Ever since they blew up online with Holy Roller, Spiritbox have been stepping up as one of metal's most exciting new bands. From collaborations (both on-stage and off) with artists like Architects, Megan Thee Stallion and Jinjer to tours with Bring Me The Horizon and Korn, they've stepped up time and again and now they're ready to present the next step in their artistic vision with new album Tsunami Sea.
To celebrate the record's arrival, Hammer sat down with guitarist Mike Stringer and vocalist Courtney LaPlante to offer a track-by-track guide to the record.
A rabid opener that immediately plunges us into a world much darker than anything on Eternal Blue. Mike: 'I would describe Fata Morgana as the mission statement of the album. It just comes out swinging, and it is very, very heavy."
Three and a half minutes of bleak and mechanical tech metal, the pits aren't going to know what's hit them this summer.
Mike: 'I would say it's a continuation of Fata Morgana and probably the heaviest song on the record.' Courtney: 'Black Rainbow is FREAKY!'
Calling to mind Architects' Doomsday, this is Spiritbox at their most ethereal and melodic.
Courtney: 'It's like a little bit of hopefulness. The first part of the album that has a little bit of hopefulness and yearning in it, and not just anger and sadness.'
Evoking Keep Sweet: Pray And Obey, a sordid Netflix documentary about the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, this is the perfect blend of beauty and brutality.
Mike: 'It's fun and very catchy. That's one of my favourites…'
Courtney: '… but it's extremely bitter. It's a bitter taste in your mouth – a great way of trying to have someone who isn't a woman empathise with what it feels like to be a woman.'
Drenched in nightmarish dread, 'You all deserve each other!' is already one of 2025's finest mosh calls.
Mike: 'Hater song.'
Courtney: 'I hate so many people. People think I'm so positive or, rather, neutral. No! I'm not neutral. I just don't want to be dunking on people that I fucking hate online.'
Mike: 'So we made a song about it.'
Instantly recognisable as the work of its creators, atmospheric and emotional – the title track is quintessential Spiritbox.
Courtney: 'It's the feelings of never being good enough and the sad part is that it's by your own standards of why you will never feel good enough… and sinking down into depression.'
Mike: 'I'd say it was the sister song of Eternal Blue.'
A bittersweet love letter to their home, indebted to Deftones with a gorgeous, silky chorus.
Courtney: 'It's about Vancouver Island. It's the haven with two faces.'
Mike: 'This was us adventuring back to our roots in a more proggy direction. It's a wild ride and it's long.'
Explosive and offkilter, the 'weird kid' of the album picks up where Eternal Blue's Yellowjacket left off.
Mike: 'That would be 'experimental heavy'. It's very close to Holy Roller in a sense, as far as how quick the song is and how relentless it is. It's a wild one.'
Rave vibes! This trancey, electronic-heavy track hints at an intriguing future direction.
Mike: 'It's an experimental song we've always wanted to make, and it happened very organically, and I'm very proud of that one.'
Courtney: 'I think it's a new side of our band.'
Spiritbox have made massive walls of sound their calling card, and this track boasts a stonker, with one hell of a breakdown.
Mike: 'Ride The Wave is another song that I've always wanted to make. It's very inspired by 28 Days Later instrumentally. It has my favourite chorus on the record.'
Courtney: 'This is the first song that I tracked vocals to, and you couldn't feel my sadness and melancholy in the takes that I did. It has a bit of a fun march to it, you can dance a little to it, but it's sad.'
Hitting like the breath of life after surfacing from the deep, Tsunami Sea's serene closer shimmers with hope.
Courtney: 'We wrote Deep End before Bill passed, but that song now, to me, is my beacon to him."

Big changes coming to Disneyland: ‘Monsters, Inc.' is out; ‘Avatar,' ‘Coco,' ‘Avengers' are in
Say goodbye to Monstropolis and hello to Pandora — Disneyland Resort is shuttering its 'Monsters, Inc.' ride to make way for a new 'Avatar' experience inspired by the oceans of James Cameron's sci-fi world. Monsters, Inc. Mike & Sulley to the Rescue! will close in early 2026 to allow construction to begin on an 'Avatar'-themed land in the Hollywood Backlot area of Disneyland California Resort, Disney announced Thursday. Whereas the 'Avatar'-themed ride at Disney's Animal Kingdom in Florida is based on Cameron's first 'Avatar' film, the new Anaheim experience is shaped around the Pandora of 'Avatar: The Way of Water.' Imagineers first announced the 'Avatar' destination at a fan convention last summer, describing it, in true Disney fashion, as 'dynamic, intense and an emotional experience on a grand scale.' Official details on what the attraction will entail and a timeline for construction remain under wraps. Concept imagery shared on the Disney Parks Blog shows guests aboard a boat traveling through a bioluminescent lagoon and encountering a massive whale-like creature called a Tulkun that leaps from the ocean — hinting at the possibility of a water-based ride. The closure of the 'Monsters, Inc.' ride, which opened in 2006, marks the end of an era for fans of the Pixar classic. The family-friendly ride took guests on a fast-paced journey through the streets of Monstropolis, re-creating scenes from the original 2001 film as guests raced to help monsters Mike and Sulley rescue their human friend Boo. In addition to creating the 'Avatar' experience, the resort is working on a new 'Coco'-themed attraction, two new 'Avengers' attractions and a parking structure. Disney announced Thursday that construction on the 'Coco' adventure was set to begin in the fall. 'The attraction will be filled with the characters — and music! — you know and love from the beloved movie, as you join Miguel on a trip to the land of the dead,' said Disney in a blog post. 'This marks the first-ever 'Coco' ride in a Disney park!' No timeline is available for the construction of the attractions in the Avengers Campus at Disneyland California Adventure. The new parking structure will be built on the east side of Disneyland Resort and provide around 6,000 parking spaces as well as shuttle and rideshare areas. A pedestrian bridge will be added to connect Harbor Boulevard to the transportation hub. 'This is just the beginning of exciting growth here at Disneyland Resort,' Disney said in a blog post. 'We look forward to sharing more about all of these projects in the future.'

James Gunn says Peacemaker season 2 has a "really, really, really big cameo" as he teases key connections between the HBO show and the upcoming Superman
When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. All eyes might be in Superman right now as it is the first movie in the new DC Universe (DCU), but James Gunn is already teasing many surprises and cameos for the upcoming Peacemaker season 2. The show is set to return in August after a three-year hiatus. According to the DC boss, that big gap in between seasons has allowed him to weave the story into the DCU in a more organic way. "I developed it along the way, in conjunction with the other DC projects that we're doing, so it's very much connected to Superman and it's very much connected to what comes after," Gunn told Entertainment Weekly. "I had a rough idea of what I was going to do, but it was actually quite different than what the show ended up being," he added. The first Peacemaker season 2 trailer already revealed some unexpected cameos from the new Superman, including Nathan Fillion's Green Lantern Guy Gardner, Isabela Merced's Hawkgirl, and Sean Gunn's Maxwell Lord. They are not the only ones, though. "You've seen what we call the QUC, the Quantum Unfolding Chamber, in the first season of Peacemaker, and we see more about that technology in Superman," Gunn explains about the connections between the HBO show and Superman, revealing that "the QUC is the center of the story in Peacemaker season 2". "We see a lot of different characters from Superman in the [season], [including] Isabela and Nathan and Sean, and then we see a bunch of other characters later on in the season from other parts of the DCU and from Superman. There might even be one really, really, really big cameo near the end of the show," he teased. Could that big cameo also be from Superman? Could it be Superman himself, or even Supergirl? Or is it perhaps related to the old DCEU? We will have to wait and see how DC Studios' grand plans in DCU Chapter One: Gods and Monsters unfold. As for the plot for Peacemaker season 2, Gunn also revealed that the story will follow John Cena's hero while he struggles to be taken seriously among the superhero community. "We come into season 2 with Peacemaker knowing that he saved the world from the Butterflies. He thinks he's a big star now, and he should be a real superhero. And we see at the very beginning of episode 1 that he's meeting with the group of superheroes from Superman, and he's basically interviewing for membership in the group. But they just mock him the entire time, so he's not taken seriously," he said. Peacemaker season 2 will be released on August 21, 2025.
