The Jays' starting rotation struggled in the final three games of the series, giving up 18 combined runs as part of what has been a work in progress for manager John Schneider's team.
On Monday, the Jays made an announcement on a pitcher who played in eight games and started two for the ballclub, after receiving word on his next career path.

"ROSTER MOVE: RHP Jose Urena has cleared waivers and elected free agency," the Jays' X account wrote on Monday.
The right-hander was designated for assignment two days prior to make room for lefty Easton Lucas, who had a rough month of April but bounced back with 4.2 scoreless innings against the Athletics on Saturday, May 31.

Urena, a native of Santa Domingo, Dominican Republic, pitched five scoreless innings in his last three outings, making him a strong possibility to land with another Major League organization.
Toronto currently ranks 20th in the Majors in earned run average at 4.03, although they have shined in the strikeouts department with 537 so far on the year.
Next up for Schneider's team is a three-game series with the Philadelphia Phillies at Rogers Centre followed by three road games against the Minnesota Twins and another three-game series with the St. Louis Cardinals.
Bowden Francis is expected to take the mound on Tuesday against Zack Wheeler of the Phillies, with tickets going for as little as ten dollars.

Rory McIlroy Sends Strong Message to Scottie Scheffler After 16th PGA Tour Win

Rory McIlroy Sends Strong Message to Scottie Scheffler After 16th PGA Tour Win originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Scottie Scheffler continues his dominance on the PGA Tour. Over the weekend, the world's top-ranked golfer claimed victory at the Memorial Tournament at Muirfield Village Golf Club, his second straight win in Columbus. Advertisement At just 28 years old, the win marked Scheffler's 16th PGA Tour title. He already owns a PGA Championship and now sits just a U.S. Open and Open Championship away from completing the Career Grand Slam. Scheffler held the World No. 1 ranking for 142 weeks as of March 27, 2022, and his consistency on the course is drawing admiration from players across the globe. One of them, Rory McIlroy, the world's No. 2, had high praise when asked about Scheffler's incredible run: "He make mistakes." McIlroy expanded on his admiration with an even bolder take: 'I've never. This is anyone. This is Tiger, this is in the history of golf. I don't think I've ever seen a golfer ever play as many bogey-free rounds as Scottie. He just doesn't make mistakes.' In the weeks since, he's won the Byron Nelson by eight strokes, the PGA Championship by five and the Memorial by four over Ben Griffin. Next up, Scheffler and McIlroy will both compete at the U.S. Open, set to begin June 12 at Oakmont Country Club near Pittsburgh. Rory McIlroy Makes Strong Statement on PGA Tour's Decision

Rory McIlroy Makes Strong Statement on PGA Tour's Decision originally appeared on Athlon Sports. As players on the PGA Tour gear up for one final tune-up before the U.S. Open, attention turns to the RBC Canadian Open. Some of the game's top names will tee it up in Canada while others use the week for final preparations before heading to historic Oakmont Country Club next week. Advertisement Among those in the field is career grand slam winner Rory McIlroy, who shared his thoughts on the current landscape of the PGA Tour, showing strong support for the growing PGA Tour University program. "That's the future of the tour," McIlroy said. "I love that PGA Tour U program." A big part of that discussion centered around 21-year-old Luke Clanton, who will make his PGA Tour professional debut at the RBC Canadian Open before heading to the U.S. Open the following week. "It seems like these college kids are coming out just ready," McIlroy continued. "You look at the past few years, Ludvig (Aberg), for example, Michael Thorbjornsen and obviously Luke. I think this PGA Tour U program is so good. If it were up to me, I'd give the college kids five or 10 spots on tour instead of just one. Advertisement "Bringing new blood through every year is so important for the Tour." Rory McIlroy enters this week's RBC Canadian Open with three wins in nine PGA Tour starts in 2025. Aaron Doster-Imagn Images Clanton, a Florida State product from Hialeah, Florida, already has major experience. He made the cut at the 2023 U.S. Open and finished tied for 41st. Earlier this season, he secured enough points at the Cognizant Classic to lock in PGA Tour membership. McIlroy, meanwhile, heads to Oakmont in search of his sixth career major. His last U.S. Open title came in 2011. He won the Masters in April and finished tied for 47th at the PGA Championship last month. As the U.S. Open approaches, the excitement around Clanton's debut and McIlroy's quest for another major title will be two big storylines to follow. Alex Cora Sends Clear Message on Potential Kristian Campbell Demotion

Alex Cora Sends Clear Message on Potential Kristian Campbell Demotion originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Boston Red Sox infielder Kristian Campbell's rookie season has hit a road bump. After totaling a .301 batting average with four home runs and a tremendous .902 OPS through April, the former Rookie of the Month is trying to rebound after a difficult May. Advertisement Going 11-for-82 with a .184 on-base percentage, .171 slugging percentage, and .355 OPS in 22 games, Campbell secured his second extra-base hit since April 29 against the Los Angeles Angels on Tuesday. With Boston dropping eight of their last 10 games, including Tuesday's 4-3 loss, manager Alex Cora told the media, "We got to get the offensive part of it going. We have to." Boston Red Sox second baseman Kristian Campbell (28) hits a double during the fifth inning against the Baltimore Orioles at Oriole Park at Camden Kucin Jr.-Imagn Images Cora sounds like a desperate man willing to do anything to fix the team's issues. He already moved Campbell down to ninth in the batting order on Monday, but could something more drastic be in store? When asked if the team was considering demoting Campbell back to Triple-A Worcester, Cora shared a telling response. Advertisement 'We want him to get it here. That's the most important thing,' Cora said. 'We don't rule anything out. But right now, he's going to play here, and he's going to get at-bats here, and we're going to keep pushing him to be better." Cora continued by explaining how Campbell can find his stride at the plate again. 'We have to get back to being disciplined," Cora said. 'That's something that he's done in his short career. Yeah, he hits the ball hard, but he's very disciplined. And up to that point, that was a great at-bat, and then we swung at that pitch. So, let him know that we hit the ball hard, but we hit the ball hard with pitches in the zone. And be decisive. I think that's the most important thing. I think he's been a little bit hesitant, like in between on pitches the last few weeks." As Cora himself said, they will not rule out sending Campbell back down to Triple-A if his struggles continue. But in the meantime, expect to see the former 2023 fourth-round pick in the lineup every day until further notice. Advertisement If Boston does decide to demote Campbell, current number-two prospect Marcello Mayer would be in a prime position to secure a prominent role on the major league roster. It could also give Campbell some time to clear his mind, fix the mechanical mistakes, and make a triumphant return at a later point in the season.
