2025 CJ Cup Byron Nelson Thursday first round tee times, how to watch
The PGA Tour is back in the Lone Star State.
The 2025 CJ Cup Byron Nelson kicks off Thursday at TPC Craig Ranch in McKinney, outside of Dallas. Taylor Pendrith is the defending champion, but hometown stars Scottie Scheffler and Jordan Spieth highlight the field. But in terms of field strength, it's the second-weakest field of the PGA Tour season, in front of only the Mexico Open.
The purse at the Zurich Classic is $9.9 million, with $1,782,000 million going to each winner along with 500 FedEx Cup points.
Here's everything you need to know for the first round of the CJ Cup Byron Nelson, including tee times and TV information. All times ET.

Rory McIlroy Has Strong Statement to PGA Tour Career Worst Finish

Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Rory McIlroy arrived at the TPC Toronto with an impressive record at the RBC Canadian Open, having achieved four top-10 finishes in as many appearances, including two victories. However, his run at this event took a drastic turn in 2025 when he missed his first cut on Canadian soil. This was McIlroy's first missed cut since last July, when he missed the weekend at the Open Championship. It was also his worst 36-hole finish of his entire PGA Tour career. Nevertheless, McIlroy remained positive when evaluating the outcome of the Canadian Open: "I think there's still learnings that you have to take from a day like today," he said after the second round. "Look, even though the last two days didn't go the way I wanted them to, there's still things that I can take from it, and there's still things that I can learn." "I think there's still learnings that you have to take from a day like today." Rory reflects on missing his first cut since @TheOpen in 2024. — PGA TOUR (@PGATOUR) June 6, 2025 McIlroy carded three birdies and four bogeys during the first round, finishing at 1-over 71. It wasn't a stellar performance, but he still had a chance to make the cut if he improved a bit the next day. However, things only got worse on Friday. The turning point came at the fifth hole, which McIlroy reached after making par on the first four. At the 5th hole, a 447-yard par 4, the 29-time PGA Tour winner had one of his worst performances in recent memory. He sent his second shot well past the green and into the native area, so he took a penalty stroke. Surprisingly, he hit his fourth shot past the green again, landing the ball on a slope 77 feet from the hole. McIlroy managed to reach the green with his fifth shot but then three-putted for quadruple bogey. From there, the five-time major champion could not regain control of his game. He added two birdies, four bogeys, and a double bogey to finish the round 8-over, missing the cut with a 36-hole score of 9-over. His second-round 78 was his worst since the first round of the Open Championship last July, when he also carded a 78. MoreUS Open Concerns The elephant in the room is that such a poor performance came with the U.S. Open starting in less than a week. McIlroy made no secret of his concern and hinted at how he will address the issue: "Of course it concerns me," he said. "You don't want to shoot high scores like the one I did today. Still, I felt like I came here obviously with a new driver thinking that that sort of was going to be good and solve some of the problems off the tee, but it didn't." "Obviously going to Oakmont next week, what you need to do more than anything else there is hit fairways. Still sort of searching for the sort of missing piece off the tee." "Obviously for me, when I get that part of the game clicking, then everything falls into place for me. Right now that isn't. Yeah, that's a concern going into next week..." "I'm going to have to do a lot of practice and a lot of work over the weekend at home and try to at least have a better idea of where my game is going into next week." In 2025, Rory McIlroy won three of the first six tournaments he played in, including the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, the Players Championship, and the Masters Tournament. By winning the green jacket, he completed the highly coveted career Grand Slam. Since his victory at the Augusta National Golf Club, the Northern Irishman has played in four other tournaments, including the Canadian Open. He added to his list a missed cut this week, a T47 at the PGA Championship, a Top 15 at the Zurich Classic, and a Top 10 at the Truist Championship. Rory McIlroy has major ‘concerns' as new driver leads to shocking early exit from Canadian Open

Rory McIlroy added something big to his resume, but not in any desirable way. On Friday at the RBC Canadian Open, the Masters champion suffered an early exit from the tournament after having his second-highest score to par in any PGA Tour round of his career, missing the cut by 12. He shot 8-over 78, and his biggest troubles came in a messy fifth hole with a concerning quadruple bogey 8. 4 Rory McIlroy of Northern Ireland plays his shot from the 18th tee during the second round of the RBC Canadian Open 2025 at TPC Toronto at Osprey Valley on June 06, 2025 in Caledon, Ontario. Getty Images It marked McIlroy's highest score since shooting another 78 in the first round of the British Open last year. He had a double bogey on hole 11, along with four bogeys and two birdies. He also had a double bogey on No. 11, four bogeys and two birdies on Friday. It ranked as McIlroy's highest score in any non-major PGA Tour round. 'Of course it concerns me,' McIlroy said, per ESPN. 'You don't want to shoot high scores like the one I did today. Still, I felt like I came here obviously with a new driver thinking that that sort of was going to be good and solve some of the problems off the tee, but it didn't.' Friday marked the fifth time in McIlroy's career that he has carded an 8-over round, trailing only the 10-over 80 he shot in the opening round of the 2018 U.S. Open. 4 Rory McIlroy hit his approach shot from the rough on the fifth hole during the second round of the Canadian Open golf tournament in Caledon, Ontario, Friday, June 6, 2025. AP McIlroy, at 9-over, was 21 strokes behind Cameron Champ, who entered Saturday with a two-stroke lead in the final event ahead of the U.S. Open. The reigning Masters champion isn't involved in weekend play in a non-major tour for the first time since the 2023 Players Championship. 4 Cameron Champ hits his tee shot at the 12th hole during the first round of the RBC Canadian Open golf tournament. Dan Hamilton-Imagn Images 'Obviously, going to Oakmont next week, what you need to do more than anything else there is hit fairways,' McIlroy said. 'Still sort of searching for the sort of missing piece off the tee.' McIlroy has previously won the Canadian Open twice — in 2019 and 2022. 4 Rory McIlroy said he had issues with his new driver. Getty Images Champ was at 12 under and played the first 36 holes without a bogey. 'It's firmed up a little bit, but fairly similar to yesterday,' Champ said. 'The fairways I feel like were firming up a little bit. The greens slightly, but pretty close to how they were yesterday.'

There are 18 contenders at RBC Canadian Open who need to win Sunday to get into U.S. Open

There are 18 contenders at RBC Canadian Open who need to win Sunday to get into U.S. Open The U.S. Open is just about filled up with six available spots still to go. The winner of the 2025 RBC Canadian Open, if he's not already in the field for Oakmont, earns at least Thursday and Friday tee times at the national championship next week. The Canadian Open is the final PGA Tour event before the U.S. Open, the final tune-up for those in, the final hope for those not. Golfers in contention at RBC Canadian Open who need to win to get into U.S. Open There are 29 golfers inside the top 20 (more specifically, there are 29 golfers tied for 18th or better after 36 holes in Toronto). Of those 29, there are 18 who are not in the U.S. Open field. Everyone tied for 18th or better is no more than six shots off the lead with half the tournament still to go. Neither of the top two so far in Toronto are in the Oakmont field. Pos. Name Score U.S. Open: In or out 1 Cameron Champ -12 Out 2 Andrew Putnam -10 Out T3 Thorbjorn Olesen -9 In T3 Richard Lee -9 Out T3 Nick Taylor -9 In T3 Victor Perez -9 In T7 Ryan Fox -8 Out T7 Jake Knapp -8 Out T7 Shane Lowry -8 In T7 Cristobal Del Solar -8 Out T7 Sam Burns -8 In T7 Matteo Manassero -8 Out T13 Danny Willett -7 Out T13 Rasmus Hojgaard -7 In T13 Matt McCarty -7 In T13 John Pak -7 Out T13 Taylor Pendrith -7 In T18 Cameron Young -6 In T18 Kevin Yu -6 Out T18 Peter Malnati -6 Out T18 David Skinns -6 Out T18 Trey Mullinax -6 Out T18 Jesper Svensson -6 Out T18 Beau Hossler -6 Out T18 Lee Hodges -6 Out T18 Mackenzie Hughes -6 In T18 Keith Mitchell -6 Out T18 Byeong Hun An -6 In T18 Jackson Suber -6 Out So it's pretty simple for those golfers: win and you're in.
