Fauquier County sergeant reunites missing 91-year-old man with daughter
FAUQUIER COUNTY, Va. () — A sergeant in Fauquier County is being recognized after he quickly reunited a missing 91-year-old man with dementia back with his daughter Tuesday.
According to the Fauquier County Sheriff's Office (FCSO), on March 18 just after 3 a.m., the Emergency Communications Center received a call from the daughter and caregiver of her 91-year-old father.
She told dispatchers that she searched their home, in The Plains area, but could not find her dad and the back door was left open. She also explained he suffered from dementia and is enrolled in Project Lifesaver with the FCSO.

According to the sheriff's office, the Project Lifesaver International (PLI) program is a public non-profit organization providing training and technology to help find people with cognitive disorders prone to wandering off. Each person enrolled in the program is given a bracelet that emits a unique frequency from a piece of tracking equipment.
The emergency communications team sent deputies and medics to the home along with Sgt. J. Welch who is trained in the PLI program.
Once on the scene, Welch began taking signal readings with a device around the home but could not pick up a tracker. He then walked into a wooded area near a creek and up a small hill, where his device began to capture a signal connected to the missing man's bracelet.

As Welch followed the signal, he was led to a neighbor's property, where he found the man inside the back seat of the neighbor's vehicle.
The search took only 33 minutes, according to the FCSO.
Officials noted that 18 clients are currently enrolled in the PLI program.

LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. – A suspect tracked obituaries of multiple St. Louis County residents who recently died, then broke into their homes to steal jewelry, weapons and other high-priced items, police say. The suspect allegedly left his own debit card behind at one home, eventually linking him to multiple burglaries. The St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney's Office has charged Brandon Welch, 33, of St. Louis, with second-degree burglary and two counts of stealing. Homicide investigation underway in north St. Louis County The burglary leading to Welch's charges occurred on May 6, 2024 in the 2600 block of Blackforest Drive in south St. Louis County. According to court documents obtained by FOX 2, Welch acted with another person to steal a Lowes credit card, jewelry and a firearm from the home. Investigators say Welch left behind his own debit card at the scene, along with a card belonging to the victim of another apparent burglary. While investigating, police learned that a neighbor's surveillance camera captured a Dodge Ram at the scene for nearly four hours, which later linked Welch to the crime. After the burglary, the victim's Lowe's card was used to purchase more than $3,000 of merchandise for pickups. A driver in a Dodge Ram later arrived at the Lowe's location to retrieve items, but the store had been alerted to possible fraud and ultimately stopped the transaction. That's when Welch allegedly called Lowe's twice in an attempt to complete the pickup. Investigators then began tracking his phone activity, which revealed unusual patterns. Subscribe Now According to court documents, Welch's Gmail account showed that he search for obituaries in the St. Louis region, along with directions for at least two homes of deceased victims. Welch's Gmail account captured an IP address activity that linked his location to Black Forest Drive on the day of the burglary. Phone logs determined Welch made 15 calls to a specific phone number shortly before the Dodge Ram pulled up to the victim's home. Authorities issued a warrant for Welch's arrest on Tuesday, per Missouri court records. It's unclear if any additional suspects are facing or could face charges in this case. Decatur Police use radio transmitting bracelet to locate lost or missing individuals
DECATUR, Ala. (WHNT) — The Decatur Police Department wants to remind the community of a resource they offer, known as Project Lifesaver. It's a search and rescue program targeted for individuals who have cognitive disorders such as Autism and Alzheimer's that may be prone to wander or get lost. 'The bracelets have radio transmitters in them, so in the event they get separated from their family, they transmit a radio frequency, and that just really closes in on the amount of time it takes to find them,' Irene Cardenas Martinez said. Martinez is the Public Information Liaison for the Decatur Police Department. When a client signs up for the program, they are given a radio frequency tracking number. That number sits inside the bracelet and inside their computer system. To qualify, they say an individual must: Have a caregiver with them at least 75% of the time. Wear the bracelet at all times. Never drive a vehicle at any time. If an individual is lost, they can enter that number into the Project Lifesaver device, and it tells them where they are located. Elderly man killed in collision with dump truck in Frederick County, sheriff says
FREDERICK COUNTY, Md. () — A man was killed in a two-vehicle collision with a dump truck during rush hour on Thursday morning in Lewistown, the Frederick County Sheriff's Office (FCSO) said. FCSO responded to the crash at around 9 a.m. at the intersection of Old Frederick Road and Devilbiss Bridge. Police learned a 2015 Toyota Highlander was turning when it entered the path of a 1999 Mack dump truck. The two collided at the intersection. Five people displaced by Nokesville house fire The driver of the Toyota, 78-year-old Willie Hensley Jr. of Thurmont, died at the scene. A passenger in the same car sustained serious injuries and was airlifted by Maryland State Police to a trauma center, where they were in stable condition as of Friday afternoon. The driver of the dump truck was evaluated at the scene and reportedly declined medical treatment.
