NEW DELHI: National Security Adviser (NSA)
Ajit Doval
is expected to visit Moscow next week, where he is likely to press the Russian government for the expedited delivery of the remaining two S-400 air defence systems.
The NSA's visit comes amid reports that India may place fresh orders for additional units of the same system to bolster its military capabilities.
The trip will follow a visit by a delegation of Indian Members of Parliament to Moscow, beginning Thursday.
Doval's visit carries added significance in the wake of India's recent air strikes in Pakistan under
Operation Sindoor
. The operation saw the use of BrahMos missiles, developed jointly by India and Russia, and the S-400 system, among other Russian-origin defence platforms that played a key role in the conflict.
India is now looking to deepen its political and strategic coordination with Moscow, particularly in countering terror infrastructure based in Pakistan. Sources said that New Delhi expects Russia's continued support in line with the longstanding India-Russia security partnership.
As a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council and a major Eurasian power, Russia has historically played a balancing role in the region.

The Indo-Russian relationship has frequently acted as a counterweight to other global powers in Eurasia. Moscow has also been one of India's most consistent partners in counter-terrorism cooperation over the decades.
Doval is expected to take part in the 13th International Meeting of High Representatives for Security Issues, scheduled to be held in Moscow from May 27 to 29. The event will be chaired by Russian Security Council Secretary Sergey Shoigu.
On the sidelines, Doval is slated to hold bilateral meetings with various national security counterparts, including Shoigu himself.
What is S-400 Sudarshan Chakra?
The S-400 "Sudarshan Chakra" is an Indian name given to the S-400 Triumf air defence missile system acquired from Russia. The term "Sudarshan Chakra" draws from the Epic Mahabharata, symbolising precision, speed, and lethal capability, qualities that closely reflect the S-400's operational strengths.
Developed by Russia's Almaz-Antey, the S-400 is among the most advanced long-range surface-to-air missile systems in the world. India signed a $5.43 billion deal with Russia in 2018 to procure five S-400 units, with the first system deployed in Punjab in 2021 to bolster defences against threats from Pakistan and China. The S-400 can engage aerial targets at ranges of up to 400 km and detect threats as far as 600 km away.
It supports four different types of missiles, enabling it to target everything from aircraft and drones to cruise and ballistic missiles. Equipped with sophisticated phased-array radar, the system can track over 100 targets simultaneously and is mounted on mobile launchers for rapid repositioning.
The deployment of the S-400 significantly strengthens India's multi-layered air defence capabilities, offering a strategic edge in protecting key military and civilian assets. It is widely regarded as a game-changer in South Asia's aerial defence landscape.

Greta Thunberg sails to Gaza with aid: Israel says 'we are prepared', threatens to raid ship
Greta Thunberg sails to Gaza with aid: Israel says 'we are prepared', threatens to raid ship (Pic credit: Instagram/AP) Israel said it is "prepared" and will "act accordingly" to stop Swedish activist Greta Thunberg , who is sailing to Gaza with aid. Meanwhile, the Israeli defence forces have also threatened a special forces raid on the ship that is carrying Thunberg and other activists, according to a report from The Times of London. The 22-year-old set sail Sunday aboard the Madleen, a small vessel operated by the Freedom Flotilla Coalition, carrying essential supplies like milk, rice, protein bars, and tinned food for Palestinians in the war-torn enclave. The Israeli military has responded strongly to the mission, warning that it is "prepared" and "will act accordingly" to prevent the boat from reaching Gaza. "The navy operates day and night to protect Israel's maritime space and borders at sea," Israeli army spokesperson brigadier general Effie Defrin said at a press conference. "We have gained experience in recent years, and we will act accordingly." The Madleen, which departed from Sicily on June 2, is part of a long-running effort by the Freedom Flotilla Coalition, a non-violent international movement that has sent ships to Gaza since 2010 to protest the Israeli blockade and deliver humanitarian relief. Thunberg shared photos from the boat wearing a keffiyeh scarf and holding a Palestinian flag, describing the voyage as an act of solidarity. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Council or Housing Association Tenant? Shortly after departure, some of the 11 other activists on board reported being followed by drones. These were later identified as Greek coast guard devices, not Israeli surveillance. This isn't the first time the flotilla has faced resistance. In early May, another vessel in the coalition, Conscience, was reportedly damaged in international waters off Malta. Activists suspect it was hit by an Israeli drone, though Israel has not confirmed any involvement. The Freedom Flotilla Coalition maintains that its goal is peaceful and humanitarian. On Tuesday, the group posted on social media, "Together, we can open a people's sea corridor to Gaza." Israel, meanwhile, recently eased its blockade on Gaza, but aid groups say the flow of relief remains insufficient. The United Nations and international organisations continue to call for expanded access to food, medicine, and other basic necessities in Gaza, where civilian suffering has worsened amid ongoing conflict.

'Narender surrendered to Adani, China': Congress ups ante with fresh jibe at PM
The Congress on Thursday upped the ante with its " Narender-surrender " jibe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi , alleging that he "surrendered" before billionaire Gautam Adani as well as to China. There was no immediate response from the government or the Adani Group over the Congress's accusations but the business conglomerate has, in the past, rejected all such allegations against it. Congress leader Ajoy Kumar said the duo of Adani and Modi has left behind the Jai-Veeru duo from the film "Sholay". "The process of Narendra Modi's surrender before (US President Donald) Trump has happened after many years of practice," Kumar said at a press conference at the Indira Bhawan, the All India Congress Committee (AICC) headquarters here. "Wherever Narendra Modi goes or whatever Adani wants -- he gets the contract.... The diplomatic moves of India's prime minister have helped industrialist Mr A to expand his international business interests in ports, airports, electricity, coal mining and weapons," the Congress leader claimed and cited examples from various countries. Live Events "Narenderji has hurt his country's relations with her neighbours as well as with other countries by brazenly promoting Mr A's ambitions. The growth of the Mr A Group outside India over the past decade or so has been closely aligned with the diplomatic efforts of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi," he alleged. Many of "Mr A's" international deals were struck soon after Modi's official visits to certain countries or after heads of government visited India, Kumar claimed. Alleging that Modi had also "surrendered" before China, he said "Narender-Surrender" must apologise to the country for his "clean chit" to the neighbouring country on its invasion of Indian territory in 2020. Kumar claimed that China has vowed to stand by Pakistan in defending its "sovereignty" and "territorial integrity", and called it its "iron-clad friend". "China's foreign minister, Wang Yi, recently gave a statement that his country would continue to stand by Pakistan in upholding its sovereignty, territorial integrity and national independence. China has supplied arms worth over USD 20 billion to Pakistan," Kumar claimed. The Congress had said on Wednesday that it is wrong to think that "Narendra Modi is India and India is Narendra Modi", as it slammed the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for its criticism of Rahul Gandhi over his dig at the prime minister, and doubled down on the "Narender-surrender" jibe. Gandhi had said in Bhopal on Tuesday that "as soon as Trump signalled from there, picked up the phone and said, 'what are you doing Modiji? Narender, surrender'.... And Modiji obeyed Trump's orders with Ji Huzoor'". Urging people to remember 1971, Gandhi said back then, a phone call had not come but the United States had sent its 7th fleet, weapons and an aircraft carrier, but prime minister Indira Gandhi did not surrender and said she would go by national interest. Referring to the BJP and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), Gandhi said they are habituated to writing "surrender letters" since Independence. The BJP has accused Gandhi of insulting the armed forces with his "surrender" barb at Modi, saying it amounted to undermining the success of Operation Sindoor. BJP national spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi said the Congress leader has surpassed even Pakistan's army chief, prime minister and the terror masterminds based there in speaking in support of the neighbouring country, and alleged that his jibes reflect a sick and dangerous mindset.
