a lot of goals in him. Whether that's the Premier League, who knows? "But definitely if it's a Championship or Scottish Premiership team, he'd be a hit. I think he would be a big success in Scotland, no doubt about it. "Playing for a giant like Rangers, blue jersey, it would be a good signing for them. I'm sure he's got a lot of offers and they are probably at home and abroad as well. "I think he'll be able to take his pick. Maybe he'll want an entirely new challenge, to take his family abroad for a couple of years. "Perhaps he'll want to drop to the Championship and take a club back to the Premier League. Moving to Rangers, there's the challenge of taking on Celtic. It all depends on what's going to motivate him next." ‌ Kwame Poku also looks to be inching closer to a move to Ibrox as the 23-year-old approaches the end of his Peterborough contract. Posh director of football Barry Fry has revealed he previously commanded a £5million and £5million in add-ons for the forward who is set to leave for a minimal fee. Should Poku move outside of England, a compensation fee under the lower rate FIFA guidelines would be due to the club due to cross-border rules. ‌ Peterborough owner Darragh MacAnthony told Poku to 'listen to common sense' and sign for an unnamed Championship club as he vented his frustration over the prospect of a cut-price payment. Speaking on his podcast, The Hard Truth, MacAnthony said: 'We know Kwame has been offered an absolute blockbuster move to a top, top club in England. I don't know what he's thinking or what he's waiting for. ‌ 'His agent is a big agent who represents Man United players. I think he'll rip it up in the Championship. Unless a Premier League club has come in, I don't know. 'Obviously if he ***** us and goes to Europe, I'd be furious, because I know he'll earn more and be in the Premier League in a year. 'I think a player like him disappears in Europe. If he goes to Europe, he disappears. That's his career. ‌ 'We took a chance and developed him. If he listens to common sense – and I hope his agent talks common sense because it's about him and not his agent – the best club for him is the one I know that's in for him because he'll be their stand-out player. 'And that club, we will talk to them if he does sign for them and I think common sense will meet.' Nottingham Forest left-back Harry Toffolo has named as a target after leaving the club as a free agent. ‌ And after leaving the club as a free agent, the 29-year-old has thrown the door open to an offer from Govan. He told Forest Focus: "My agent has actually left me to it whilst I've been on holiday. ‌ "He wants me to go and enjoy my time away, which he's done respectfully. Now I'm back, I'm going to get my teeth into some bits. "There's been a lot of conversations held with many clubs. So it's going to be an interesting summer. "It's going to be an exciting summer. Not a clue where I'm going to end up, which is quite fun. 'I'm used to travelling the country. So I think as long as my family, my wife and kids, we're all together, we're not really bothered where we go. "As long as we're going there and we feel appreciated, valued and I get the opportunity to play, then we'll take it.' ‘Cocaine-fuelled' knifeman killed partner and neighbour on Christmas Day

Brown then made his way across the communal landing to the flat next door, where Mr Latter and Ms Grant, who had left their door unlocked, were sitting in the living room enjoying a quiet Christmas Day, the court heard. The defendant then stabbed both victims multiple times with a 'blank' face, Ms Heer said. After leaving the second flat, Brown then fled the scene in his car, forcing his way through police officers trying to stop him, before driving off without switching his headlights on. His car was eventually brought to a halt by armed police in Milton Keynes, with a bloodstained knife found on the passenger seat and spots of Ms Pearson's and Mr Latter's blood found on his trainers, the court heard. While in a cell following his arrest, Brown made the unsolicited comment that he had 'gone f------ crazy', before later saying: 'Not self-defence. Murder. It's plain murder, not self-defence. Murder.' Mr Justice Kerr sentenced Brown to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 39 years for each of the murders, with the sentences to run concurrently. He also handed down 21 years' and 18 years' imprisonment for the attempted murders of Mr Latter and Jake Brown respectively, an 18-month sentence for possession of a knife in a public place and a nine-month sentence for causing unnecessary suffering to a protected animal, all to run concurrently.
