Robert De Niro supports daughter Airyn after she comes out as transgender

Al Bawaba01-05-2025

ALBAWABA - After his daughter, Airyn, came out as transgender, Hollywood actor Robert De Niro stated he was expressing "love and support" for her.
Airyn De Niro recently discussed "stepping into this new identity" in an interview with the LGBTQ+ newspaper Them.
"I loved and supported Aaron as my son, and now I love and support Airyn as my daughter," the well-known father of Airyn said in a statement to Variety.
He went on, "I don't know what the big deal is," "I love all my children."

As a transgender woman, the 29-year-old daughter of the Goodfellas actor stated that she started her transition last year because "there's a difference between being visible and being seen."
"I've been noticeable. I don't believe anyone has seen me yet.
The actress Laverne Cox was an inspiration to Airyn, the daughter of De Niro and Toukie Smith, who expressed her desire to honor her Black queer ancestors and increase trans visibility.
"Seeing trans women succeed and being open and honest, particularly [in] public places like social media..." You know what?" I ask. Perhaps I still have time.

Regarding her experience as one of seven De Niro children, she continued, "I am thankful that both of my parents agreed to keep me out of the spotlight, even though no parent is perfect."
"They have told me they wanted me to have as much of a normal childhood as possible."
Following the Supreme Court's majority decision that a woman is defined by her biological sex under equalities law, transgender women in the UK have come under more scrutiny recently.
The only judge in the UK to publicly identify as transgender is now preparing to challenge the government in the European Court of Human Rights over the decision, claiming it infringed upon her human rights.
Judge Lord Hodge emphasized that the law still protects transgender individuals from discrimination and stated that the decision should not be interpreted as a victory for one side over the other.

Blake Lively drops two claims against Justin Baldoni

Blake Lively has withdrawn two major claims against director and actor Justin Baldoni in their ongoing legal dispute stemming from their work on the 2024 film It Ends With Us. According to court documents filed Monday, Lively is seeking to dismiss her claims of intentional and negligent infliction of emotional distress. The move comes after Baldoni's legal team requested access to her medical and therapy records to support their defense. Lively's lawyers told Variety the decision was a strategic effort to 'streamline and focus' her case, which still includes allegations of sexual harassment, retaliation, and defamation. Baldoni's attorneys, however, opposed the withdrawal 'without prejudice,' warning it could allow the claims to be refiled later. The legal battle began in December 2024 when Lively sued Baldoni, accusing him of harassment and a smear campaign. In January, Baldoni countersued Lively and her husband, actor Ryan Reynolds, alleging civil extortion and defamation. A trial is expected to begin in March 2026.

Robert De Niro calls for protest against 'philistine' Trump as Cannes opens

ALBAWABA - Robert De Niro slams Trump during Cannes opening, urging protests against his film tariff policies. Also Read Kim Kardashian returns to court over Infamous 2016 case During the opening ceremony of the Cannes Film Festival on Tuesday, Hollywood legend Robert De Niro used his speech for the lifetime achievement award to call for protests against "philistine" U.S. President Donald Trump and his planned film tariff. The 81-year-old actor accepted the prize from longtime partner Leonardo DiCaprio on stage at the opulent Grand Theatre Lumiere with other Oscar-winning performers like Halle Berry, Juliette Binoche, and Quentin Tarantino. Trump "has reduced support and funding for education, the humanities, and the arts." According to De Niro, who starred in movies like "Taxi Driver," "Raging Bull," and more recently, "Killers of the Flower Moon," he has now declared a 100% levy on movies made outside of the United States. US actor Robert De Niro (Photo by Sameer AL-DOUMY / AFP) De Niro urged "everyone who cares about liberty" to demonstrate against Trump, saying, "You can't put a price on creativity, but apparently, you can put a tariff on it." The inclusion of films from Gaza, Ukraine, and Iran this year, together with Trump's tariff announcement just before the festival, has drawn more attention to the world outside Cannes, despite the organizers' insistence that they wish to stay away from politics and concentrate on the films. This year's jury chair, Binoche, used her address to honor Palestinian photojournalist Fatma Hassona, who was killed in an Israeli bombardment in Gaza and is the focus of a documentary that will be screened at Cannes. Before the audience settled down to watch the opening film, the French comedy "Leave One Day," Tarantino, the American director who started his career at Cannes, formally inaugurated the festival, set to run until May 24. Heidi Klum, a German model, wore a pink gown that resembled petals and trailed far behind her. However, it appears that this was not long enough to prevent her from being allowed to enter the red carpet after the organizers recently altered the dress code to forbid nudity and excessive trains. Berry, who is also a member of this year's jury, revealed earlier on Tuesday that she had to make a last-minute wardrobe change due to the new dress rule. On the red carpet, she donned a black-and-white gown that lacked a train.

Cannes Film Festival imposes 'no nudity' rule

ALBAWABA- Ahead of its opening ceremony, the Cannes Film Festival recently made headlines after imposing a new "no nudity" rule for its attendees, sparking debate and criticism on social media. The new rule was reportedly implemented to combat revealing dresses, such as Bianca Censori's recent outfit or the lack thereof at the 2025 Grammys and revealing outfits present at the festival in previous years. The festival, which will take place in Cannes, France, from May 13 to May 24, will host different forms of media such as films and documentaries, alongside renowned celebrities including Robert De Niro, Denzel Washington, Jodie Foster, Tom Cruise, and many more. The Cannes Film Festival is banning nudity on the red carpet and introducing a 'decency' dress code. Anyone not respecting the dress code will be denied entry onto the red carpet. — Brittany Hugoboom (@BritHugoboom) May 12, 2025 Cannes' new "no nudity" red carpet rule sparked widespread confusion and debate on social media due to its ambiguity, as it doesn't disclose what kind of nudity isn't allowed. The rule added to the festival's guidelines 24 hours before its opening ceremony states, "Nudity is prohibited on the red carpet, as well as any other area of the festival," for "decency reasons." This marks a new era for Cannes since it's usually not so uptight with outfit rules, such as imposing a ban on nudity, so stylists and attendees might have to change some things if they want to access the renowned festival this year.
