Charles Woodson Jr. talks new Michigan offer, legendary father's input
The New Year has been very good to Charles Woodson Jr. The Orlando (Fla.) Lake Nona High School defensive back has not only added his first scholarship offers, but has seen bigger and bigger programs jump in on the hot streak. Advertisement It hit another level on Wednesday night when Michigan came calling. The son of the former UM Heisman Trophy winner and NFL legend of the same name, Jr. also got to experience the news with his father simultaneously. "The secondary coach (LaMar Morgan) called my head coach a week ago," Woodson Jr. said. "Then the head coach (Sherrone Moore) told me and my dad to call him. "We're pretty excited about it. I mean it's where my dad went so it's pretty special and it's a huge program so it means a lot." The rising-junior prep recruit has of course been to Ann Arbor in the past, where he was able to experience the legacy he now has an opportunity to continue. Advertisement A return trip is likely to materialize soon. "I'll find a date," Woodson Jr. said. "I went when I was in eighth grade and the place is real cool." Advertisement Still, the college and NFL legend may have nudged a bit when his alma mater came calling. "You know my dad is excited for real," he said. The Woodsons learned of the offer news amid a trek through the Lone Star State. A&M hosted the No. 11 nickel projection for a workout and he "loved the hospitality" earlier in the week. Texas also had them on campus this week. Outside of LNHS workouts, the emerging recruit said he is unsure of additional college visit plans at this time. As a sophomore in 2024, Woodson Jr. notched an interception and multiple pass breakups for the Lions. He also registered 53 total tackles and recovered a fumble, per MaxPreps.

The Sports Bra, a women's sports bar franchise, is coming to Boston
The Sports Bra, a franchise dedicated to women's sports, is expanding to Boston, the company announced this week. The big picture: The Sports Bra is will be the third Boston-area bar to show predominantly women's sports — a space that's on the rise in the U.S. What's happening: The Sports Bra didn't say when or where the Boston franchise would open, but noted that it would air games from the Boston Fleet hockey team, Boston Legacy FC and other women's sports teams. Franchises are also opening in Indianapolis, Las Vegas and St. Louis, the company announced. The Sports Bra will be in good company in Boston, joining Parlor Sports in Somerville and fully-women-owned Drawdown Brewing in Jamaica Plain. Zoom out: Six women's sports bars have opened this year, with as many as 17 on the way. What they're saying: The bars "galvanize the community," says Kaitlyn Laabs, who is making a documentary about women's sports bars called "Untapped." "They've become centers of social, economic and political power in the communities where they exist." The vibe: Bar owners mix the fun and camaraderie of team sports with an atmosphere that's welcoming to everyone, including nontraditional sports fans and the LGBTQ+ community. "Let's bring people in that have always been a little timid about going to a sports bar," says Monica Brady, co-owner of upcoming Kansas City women's sports bar The Dub. Friction point: Some bar owners, such as Watch Me! owner Jax Diener, have gotten sexist and anti-LGBTQ+ hate. Between the lines: Many of these bar owners also struggle to secure small-business loans, increasing the barrier to opening, Laabs says. Brady tells Axios she and her business partner were rejected for a loan four times. She said lenders cited high collateral requirements, risk, and inexperience in the industry as factors in the rejections. Many women's sports bar owners have turned to crowdfunding. Stunning stat: In 2023, women received less than a third of the Small Business Administration's loans despite owning about 43% of America's small businesses, according to the SBA.

Baltimore Ravens' Zay Flowers Has 'No Limits' From Knee Injury
Baltimore Ravens' Zay Flowers Has 'No Limits' From Knee Injury originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Zay Flowers missed the Baltimore Ravens' 2024 playoff run with a knee injury. Flowers was able to avoid surgery during the offseason and is on track to be fully healthy for a 2025 campaign. Advertisement "My knee's great," Flowers said on Tuesday. "I feel 100%. I feel like I'm ready to go, ready for the season, no limits." Flowers' return to form has caused offensive coordinator Todd Monken to think of new ways to utilize Flowers. 'We've just got to get him the ball more,' Monken said, via the Ravens' website. 'He's an unbelievable football player. He's not only an outside receiver that has elite route-running skills, but he's unbelievable with the ball in his hands. So you have a guy that really plays two spots. I'm not sure he can use that in his contract negotiations. But I'm just saying you can use him in a variety of roles to get him the ball, which allows your volume to go up. He's a volume catch guy. You can use him in novelty screens, getting him the ball down the field. I expect him to take another leap. When you make it to the Pro Bowl, or you're an All-Pro, you're pretty good." Monken made mention of Flowers' contract, as Flowers is extension eligible for the first time in 2025. If Monken can feature Flowers in the offense more and he can stay healthy, the former first-round pick could be looking for a hefty payday. Advertisement Flowers posted his first career 1,000 yard season in 2024, talking 1,059 yards and four touchdowns on 74 receptions, earning his first Pro Bowl appearance. It's not just Monken who wants to get Flowers more involved. According to Flowers, Lamar Jackson is already trying to take team bonding to the next level in 2025, bringing the group together as a whole and developing more chemistry. "This year, he wants to do a lot more meeting, he wants to do team stuff, do a lot more personal stuff with us just to get that team comradery to a good level," Flowers said. Flowers and Jackson worked out together in South Florida during the offseason, as they have done in years past. Flowers said those extra workout sessions are always beneficial to getting on the same page with his quarterback. Advertisement "It's just getting our timing down," Flowers said. "Like if we're running routes, he'll say: 'Run it this way' or 'I like how you ran it this way.' It's talking a lot and detailing the small things that he wants to get down."
