Raja Raghuvanshi Murder Weapon Found, Cops Say He Tried To Fight Back
The weapon used to murder Indore-based businessman Raja Raghuvanshi, while he was on his honeymoon in Meghalaya, has been recovered and a police released a photo of it. Of the five people accused of conspiring to murder him and carrying out the act, Vishal Chauhan allegedly attacked Raja with the machete first. Sources told NDTV that the weapon was used to attack Raja repeatedly, even as the man tried to save himself. Police have also found during the probe that the accused had bought the machete from near Guwahati's railway station. Raja and Sonam Raghuvanshi were in Meghalaya for their honeymoon when they went missing on May 23. Raja's body was found in a gorge near Weisawdong Falls on June 2 while a search continued for Sonam. She emerged in Uttar Pradesh's Ghazipur, around 1,200 km away from the crime spot, on June 9 and surrendered before police. Later, Sonam, her alleged lover Raj Kushwaha, Vishal Chauhan, Akash Rajput and Anand Kurmi were arrested for hatching the murder conspiracy. A video recently emerged showing Raja and Sonam trekking through the mountains of Meghalaya. On the day of the murder, the couple had checked out of the home stay and set out on a trek to Cherrapunji. A guide who had seen them last saw the couple and offered his services, but they refused. Around 2,000 steps into the around 3,000-steps route, the three accused joined them. Raja's family has demanded a narco-analysis test on prime accused Sonam's parents and said the family suspects the involvement of more people in the killing. It was initially suspected that Sonam and Raj hired the three other accused to kill Raja, but it later emerged that they were friends of his. Sonam's brother Govind attended the Hindu rituals held on the 13th day after a death, although Raja's family said he had not been invited. "I am here to seek forgiveness. If anyone suspects us, we are asking to be investigated. We stand with Raja Raghuvanshi's family," he told reporters. Govind had also taken part in Raja Raghuvanshi's post-death ritual in Ujjain on June 13.

ED issues fresh summons to Robert Vadra in Sanjay Bhandri linked PMLA case
The Enforcement Directorate has issued a fresh summons to Robert Vadra, the businessman husband of Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, for questioning in a money laundering case linked to UK-based arms consultant Sanjay Bhandari, official sources said on Monday. He has been asked to depose before the federal probe agency here on June 17 for the recording of his statement in this case that is being investigated under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), the sources said. Vadra, 56, was called for questioning in the case on June 10 but he skipped, saying he had flu-like symptoms on June 9 and had undertaken a COVID test as per protocol. His lawyer had then said that Vadra had no intention of avoiding summons and was ready to appear before the ED anytime before or after his travel abroad later this month. The agency is understood to have summoned Vadra to record his statement under the PMLA and subsequently file a chargesheet in the case. The federal probe agency had questioned the businessman for three consecutive days in April in a separate money laundering case linked to alleged irregularities in a 2008 land deal in Haryana. He is being investigated in three money laundering cases by the ED. Bhandari (63) fled to London in 2016, soon after the Income Tax Department raided him in Delhi. A UK court earlier this month refused an application filed by the Indian government seeking permission to appeal in Britain's Supreme Court against the discharge of Bhandari in an extradition case, virtually ruling out chances of him being brought to the country to face the law. The ED filed a chargesheet in this case in 2023, alleging that Bhandari acquired the 12, Bryanston Square house in London in 2009 and got it renovated "as per the directions of Robert Vadra, who provided the funds for the renovation". Vadra has denied that he owns any London property directly or indirectly. Terming the charges a "political witch hunt", Vadra said he was being "hounded and harassed" to subserve political ends. The ED is also investigating Vadra in a separate money laundering case linked to alleged financial irregularities in a land deal in Rajasthan's Bikaner.

Sonam honeymoon murder: Victim's kin demand narco test on Sonam's parents, brother
The elder brother of Raja Raghuvanshi, an Indore-based transport businessman murdered while honeymooning in Meghalaya, on Monday (June 16, 2025), demanded a narco-analysis test on prime accused Sonam's parents and said the family suspects the involvement of more people in the killing. Police have arrested five people, including Raja Raghuvanshi's wife Sonam (25) and her alleged lover Raj Kushwaha (20), for their alleged involvement in the 29-year-old businessman's murder last month. They are in the Meghalaya police's custody, and an SIT is probing the case. Also read: Raja Raghuvanshi's kin seeks narco test on Sonam, her lover to bare 'full truth' Talking to reporters during Raghuvanshi's 13th-day death ritual in Indore, his elder brother, Vipin Raghuvanshi, said, 'We want a narco-analysis test on Sonam, her parents, brother Govind and sister-in-law.' Sonam is accused of getting her husband killed during their honeymoon with the help of Kushwaha and three others in a case which has sent shockwaves across the country. The other three accused, Vishal Chauhan, Akash Rajput and Anand Kurmi, were initially suspected to be hired killers, but the police later found they were friends of Kushwaha. Vipin Raghuvanshi said, 'New videos related to the murder are surfacing one after the other. We believe more people might be involved in my younger brother's killing.' He also demanded that people who posted these videos on social media also be questioned and asked why they had not released the footage earlier. He, however, expressed satisfaction with the Meghalaya police's probe. 'Our family is happy with the investigation,' he added. Meanwhile, Sonam's brother Govind attended the ritual feast, although the Raghuvanshi family said he had not been invited. 'I am here to seek forgiveness. If anyone suspects us, we are asking to be investigated. We stand with Raja Raghuvanshi's family,' he told reporters. Govind had also taken part in Raja Raghuvanshi's post-death ritual in Ujjain on June 13. However, tensions between Govind and the Raghuvanshi family appear to be growing. The victim's other brother, Sachin Raghuvanshi, said, 'I didn't speak to Govind during the ceremony. He may have come to show sympathy. We did not invite him.' As per the case details, a few days after their wedding, Raja and Sonam left for Sohra (also called Cherrapunjee) in Meghalaya's East Khasi Hills district and went missing on May 23. His body was found in a gorge near Weisawdong Falls on June 2 while a search continued for Sonam. She emerged in Uttar Pradesh's Ghazipur, around 1,200 km away from the crime spot, in the early hours of June 9 and surrendered before police.
