Baltimore Ravens Update Zay Flowers' Injury Recovery
Baltimore Ravens Update Zay Flowers' Injury Recovery originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
Baltimore Ravens wideout Zay Flowers sat on the sideline while his team was bounced out of the postseason for the second straight year. The year before it was partly thanks to a late fumble by Flowers, but this time he wasn't on the field due to a knee injury suffered in the Ravens' 35-10 win over the Cleveland Browns.

He missed all of the postseason last year and continues to rehab. He was able to avoid surgery and is present at the team's OTAs.
Offensive coordinator Todd Monken gave an update, saying he's got "no limits" from his injury, and has Monken itching to get him back on the field to utilize him more in the offense in 2025.
'We've just got to get him the ball more,' Monken said, via the team's website. 'He's an unbelievable football player. He's not only an outside receiver who has elite route-running skills, but he's unbelievable with the ball in his hands. So you have a guy who really plays two spots. I'm not sure he can use that in his contract negotiations. But I'm just saying you can use him in a variety of roles to get him the ball, which allows your volume to go up. He's a volume catch guy.
"You can use him in novelty screens, getting him the ball down the field. I expect him to take another leap. When you make it to the Pro Bowl, or you're an All-Pro, you're pretty good.'

In the 2023 postseason, Flowers fumbled away a potential touchdown in the loss to Kansas City. So not participating in the 2024 playoffs was "killing him."
"It was killing me, for sure," Flowers said following the 27-25 loss to Buffalo. "I want to be out there every game. I want to go through everything they go through, so not being out there, it took a little toll on me, just to watch that and not be able to participate and do what I wanted to do and help the team."
He'll be eligible for a contract extension after the 2025 campaign, and increased usage in the offense could be a useful negotiating tool.

NCAA Sends Clear Message About Athlete Pay and Roster Limits
NCAA Sends Clear Message About Athlete Pay and Roster Limits originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The NCAA is looking to make some changes to its scholarship rules and roster limits in the upcoming 2025-26 season. If approved, the House vs. NCAA settlement will allow schools to start paying athletes directly, along with dictating how many players will be on each roster. Advertisement With the new set of rules, schools will be able to offer scholarships to every player on their roster. Previously, there was a roster cap in place based on the sport. This is huge because it changes how each school builds their roster. Sports like football, basketball, and volleyball only offer full scholarships, but this rule allows for partial scholarships. The amount of space on the roster would not be unlimited but rather increased. Judge Claudia Wilken held a hearing on April 7, but had several concerns about the proposed rule. That was the projected date for the long-awaited settlement to be approved. Wilken made a preliminary approval in October but has delayed the final ruling twice because of concerns about the proposal. If Wilkens does not approve of the settlement, it could be sent to trial. For schools, there is still a chance for approval at the state level. The settlement comes in at $2.8 billion, with players looking to participate in a share of $20.5 million from the media revenues being offered to each school. This is set to begin on July 1. NCAA started in 2020 after Arizona State swimmer Grant House and TCU women's basketball player Sedona Price filed a class-action lawsuit against the NCAA and the five power conferences. The lawsuit sought to get Division I players paid who played before the current NIL era. It could extraordinarily change with how schools handle athletics. Division I schools would have even more on the table than NIL money. Will schools stick to the NCAA guidelines if this proposal is approved? This could change college Division I sports in the long run. Either way, it's in the process of happening. Tampa Bay Buccaneers Offensive Duo Named in NFL's Top 5
Tampa Bay Buccaneers Offensive Duo Named in NFL's Top 5 originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers boast an incredible offensive duo that has already shown to be one of the best pairings in the NFL in just two short seasons together. Advertisement Quarterback Baker Mayfield arrived in Tampa Bay in 2023 after being tossed aside by the likes of Cleveland and Carolina and proceeded to make his first two Pro Bowl appearances of his career. When he joined the Bucs and wideout Mike Evans, magic happened. That's why Pro Football Focus ranked the pair in the top five of offensive duos in the NFL. 5. TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS: BAKER MAYFIELD & MIKE EVANS "Mayfield and Evans both ranked near the top 10 of their respective position rankings heading into the season, with Evans at No. 9 and Mayfield coming at No. 13. Since Mayfield arrived in Tampa Bay in 2023, his 22 big-time throws when targeting Evans are tied for the second most among duos in these rankings, behind only Tua Tagovailoa and Tyreek Hill (28). Mayfield-to-Evans has also produced 2,259 yards over the past two years, which ranks third on this list." Advertisement Mayfield and Evans rank behind, 4. Washington's Jayden Daniels and Terry McLaurin, 3. Houston's C.J. Stroud and Nico Collins, 2. Philadelphia's Jalen Hurts and A.J. Brown and 1. Cincinnati's Joe Burrow and Ja'Marr Chase. Since Mayfield arrived in Tampa Bay in 2023, he's made his first two career Pro Bowls and had back-to-back career passing seasons. Evans continued his now-record-tying streak of 11 straight 1,000-yard seasons with Mayfield throwing him the ball the past two years, and has a chance to stand alone at the top if he can post his 12th in 2025.
