Top-tier hockey returning to Kalgoorlie-Boulder
Five internationals are in line to showcase their skills next month when the Eastern Goldfields Hockey Association hosts a Stiles Electrical Premier League double-header for the second consecutive year.
The 2025 Goldfields Festival of Hockey, starting on May 15, will be headlined on May 17 with women's and men's Premier League matches between Whitford and YMCC.
Those clashes are complemented by community events and elite development sessions, supported by the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries, the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder, and ERM.
This year's program is being launched with Hockey WA's ground-breaking Bridging the Gap course — designed to strengthen communication and collaboration between coaches and umpires.
Local officials will hone their skills at an umpires' briefing and members of the EGHA's academy will be trained by elite coaches.
Instructional clinics will take place at local schools on May 16, followed by a Welcome to Hockey celebration that night.
Headline matches on May 17 are preceded by a junior clinic, led by Stiles Electrical Premier League players, and regular EGHA fixtures.
Both legs of the Premier League double-header will be broadcast live and free on Live Hockey WA.
YMCC's men's squad leads the standings and the club's newly promoted women's team has exceeded expectations to be in fifth position.
Both Whitford teams are chasing their first wins this season — setting up an intriguing double-header in neutral territory.
Jade Smith, Zoe Newman, Cooper Burns, Maddison Brooks, and Penny Squibb are among the internationals earmarked for the Goldfields trip.
The Premier League double-header on May 17 opens with the women's clash at 5.30pm.
