‘Draconian' Victorian Government imposes hefty fine for farmers

Sky News AU4 hours ago

Victoria Shadow Treasurer James Newbury says the Victorian Government is telling farmers they will be fined $12,210 if they block transmission companies land access.
'It's shocking and they're doing this not just to regional Victoria, but also in the city,' Mr Newbury told Sky News host Steve Price.
'The government is taking over planning controls … now saying to farmers we're going to come along with a massive stick if you say no.
'What the government's doing is draconian.'

‘Digital Trojan horse': Social media ban sparks fears of ‘surveillance state snare trap'

Liberal senator Alex Antic says the new social media ban for children under the age of 16 is a 'digital Trojan horse,' sparking fears of a surveillance trap. 'This is, first of all, never going to work, secondly, this is really nothing more than a digital Trojan horse for the surveillance state,' Mr Antic told Sky News host James Macpherson. 'Everybody has to go through the process of recognition and ID in order to make sure the kids aren't using social media. 'This is going to be biometrics and facial ID for everyone … the surveillance state snare trap is on us.'

‘It's got to stop': Victorian crime statistics reveal ‘rampant' uptick in offences

Sky News contributor Joe Hildebrand comments on Victorian crime statistics. 'As I keep saying, there's absolutely nothing progressive about letting crime run rampant and letting criminals onto the street,' Mr Hildebrand told Sky News host Steve Price. 'This overwhelmingly affects people in the already most socially disadvantaged suburbs, they are the ones to be far more likely victims of crime. 'It's got to stop.'
