West Ham vs Leicester predictions: Premier League tips and odds

Telegraph27-02-2025

West Ham United welcome Leicester City to the London Stadium on Thursday (kick-off, 8pm), a match that wraps up Gameweek 27 of the Premier League season. The reverse fixture in December was Ruud van Nistelrooy's first game as manager of Leicester and they claimed a 3-1 victory.
Van Nisterooy was appointed with Leicester on 10 points after 13 league matches but they have won only seven points from the same number of games under the Dutchman. Our expert has three selections for the match, including a goal for the home team's striker Jarrod Bowen.
West Ham vs Leicester tips
Jarrod Bowen to score any time @ 8/5 with bet365
Wilfred Ndidi to be shown a card @ 3/1 with bet365
Jordan Ayew 1.5+ fouls @ 5/4 with bet365

Bowen can fire against Foxes
Only three places separate these clubs in the bottom five of the Premier League and it's not hard to pinpoint why both have struggled this season. West Ham are joint-16th among the division's highest scorers, with 30 goals, Leicester are 19th with 25 – and the two occupy the same places in the table.
Of course, it may be that two porous defences make this a match in which the forwards on both sides are given a chance to find their shooting boots, but a safer play is to stick with a proven poacher. Our selection is Jarrod Bowen, whose header earned West Ham three points at Arsenal on Saturday.
Bowen is his side's top scorer in the Premier League this season with seven, including two in three matches since his recovery from a fractured foot. Leicester have also been leaking goals in recent matches – 32 in Van Nistelrooy's 13 league games in charge and 10 in the previous three alone.
Ndidi a contender for a card
Leicester head West Ham in the yellow card count across both the season (62-57) and the previous six matches (13-11), and there is value to be had in them falling foul of the officials again tonight.
Boubakary Soumare has been the worst offender for the Foxes, with eight yellow cards, ahead of Facundo Buonanotte (seven), Jannik Vestergaard and Jordan Ayew (five apiece), but Wilfred Ndidi's odds of 3/1 catch the eye in this market.
Ndidi averages 1.6 fouls per match in the top flight this season and has been booked four times in 17 league matches. Up against the likes of Mohammed Kudus and Bowen, he can collect another here.
Ayew appeals in fouls market
West Ham duo Edson Alvarez (35) and Tomas Soucek (34) lead the standings in this category but there's an appealing consistency about the three Leicester players who follow them.
The numbers of Ndidi (28), Jordan Ayew (27) and Buonanotte (27) demonstrate how Leicester are prepared to defend from the front as they fight to preserve their top-flight status.
Across the past six matches, the trio's tallies are two fouls for Ndidi, four for Buonanotte and eight for Ayew, so we're backing the last of those to commit two or more fouls on Thursday.

Paul Scholes dubbed Soccer Aid rival 'moody' and 'lunatic' who he avoided

Paul Scholes is one of many Manchester United legends playing at Old Trafford on Sunday evening for Soccer Aid 2025, and he's already made his feelings clear on one rival who he will face off against Paul Scholes branded former Manchester United team-mate Nemanja Vidic a "lunatic" as he prepares to face him at Soccer Aid. The pair of Red Devils legends are among a number of famous faces from the Sir Alex Ferguson era who will return to Old Trafford on Sunday evening to raise money for Unicef through a friendly kickabout. And while Scholes and Vidic worked brilliantly alongside one another during their Premier League glory days, they will be playing for separate teams at Soccer Aid. Scholes is representing England with Wayne Rooney, Michael Carrick and Gary Neville, while Vidic will play for the World XI with the likes of John O'Shea, Carlos Tevez and Edwin van der Sar. ‌ Despite coming across as a fun-filled spectacle between former players and celebrities, Scholes may head into the fray a little anxious if his past comments on Vidic are anything to go by. That's because the Serbian national was one of the many hard-men in Manchester United's ranks during his playing days. ‌ Speaking to the UTD podcast about what Vidic was like as a team-mate, the 50-year-old said: "I was fairly good at tackling. It was all calculated. I was just getting people back. That's all I was doing. "I never instigated. If someone got me, there's a chance I'd get them back. Vida [Vidic] had some tackles in the box, he could be a lunatic." He added: "He didn't play as a centre half in five-a-side. He was one of those defenders that thought he could play a bit as a No. 10. You know what I mean? "When you get to a five-a-side a he does anything but play in his position, 'Give it to me' all that stuff. But when it came to a game he would head and kick everything. "In training he could be a bit moody and a nuisance in the box especially but a great centre half. He was perfect for English football. He could head the ball, tackle, he was great, a really good player." ‌ After forming a formidable partnership with Rio Ferdinand quickly after arriving at Old Trafford in 2006, Vidic made 300 appearances for the Red Devils. He lifted five Premier League titles, three League Cups and a Champions League. Vidic left United in 2014 to play for Inter Milan, before calling time on an illustrious career in January 2016. Scholes, meanwhile, spent the entirety of his professional footballing career with United, racking up 155 goals and 82 assists from 716 games primarily as a central-midfielder. Alongside Vidic, he is part of a wealth of household names who will play at Soccer Aid on Sunday from content creators like Morgan Burtwhistle (AKA AngryGinge) to fellow athletes like Sir Mo Farah and Tony Bellew. Football fans can catch all of the action live on ITV1 and ITVX from 6pm onwards. Kick-off is slated for 7:30pm. Shock club joins Tyler Dibling race amid Man Utd and Chelsea links

A surprise contender has emerged in the race to sign Southampton winger Tyler Dibling this summer, with the youngster attracting interest from abroad. It was a disastrous season int he Premier League for the Saints last time round, but Dibling was one of the very few bright sparks. Still just 19 years old, the England Under-21 international caught the eye, scoring four goals in 38 appearances across all competitions. Manchester United and Chelsea have been credited with an interest in the teenager, as have the likes of Tottenham and Bayern Munich. There has not appeared to be much movement, despite that level of interest, and a new challenger has emerged. Portuguese publication Record report that Porto have been impressed by the youngster and are exploring a way of making a deal happen. That will be far from easy for them to do given the enormous asking price Southampton have suggested for Dibling, with the Telegraph reporting that earlier this year that the Saints have quoted an enormous £100m for their star player. That would be extremely ambitious for the now Championship club, but even if they cannot seriously expect £100m for Dibling, they will want a lot of money. Porto are reportedly exploring swap deals or loan arrangements as ways of getting an unlikely deal done. The winger is under contract at St Mary's until 2027 and has not sounded in a rush to leave Southampton in the near future. 'I don't try to think about it and just try and go into train every day and work hard and train the best I can,' he said earlier this year when asked about transfer speculation. 'At the end of the day, I love Southampton. I have been here since I was eight. It's such a great team and I am working to do big things with them.' Dibling has come with rave reviews from Southampton, with his game boasting far much more than his basic goal-scoring stats suggest. Former Southampton Under-21 head coach Adam Asghar told BBC Sport of the teenager: 'He's the most fearless player I've ever worked with. 'He's totally unique to anything I've seen before. He's got raw physicality, pace and power, is an unbelievable ball-carrier and is always impacting games. Former Southampton manager Russell Martin told The Rest is Football of Tyler Dibling… 'He's the most talented player I've ever seen – ever worked with. I worked with James Maddison at that age at Norwich, he was outstanding. 'Tyler has every capability to go and play for England and at a top level for a very long time. 'He's powerful, he's really quick, both feet, can shoot. I worked with Harry Kane and physically the stuff I've seen him do at 18 in the Premier League with people just bouncing off him – he has something I've not seen in a British player in a long time. 'He'll play as a No.8 or a No.10 eventually, but he's 18 so we played him out wide and he was incredible. 'He can play wide, we played him as a false nine in pre-season and he was our best player.' 'In a generation of football where it's very much about limited touches and moving the ball quickly Tyler can move it as quickly by carrying the ball rather than passing it and that's what makes him such a special talent. More Trending 'Every game (with the Under-21s) he would always have four or five moments that would almost take your breath away. 'He is really sure of his ability. He wouldn't be fazed by the opponent or situation, he played with fearlessness.' When Dibling was first linked with Manchester United in December, there was a suggestion the Red Devils were planning to bid £21m for him in January. Russell Martin, who was in charge of Saints at the time, said: 'I was told about some rumours of Manchester United wanting to bid £21m. I'm not sure they'd get his left foot for that.' It's led to some fears from Gers fans that the midfielder could be poached by another side though, with former boss Philippe Clement suggesting that his old player is ready top join a top-half English Premier League side earlier this month. And Raskin's teammate Dujon Sterling has made his feelings clear that he doesn't want the 24-year-old to leave just yet. The Englishman had posted photos from his off-season holiday in Florida on Instagram. Raskin commented on the post: "My boy." And Sterling replied: "Sign the contract!!!!!" It's not clear whether the club has actually offered Raskin a contract yet, with his current deal still having two years to run.
