A man accused of a deadly highway rampage that claimed the life of a 22-year-old woman has been released from hospital, his lawyer has confirmed.
Bradley Donald Towle, 41, is facing more than a dozen serious charges after an alleged spree on highways near the Sunshine Coast, north of Brisbane, on Easter Monday.
Police allege he was under the influence of drugs when he lost control of a red Porsche Macan at Palmview and crashed into the side of a Nissan Micra, killing 22-year-old passenger Jocelyn Grace Mollee.
Mr Towle allegedly fled the scene of the crash while armed with a shotgun – shooting a 62-year-old man who stopped his vehicle to help – and took off in his car.
It is alleged the Tewantin man then threatened a 16-year-old girl and her parents in another vehicle, but was soon arrested at about 12.50pm near Landsborough.
Body-worn camera footage released by police shows officers with weapons drawn ordering Mr Towle to lie on the ground before arresting him. A loaded shotgun was allegedly found inside the stolen vehicle.
Mr Towle has been charged with armed robbery, acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm, unlawful wounding, dangerous operation of a vehicle causing death, and multiple weapons and drug offences.
Police said Mr Towle was injured in the crash, and he was initially in hospital under police guard following his arrest.
He remains in custody and did not appear when his case was briefly mentioned in Maroochydore Magistrates Court on Wednesday.
There was no application for bail and his case is due back in court on June 30.
Speaking to reporters outside of court, Mr Towle's lawyer Ben Rynderman said he was limited in what he could say due to confidentiality.
'This is of course a very serious matter,' he said.
'It's obviously very serious and tragic and it will be treated with the seriousness and the gravity that it is.'
He confirmed Mr Towle had returned to the watch-house from hospital without needing further medical care.
'I imagine police will compile a comprehensive brief of evidence that will be very detailed and we will assess that brief on its merits,' he said.
Tributes have flowed for Ms Mollee in the wake of the Bruce Highway crash.
The 22-year-old was a fourth-year chemical engineering student at the University of Queensland and was only days away from completing her degree.
Her mother Amanda Chippendale said she last spoke to her daughter on Easter Sunday morning.
'A happy Easter call, catch up,' she told the Courier Mail.
'Jocey and I catch up every day or so on the phone or texting.'
'My heart is shattered. We're broken into a million pieces,' she said.
'Gone but not forgotten my baby girl.'

Sydney man charged after allegedly stranding family overseas
Don't miss out on the headlines from National. Followed categories will be added to My News. A southwest Sydney man who allegedly stranded his wife and one-year-old child in Pakistan is facing human trafficking charges. The Australian Federal Police's Eastern Command Human Trafficking team launched an investigation in February 2025, after a woman reported her husband had left her in Pakistan without documentation after the family travelled overseas together from Australia. It will be alleged the man, 45, deceptively convinced his wife and child to travel with him to Pakistan in August 2024. On arrival, he allegedly took the child's passport and abandoned the pair at the airport. He returned to Australia by himself later that month. A Sydney man is facing human trafficking charges. Picture: AFP The man then allegedly fraudulently cancelled the Australian visa of his wife in November 2024, and retained possession of the child's passport. The wife reported the matter to the AFP when she was able to return to Australia in February this year. AFP investigators engaged with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade to facilitate the child's return to Australia. The child was born in Australia and is an Australian citizen. AFP investigators executed a search warrant at an Austral home on Thursday and seized a number of electronic items and documents. The man was later charged with two counts of trafficking a person from Australia using deception. The offences carries a maximum 12 year prison sentence. The 45-year-old was arrested at Austral, Sydney. Picture: AFP He was also charged with one count of dealing with identification information involving the use of a carriage service. That charge carries a maximum penalty of five years' imprisonment. AFP Detective Acting Superintendent Luke Needham said the allegations in this matter could be described as potential 'exit trafficking' offences. 'Carrying out actions to force or encourage someone to travel overseas and then impede their ability to return to Australia can be a serious criminal offence, and the AFP will not hesitate to act when we have evidence of criminal actions,' Detective Needham said. 'Exit trafficking offences quite often occur within family units or in situations where close relationships have disintegrated, and there is a concern these types of offences are under-reported in Australia. 'The AFP encourages anyone who suspects they, or someone they know, has been a victim of exit trafficking to come forward. All complaints will be taken seriously and appropriately assessed with dignity, and the AFP can help victims obtain the support and assistance they require.'
