Everton manager David Moyes learned of OBE at grandson's nativity play

Moyes, 62, had not been checking the post because his mother-in-law was in poor health.
The former centre back was formally made an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) by avid football fan the Prince of Wales during a ceremony at Windsor Castle on Wednesday.

Moyes managed West Ham from 2017 to 2024, and under his tenure the team secured its first major trophy in 43 years in the 2023 Europa Conference League.
The Glaswegian, 62, managed Everton from 2002 to 2013 and returned to the Merseyside team in January.
Aston Villa-follower William congratulated him during the ceremony on Everton's success, Mr Moyes said.
The father-of-two told the PA news agency: 'They actually congratulated me on Everton and was praising for especially the way things have turned around in the second half of the season.
'I had said that I thought his side were doing remarkably well.'
Aston Villa finished sixth in the Premier League, with Everton in 13th place after coming back from being just one point above the relegation zone when Moyes took over in January.

The Prince of Wales often attends Villa games and has been photographed with his son Prince George at their matches.
Moyes added: 'He actually commented that it's great that he's seen them, and he's trying to enjoy all the good times at the moment with Aston Villa.
'He takes his sons, which is great – I think in many ways it shows that the royal family are very much part of the people as well, and want to do normal things in life'.
The former Celtic and Preston player, who also managed Manchester United, said he learned of the honour in December.
Moyes told PA: 'I was actually at my grandson's nativity and I'd got a call from the Home Office.
'My mother-in-law wasn't well, she was dying at the time, and we hadn't opened up the mail for a wee while – you know, we'd been concentrating on my mother-in-law.
'I had to say to my wife, 'can you check and see if I've had a message here?'
'I didn't believe them. I can sometimes get quite a lot of phone calls which you don't always believe.
'I went back, we checked, and I've got to say it was a big moment for both me and my wife. It was emotional.'

He suspected his success at West Ham was a key part of him making the New Year Honours list.
'Bringing a trophy to West Ham, I think was huge, and I've been really fortunate that I've been able to manage and stay in the game for a long time, which in itself is something which is not easy to do in the league which is seen as the best league in the world – it's not easy to have longevity in it'.
Moyes has the third-most Premier Leagues matches as a manager, behind Sir Alex Ferguson and Arsene Wenger.

Man Utd urged to U-turn on transfer plans and hand shock recall to unwanted star

Manchester United favourite Edwin van der Sar has had his say on the club's summer plans including a surprise shout for the out of favour Antony to be given a reprieve Edwin van der Sar reckons Manchester United could do worse than hand Antony an unexpected chance to salvage his Old Trafford career - even if the former Red Devils favourite acknowledges that doing so may be easier said than done. The winger, 25, has been unable to replicate the dazzling Eredivisie performances that convinced United to part with £86million to sign him back in the summer of 2022 and spent the last six months of the 2024-25 campaign on loan with Real Betis. ‌ Antony has found a new lease of life in Spain, though, registering 14 goal contributions in 26 games to help the club reach the Europa Conference League final. ‌ Betis and Antony have expressed a desire to make the move permanent but there are serious doubts that the La Liga outfit could finance such a deal. And while United are planning to offload Antony in order to raise some much needed transfer funds, Van der Sar has broached the idea of reintegrating the Brazilian. The former United goalkeeper told The Sun: "Luckily, I'm not in a position anymore to dictate at a club which kind of players have to come, but they're on the right track by signing a more experienced striker, maybe with another one on the way. "The two players they signed in the winter break were good, so they should be fine if they give faith to the manager. "Maybe [Alejandro] Garnacho's going to go, I would say bring Antony back, but I'm not sure if that's realistic." ‌ While there has been little talk of Antony returning to Manchester United's first-team there has been speculation Erik ten Hag could attempt to bring the winger to Bayer Leverkusen after signing the player for United from Ajax. For his part, Antony has made no secret of his desire to return to Betis, saying: "I love the club, the city, everything. The sunshine, the people, the food: it reminds me of Brazil. "And most importantly, I've found myself. I wasn't playing much [at Manchester United]. I needed to be happy in myself." Andy Robertson transfer exit has Liverpool fans worried and angry as Scots title safety net ripped away in an instant

If Robertson leaves for Atletico Madrid fans will be denied a farewell and club will be missing a constant ingredient for league success The time for Andy Robertson to leave Liverpool may be fast approaching. Atletico Madrid are reportedly keen to land the Scotland skipper this summer and with Robertson in the last year of his Anfield contract and Bournemouth's Milos Kerkez about to arrive as Arne Slot 's new left back, the 31-year-old might recognise it as a good time to bow out. ‌ Talks have taken place over a new deal but Robertson admits his future remains far from certain. ‌ A switch to the Spanish capital would put him back in best mate Trent Alexander-Arnold's orbit as well after the right back made his move to Real Madrid this summer - a move which did not go down well with the red half of Merseyside. Robertson is held in high regard by both club and fans in the city, having arrived for a bargain fee from Hull City and helped deliver one Champions Leagues, two Premier League titles, two League Cups and an FA Cup. First of all, fans will be annoyed at not getting to give Robertson a proper send off after seven years as a red. Secondly, and perhaps more worryingly, it would leave Liverpool needing to retain their league crown in a way they;ve never done before. That's because the club have never won one without at least one Scot in their squad. ‌ Going back to the turn of the last century, the squad that claimed the club's first ever championship in 1900/01 had more Scottish players than any other nationality, with nine making up the bulk of the team. The class of 05/06 was down to just five, before going back-to-back in 1921/22 and 22/22 with three players from north of the border. The 1946/47 champions featured five Scots and then one more 20 years later when they were champions again. ‌ They were back down to three in 1972/73 and just two a couple of years later in Peter Cormack and Brian Hall. Cormack was the sole Scot in 76/77, but the club's domination of English football was just beginning and Scottish stars would be at the heart of it. 78/79 was the first title winning campaign featuring Graeme Souness and Kenny Dalglish and from then on, Liverpool never looked back. Seven league crowns went to Anfield in the next ten years, with the likes of Alan Hansen, Frank McGarvey, Steve Nicol, John McGregor, Gary Gilespie, John Wark, Kevin MacDonald and Alan Irvine all playing their part in various victorious campaigns until Robertson continued the incredible run two decades later. Ben Doak remains on the Anfield books so technically, the Scottish safety net is still there, although after spending last season on loan at Middlesbrough and recent injury problems, his invovlementin Slot's first team plans is far from certain.
