
Veteran Indian expats honoured for over four decades of dedicated expatriate life in Qatar

In a heartfelt tribute to the unwavering dedication and lifelong service of senior Indian expatriates, the Center for Indian Community (CIC)–Rayyan Zone organised a grand felicitation ceremony on the occasion of International Workers' Day. The event was held to honour members who have completed over 40 years of expatriate life in Qatar, celebrating their resilience, sacrifices, and significant contributions to both the nation of Qatar and the Indian community residing there.
The ceremony shone a spotlight on the extraordinary journeys of individuals who arrived in Qatar decades ago, during a time when the nation was undergoing rapid transformation. Among the most senior of those honoured was KH Kunhimohammed from Padoor, Thrissur, who has spent an incredible 48 years in Qatar. Closely following him was PK Mohammed from Perumbavoor, who has completed 47.5 years of expatriate service. Their remarkable stories exemplify the spirit of endurance, loyalty, and community leadership.
Also recognised at the event were Haris Koorikkalakatha from Pappinisseri in Kannur, NP Ashraf from Puthumanassery in Thrissur, Abdul Sathar from Karuvannur in Thrissur, AT Abdul Salam from Perumpadappu in Malappuram, Razak Karatt from Koduvally in Kozhikode, PV Abdul Salam from Ramanattukara in Kozhikode, Abdul Jaleel MM from Venkitangu in Thrissur, and Ameer TK from Eriyad in Thrissur. In a special mention, BM Laila, a respected member of Women India Qatar, was also honoured for her contributions, symbolising the vital role women have played in nurturing and strengthening the expatriate community.
The event began with a soulful recitation by Fasalurrahman, setting a solemn and respectful tone. CIC Rayyan Zone Vice President Subul Abdul Aziz presided over the function and paid tribute to the honourees, recognising their invaluable role in bridging cultures and building community resilience over the decades.
The felicitation ceremony was organised under the leadership of zonal committee members Abdul Basith, Rafeeq Thangal, and Siddique Vengara, along with the Secretary of Women India – Rayyan Zone, Zainaba Abdul Jaleel. Their coordination and dedication ensured the event was dignified, meaningful, and memorable.
As each veteran was invited to the stage and honoured with a token of appreciation, the atmosphere was filled with pride and gratitude. The event stood as a powerful reminder of the sacrifices made by countless Indian expatriates who, while building their lives far from home, remained rooted in their culture and committed to community service. The evening not only acknowledged their legacy but also inspired younger generations to value the foundations laid by those who came before them.

Omar Bin Al-Khattab School celebrates year of achievements

We are honoured to share in these shining moments that mark a significant chapter in the school's history.' During the ceremony, the school administration — represented by Principal Ismail Abdul Baki Shams, Academic Vice Principal Haisam Mohammad Al-Faraj, and Administrative Vice Principal Omar Mansour Al-Borshaid — honoured the educators and administrative staff whose contributions helped the school achieve 43 notable accomplishments this academic year. Omar Bin Al-Khattab Secondary School concluded the academic year with global recognition, earning a gold medal at the ITEX International Innovation Exhibition in Malaysia and a special award from the Kingdom of Thailand — a testament to the global quality of its student innovations. The school also secured first place in the Line-Following Robot Competition in Tunisia, second place in the GCC Robotics Championship in the UAE, and second place in the Sumo Robot category. In the scientific field, students participated in the International Chemistry Olympiad held in Brazil and Canada, secured first place in the Sustainability and Energy Efficiency Competition, and won a gold medal for their innovative design of multifunctional composite membranes for wastewater treatment.

Qatar attains top-tier rankings in public transport indicators
Tribune News Network Doha Qatar ranks first in the Middle East and North Africa region in terms of the 'Share of Populations with Convenient Access to Public Transport', with 91.7%, according to the International Association of Public Transport (UITP)'s 'MENA Transport Report 2025' issued by the Centre for Transport Excellence. This year's edition broadened its scope, covering public transportation systems in 40 cities across 14 MENA countries. Doha has the world's highest number of kilometers per million inhabitants (64km/1 million population) compared to several world capital cities. Doha also ranks third globally in terms of number of public buses for every one million inhabitants (969 buses/1 million inhabitants), which reflects Qatar's significant investment in public transportation. Regarding the metro network fleet, Doha comes fourth globally in terms of number of metro cars (278 cars/1 million inhabitants). The UITP report lists Qatar among the top 20 countries in the world in terms of public transportation user experience alongside Amsterdam, Geneva and Singapore. The report shows Qatar as one of the most efficient countries in terms of public transportation fare according to the Purchasing Power Parity, making public transportation affordable for all. page 3
