RIYADH — Saudi Arabia's evolving role in global diplomacy and its commitment to fostering peace took center stage at the Saudi Media Forum on Thursday.
During a panel discussion, experts examined how the Kingdom is increasingly shaping international relations through strategic partnerships and conflict resolution efforts.
Editor-in-Chief of Okaz newspaper, Jameel Al-Theyabi, highlighted the shift in global perceptions of Saudi Arabia over the years. 'In the past, people questioned Saudi Arabia's role on the world stage, but now we see policies that actively address global challenges,' Al-Theyabi said. He pointed to the Kingdom's diplomatic outreach to Syria and its role as a mediator between major powers like Russia and the United States as key examples of this transformation.
Political analyst and writer Jasser AlJasser attributed Saudi Arabia's rising diplomatic influence to Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman's Vision 2030. 'The Kingdom has transformed itself from a conservative country to a global leader,' he noted. AlJasser also praised Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan, calling him a key figure in Saudi Arabia's diplomatic success, particularly in stabilizing the region, with a focus on Syria and the ongoing situation in Gaza.
Journalist and writer Mishary Al-Thaidi offered a broader perspective on the Kingdom's role in shaping the future of international diplomacy. 'Saudi Arabia is becoming a bridge to peace, promoting ethical diplomacy in a world that often struggles with power struggles,' he said. Al-Dhaidi emphasized that the Kingdom has remained free from interventionist policies that have destabilized the region, citing its non-violent approach in countries like Iraq.
The discussion also highlighted Saudi Arabia's humanitarian contributions, with Al-Theyabi stressing the Kingdom's deep-rooted tradition of supporting those in need. 'Saudi Arabia has opened its doors to refugees, providing not just aid but also opportunities like education scholarships,' he said, emphasizing that generosity and compassion are core to Saudi culture.
On the issue of Palestine, AlJasser reaffirmed Saudi Arabia's unwavering stance on a two-state solution. He emphasized that the Shura Council has made it clear that there will be no diplomatic ties with Israel until such a solution is reached. 'Our position on Palestine is steadfast,' he said. 'We continue to advocate for peace and the reconstruction of Gaza.' AlJasser also underscored the Kingdom's focus on regional stability, stressing that Saudi Arabia's foreign policy is centered on peace and development for both itself and its neighbors.
Al-Dhaidi concluded the session by reiterating that Saudi Arabia's diplomatic approach is grounded in ethics and mutual respect. 'We have no hidden agenda,' he said. 'We aim to build strong, healthy relationships—not just with Arab countries, but with the world.'
The panel concluded with a clear message: Saudi Arabia is increasingly asserting itself as a key diplomatic player, working toward global peace and stability while staying true to its values.
From Feb. 19-21, government officials, industry leaders, and media professionals gathered at the Saudi Media Forum to explore Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030, the future of media, and the Kingdom's expanding global influence.
