'Wicked' Director Jon M. Chu Shares How He Will Celebrate AAPI Heritage Month With His 5 Kids

When it comes to celebrating May's Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, Jon M. Chu knows exactly what he wants to do. That's because the father of five has been waiting for this moment all his life. According to the filmmaker, he plans to introduce his kids, who he shares with wife Kristin Hodge, something that he has done with his family every year.

The father of five spoke with People magazine about his upcoming plans.
"I usually go home to my family," Chu said of his hometown of Los Altos, Calif. "They have a Chinese restaurant that's been there for 55 years, and they do a whole dinner and all this stuff."
Chu has decided it to take his kids along for the ride, leaving their current town of Los Angeles behind so that they can see a bit of where their father grew up while enjoying some of the fine cuisine the neighborhood has to offer. "They do not get enough Chinese food out here in L.A," he joked.
That may be because Chu's father owns the family's favorite Chinese food place, which has become a fan-favorite among Hollywood A-listers. And, it's something of a family legacy, according to Chu, who says that he used to help out around the place when he was a kid.
"We used to fold wontons when we were growing up with my grandma," he revealed, nothing that the end product was actually one of his favorite dishes at the restaurant.
Chu and Hodge share five children together, 7-year-old Willow, 5-year-old Jonathan Heights, 3-year-old Ruby, 2-year-old Iggy, and 6-month-old Sky. As for their upcoming visit, it sounds like Chu is very excited to introduce his kiddos to the restaurant, and even plans to ask his dad if he can bring the kids into the kitchen for a little behind-the-scenes action, as well.

‘Harry Potter' actor Tom Felton to reprise role as Draco Malfoy – on stage

British actor Tom Felton, best known for playing Draco Malfoy in the 'Harry Potter' film franchise, will reprise his role as the arrogant antagonist – this time, on stage. Felton announced his role in the Broadway production of 'Harry Potter and the Cursed Child' on Instagram Thursday, in a joint post with the official Harry Potter and Harry Potter on Broadway Instagram pages. In a joint Instagram reel, captioned 'Guess who's back,' Felton adorned himself in the familiar black suit with a wand in the pocket, rings and a long blonde wig, before ominously saying, 'scared, Potter?' 'The blonde hair came back on and I immediately started crying for some reason,' Felton told the 'Today' show on Thursday. 'It's such a huge part of my childhood. It's like me going back to high school,' he continued. The actor originally portrayed the protagonist Harry Potter's schoolboy rival when he was a child. The 37-year-old described his return to the 'Harry Potter' universe as a 'pinch me' moment, adding, 'I keep thinking I'm dreaming.' Felton said the Broadway show will begin where the 'Harry Potter' movies ended, with Harry and Draco as fathers 19 years later who are sending their children to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry for the first time. 'When Harry Potter's head-strong son Albus befriends the son of his fiercest rival, Draco Malfoy, it sparks an unbelievable new journey for them all – with the power to change the past and future forever,' a synopsis reads on the theater production's website. 'I let go of that character 16 years ago and now getting the chance to step back in his shoes as a father this time, in a new story – I get to meet Draco as an adult, which is very exciting,' Felton said. CNN has reached out to Felton's representatives for further comment. Performances of the Broadway play will run at the Lyric Theatre in New York City from November 11 to March 22, with pre-sale tickets available to purchase from Tuesday. 'Harry Potter and the Cursed Child' debuted in London's West End in 2016, before travelling to Broadway. The two-part play has won many accolades, including several Olivier and Tony Awards.

Harry Potter's Tom Felton Returns as Draco Malfoy, but Not in Movies

Tom Felton teased his return as Draco Malfoy during a red carpet appearance at the 2025 Gotham Television Awards. While speaking to reporters, he confirmed he would revisit the iconic role on Broadway, marking a new chapter in the universe. Tom Felton confirmed he will be joining the cast of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child as Draco Malfoy during a June 5 appearance on TODAY, announcing he will join the production for a 19-week run starting November 11, 2025. This marks Felton's Broadway debut and his first time portraying Draco Malfoy since the final Harry Potter film in 2011. Felton said, 'It's very much a pinch-me situation. I let go of that character 16 years ago, and now I get to step back into his shoes, as a father this time, in a new story.' He added, 'The play is such an independent story from the 'Potter' films… now we're no longer children. We actually are the parents.' The production takes place 19 years after the events of the original series, with adult versions of Harry, Draco, Ron, and Hermione sending their children to Hogwarts. Felton becomes the first actor from the original film cast to join the Broadway adaptation. 'Joining this production will be a full-circle moment for me,' he said. The play's producers, Sonia Friedman and Colin Callender, said in a statement, 'Tom's return to Hogwarts bridges generations of fans and breathes new life into a beloved story.' Felton described the moment he donned Draco's wig again: 'I just immediately cried. It was just sort of like a blast from the past.' The Lyric Theatre in New York City will host the play until March 22, 2026. Presale tickets open on June 10 at 11 a.m. ET, with general sales starting June 12. Since premiering in London in 2016, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child has become Broadway's highest-grossing non-musical play. Originally reported by Anubhav Chaudhry on SuperHeroHype.
