Man City fined £1m by Premier League for repeated rule-breaking
Manchester City have been fined more than £1m by the Premier League for breaching the rules around delayed kick-offs and restarts nine times last season, England's top-flight league said on Thursday.
The fine comes a year after City paid £2m to the league for breaching the same game-delay rules.
The club accepted and apologised for the rule breaches, and confirmed they have reminded their players and staff of their responsibilities in complying with the rules.
"Rules relating to kick-offs and re-starts help ensure the organisation of the competition is set at the highest possible professional standard and provides certainty to fans and participating clubs," the league said in a statement.
"It also ensures the broadcast of every Premier League match is kept to schedule."
Fines totalling £1m pounds were imposed relating to City's home games against Southampton, Tottenham Hotspur, Nottingham Forest, Manchester United, West Ham United and Newcastle United and their away fixtures against Crystal Palace, Aston Villa and Ipswich Town.
The longest game delays were two minutes 22 seconds each for restarts v West Ham and Ipswich.
City are awaiting the verdict of 115 unrelated charges of alleged breaches of the Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules.
The charges cover a period starting from 2009 and continuing into the 2022-23 season. City have always denied any wrongdoing.

The death of the 3pm on a Saturday A bizarre quirk of this season's Scottish Premiership opening day is that there's three of games get things going on Saturday as Kilmarnock host Livingston and Motherwell take on Russell Martin's then have to wait until Sunday for three more to follow, including defending champions Celtic against St Mirren, while Hearts and Aberdeen bring the whole thing to a close on there is actually only one game - Kilmarnock v Livingston - which kicks off at 15:00 BST on the Saturday. Hibs and Dundee United also have European qualifiers on the preceding Thursday. When is the first Old Firm game? Yes, yes, there are three city derbies in the Premiership. There's no west-coast bias here. However, there will be a particular clamour around the first meeting of Celtic and Rangers this season. The Ibrox side have a new manager in Martin, and there will plenty of anticipation to see how his team fare against Brendan Rodgers' Celtic given the chasm between the two clubs last teams will also have been in European qualifying beforehand to give this one an extra who picked up seven points in last term's derbies and still finished miles behind, host the first Old Firm meeting on 31 August with a noon is the Dundee derby? The answer to this will be the same regardless who you ask: "My team."Football fans are not renowned for their impartiality or rational thinking, every person's favourite club has been dealt a short hand. Or have they? Our friends at Opta have crunched the number for the opening four games, and it appears St Mirren - who have Celitc, Rangers and an away trip to Easter Road among their opening matches - have got it the you have Dundee, who have Rangers, Hibs, Kilmarnock away on a plastic pitch plus a derby. Then it's Motherwell who open to Martin's Ibrox appears the SPFL super computer was built in Edinburgh, with both capital clubs allegedly having the softest last words. What are the festive Premiership fixtures? In recent memory, Scottish football has had Christmas Eve fixtures, Boxing Day fixtures, Hogmanay fixtures and even New Year's Day fixtures. 'Absolutely staggering' security breach at RAF base - as activists break in and vandalise aircraft
Sir Keir Starmer has condemned pro-Palestinian activists who broke into a RAF base in Oxfordshire as "disgraceful". Palestine Action targeted RAF Brize Norton and damaged two military aircraft in what the Ministry of Defence (MoD) branded an act of "vandalism". The pro-Palestinian group posted on X to say it had broken into the site - the largest RAF station with approximately 5,800 service personnel, 300 civilian staff and 1,200 contractors. In a video shared online, a person can be seen approaching an aircraft on a scooter as music is played. Red paint can be seen on the ground. In a post on X, the prime minister branded the breach an "act of vandalism" and "disgraceful". "Our Armed Forces represent the very best of Britain and put their lives on the line for us every day. It is our responsibility to support those who defend us," he added. The MoD also condemned the group's actions, adding: "We are working closely with the police who are investigating." In a statement, Palestine Action - which focuses its campaigns on multinational arms dealers and has previously targeted corporate banks - said it had damaged two military planes at the RAF base, where flights depart on a daily basis for RAF Akrotiri in Cyprus. The UK has two military bases on the island of Cyprus, a legacy of its former status as a British colony. When it gained independence from Britain in 1960, it was agreed that Britain would maintain two "sovereign base areas" at Akrotiri in the south west and Dhekelia in the south east. Aircraft based at Akrotiri include RAF Typhoons, which were used last year in strikes on Houthi rebels in Yemen, as well as Puma helicopters. The group said two activists "broke into the largest air force base in Britain and used electric scooters to swiftly manoeuvre towards the planes". They said repurposed fire extinguishers were used to spray red paint into the turbine engines of two Airbus Voyagers, while further damage was made using crowbars. "Red paint, symbolising Palestinian bloodshed was also sprayed across the runway and a Palestine flag was left on the scene," the statement added. "Both activists managed to evade security and arrest." Work is under way to assess whether any damage has been caused, it is understood. No operations or planned movements are thought to have been affected. A senior RAF source told Sky News: "The claims made by the group who broke into RAF Brize Norton show a complete lack of understanding of how the RAF operates and what these aircraft do. "The UK is not supporting Israeli operations and these aircraft have not been used in support of Israeli forces in any shape or form." Ben Obese-Jecty, a Liberal Democrat MP and former army officer, said the breach at Brize Norton was "absolutely staggering". "Given the current heightened global tensions, the increase in activity and the recent exploitation of the vulnerability of Russian airbases by Ukraine, it is incredible that our busiest RAF base could be compromised," he said.

Ahmed brothers to resume 'backyard rivalry' after T20 clash
The next game of 'backyard cricket' between the Ahmed brothers promises more drama than their first T20 Blast international Rehan Ahmed managed just a single off the bowling of younger brother and Notts Outlaws spinner Farhan in Leicestershire's victory at Grace Road on Thursday was the solitary run scored by the 20-year-old off his sibling on the way to a maiden T20 half-century that helped the Foxes chase down Notts' total of 156 with more than two overs to spare to win by four said facing his 17-year-old brother in a competitive match for the first time was "a great feeling", even though they had practised together earlier in the day."It felt so different out there in the middle," Rehan told BBC Radio Leicester."He has bowled to me a lot, so he knows I will try to run down and stuff, so I was just going to play it safe."The younger Ahmed should not expect similar caution from his big brother the next time they if he would go looking for a six or two off Farhan's bowling when they face each other at Trent Bridge on 6 July, Rehan laughed and promised fireworks much sooner."Maybe it won't be at Trent Bridge, but maybe in the back garden," he said. The fraternal rivalry was intriguing sub-plot in a milestone knock for Leicestershire's Rehan, who freely admitted he has "really underperformed with the bat" in previous 52 from 37 balls, sharing a 69-run fourth-wicket partnership with Foxes skipper Louis Kimber, who made 35 off 15, earned him the player the the match honours and high praise from head coach Alfonso Thomas."I've given him stick over the last couple of months, because he has a lot of bats upstairs and I always say he has more bats than runs," Thomas teased during a post-match interview alongside Rehan."But he has proved me wrong in the last couple of months, where he has come in and done a fantastic job for us. He is a quality performer, he is obviously an international player for us, but that is what you want from your big players - to come in and show the guys how to win games."Leicestershire's fifth win from eight T20 Blast games put them second in the Northern Group and well placed to advance to the knockout stage of the competition for the first time since 2020.
