PETALING JAYA: After seven unforgettable years, Park Tae-su is bidding farewell to Sabah.
The beloved South Korean defender announced his departure from the club in a heartfelt message, though he did not reveal what lies ahead in his footballing journey.
At 35, Tae-su has been more than just a player for the Rhinos – he has been a pillar of strength and a fan favourite, affectionately nicknamed 'Pak Karim' by supporters who flocked to see him at the Likas Stadium in Kota Kinabalu.
This season was one of the most challenging of his career as injuries limited him to just 17 appearances across all competitions.
Yet in seasons past, Tae-su was a cornerstone of Sabah's defence – known for his fierce tackles, intelligent interceptions, and a surprising flair for scoring, especially from set-pieces and long-range efforts.
Reflecting on his time at the club, Tae-su expressed deep gratitude for the opportunity to serve as one of Sabah's longest-serving import players.
'As a foreign player, lasting seven years with one team is something truly special,' said Tae-su, who joined Sabah from Korean club Hwaseong in 2018.
'It's not just a football journey, it's been a life journey. I arrived in Malaysia knowing no one and barely speaking the language. Everything felt foreign, but here, I found family. I found a second home.'
He reminisced about the highs and lows – the sweat, the struggles, the victories, and the defeats – all of which helped him grow as both a footballer and a person.
'This season tested me,' he admitted.
'Injuries took away so many chances. I couldn't perform the way I wanted to. But I never stood alone.'
He reserved his most emotional words for the Sabah fans, whose unwavering support carried him through tough times.
'I got back up because of you. Because of your endless support, your faith in me. Players come and go. Owners change. But true Sabah supporters stand firm. You're more than fans – you're the heartbeat of my fight. The family that never turned away.''

Coach apologises to Vietnam fans after heavy loss

KUALA LUMPUR: A few weeks ago, Kim Sang Sik basked in the glow of a famous victory over Manchester United by his Asean XI at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil. Last night, he was apologising to the Vietnamese people from the same venue. Sang Sik, whose men were trounced 4-0 by Malaysia in an Asian Cup qualifier, said in a post-match press conference: "I feel Malaysia are very strong in this group, they are getting stronger and stronger. There are many players from abroad (Malaysia used heritage players), our team suffered from them. "I want to apologise to the Vietnamese fans who watched on television and also to those who came to the stadium. "I think the players and the Vietnam fans were disappointed tonight. I feel very responsible for the result. We lost, but all the players did their best." Sang Sik, a South Korean, said injuries to his key centre-backs Nguyen Thanh Chung and Bui Tien Dung toward the end of the first half changed the course of the match. "In the first half, we did as we had planned but in the second half, we lost Thanh Chung and Tien Dung, two important defenders, and the defensive structure broke down." Despite the heavy defeat, Sang Sik said the return tie against Malaysia in Hanoi on March 31, next year, could see a spectacular comeback from his team, one which may decide the Group F winners. "Nobody knows how football goes. We could miraculously win four or five nil in Hanoi. Nobody knows. I have to prepare for the match in Hanoi," he said. The loss leaves Vietnam second in Group F with three points. The Golden Star Warriors are expected to beat Nepal (on Oct 9 and Oct 14) and Laos (Nov 18) before facing Malaysia again.

Two South Koreans charged for blackmailing Spurs star Son

Two South Koreans have been charged with blackmail or attempted blackmail targeting Tottenham Hotspur captain Son Heung-min, the prosecution said Wednesday, with one of them reportedly his ex-girlfriend. The suspects -- a woman in her 20s surnamed Yang and a man in his 40s surnamed Yong -- have been in custody since last month. The two have now been 'formally charged and will stand trial while in custody', a spokesperson for the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office told AFP. According to the Yonhap news agency and other local media, Yang is Son's ex-girlfriend and allegedly extorted 300 million won ($219,000) from him by sending a foetal ultrasound image and threatening to go public with claims that she was pregnant with his child last year. It remains unclear whether Yang -- who local media have speculated terminated the alleged pregnancy -- was actually carrying the star footballer's child. Prosecutors believe Yang later attempted to extort an additional 70 million won from Son this year in collaboration with Yong, with whom she was in a romantic relationship, according to Yonhap. The pair allegedly made the threats by saying they would expose the alleged pregnancy and abortion to the media. Son refused to pay the 70 million won and filed a criminal complaint against the two. Son, who also captains South Korea's national team, joined Tottenham from Bayer Leverkusen in 2015. The South Korean forward has a year left on his Spurs contract and has been linked with a move to Saudi Arabia after helping the club end their 17-year trophy drought in last month's Europa League final.

Son to ‘wait and see' on Tottenham future after Saudi links

Son Heung-min has cast doubt on his Tottenham future after saying he will 'wait and see' what happens amid speculation the skipper could move to Saudi Arabia. The South Korean forward has a year left on his contract and has been linked with an exit after helping Spurs end their 17-year trophy drought. 'Rather than saying anything at this moment, I think we should all wait and see what happens,' the 32-year-old told reporters after South Korea's 4-0 World Cup qualifying win over Kuwait on Tuesday. 'But no matter where I end up, I will always do the best I can. It will never change.' Son lifted the Europa League trophy last month to claim his first piece of silverware with Tottenham after helping his team beat Manchester United 1-0 in Bilbao. Spurs have since fired coach Ange Postecoglou following a dismal Premier League campaign that saw them finish one place above the relegation zone. Son came under pressure after a series of underwhelming displays but he vowed to come back stronger next season, wherever he is playing. 'I know people may say I had a disappointing year but personally, this was a special season because you play football to win, and only winners are remembered,' said Son, who joined Tottenham from Germany's Bayer Leverkusen in 2015. 'I wasn't in my best form for most of the season but hopefully I will be in better condition going into the new season.' South Korea booked their place at next year's World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico with 2-0 win over Iraq last week. They finished top of Group B in the Asian third round of qualifiers and were unbeaten in 10 games. 'I know people just assume that we should come out of Asia with ease but nothing has been easy,' said Son, who came on as a 75th-minute substitute against Kuwait. 'I think we were able to finish well here because everyone came together with the same goal of never losing a match.'
