IndiGo signs MoU with Airbus to double A350 orders to 60 arcraft
By Aman Shukla Published on June 1, 2025, 17:58 IST IndiGo has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Airbus to convert 30 of its purchase rights into a firm order for A350-900 aircraft. This move increases the airline's wide-body aircraft order from 30 to 60 aircraft, reinforcing its strategy to expand long-haul international operations. The original agreement, signed in April 2024, included a firm order for 30 A350-900 aircraft with purchase rights for 70 more. Deliveries from that initial order are scheduled to begin in 2027. The A350-900 aircraft will be equipped with Rolls-Royce Trent XWB engines. These aircraft are expected to support IndiGo's international expansion plans by enabling direct connectivity between major Indian cities and long-haul destinations across Europe, Asia, and other global regions. The airline also aims to strengthen its codeshare network with partner airlines through increased access to global hubs. In addition to the firm orders, IndiGo began preparations for long-haul operations in March 2025 by leasing six wide-body aircraft on a temporary basis. Deliveries of these leased aircraft are expected to conclude by 2026. India currently ranks as the world's third-largest aviation market. With growing government support for infrastructure and a vision to develop India as a global aviation hub, the long-haul segment represents a significant area of growth for domestic carriers. IndiGo's expanded A350 fleet positions the airline to participate more actively in international markets and align with evolving passenger demand for direct long-haul travel. Maharashtra FDA suspends Zepto's Food Business license in Dharavi after hygiene violations
By Aman Shukla Published on June 1, 2025, 14:12 IST Zepto, the fast-growing quick-commerce platform, has had its food business license suspended at its Dharavi facility in Mumbai. The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) took strict action following an inspection that revealed multiple food safety violations. According to the FDA, Kiranakart Technologies (Zepto) was found violating key provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, and the Food Safety and Standards (Licensing and Registration of Food Businesses) Regulations, 2011. Inspectors observed fungal growth on food items and discovered that products were stored near clogged water, creating unhygienic and unsafe conditions. The FDA inspection further noted poor maintenance of cold-storage temperatures, which did not comply with regulatory guidelines. Additionally, the facility had wet and dirty floors, and raw materials and food products were stored haphazardly. Expired food products were not separated from fresh stock, increasing the risk to consumer health. The inspection was conducted based on information received from the Minister of State for FDA, Yogen Kadam. Following the findings, Anupamaa Balasaheb Patil, Assistant Commissioner (Food), ordered the immediate suspension of Zepto's food business license under Section 32(3) of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, and Regulation 2.1.8(4) of the Licensing and Registration Regulations, 2011. Zepto has not yet issued an official response. The food business license will remain suspended until the company rectifies all safety and hygiene issues and complies with FDA standards.
