Tornado watches issued in central, southern Illinois through tonight, NWS says. Here's where
Tornado watches and warnings have been issued across major parts of central and southern Illinois, as well as counties south of Chicago, according to the National Weather Service.
Some have even been spotted forming by local residents, including multiple photographed by weatherman and storm-chaser Jesse Risley in Menard and Cass County.
Here's what we know.
A tornado watch was issued across large swaths of central and south Illinois this morning until 4 p.m. this evening, covering major cities like Springfield and Peoria.
Tornado warnings were later issued in the following cities until 1 p.m.:
Mechanicsburg
Buffalo
Cornland
Havana
Ashland
Chandlerville
Easton
Rochester
Illiopolis
Niantic
Tornado warnings are currently in effect in the following cities until 1:15 p.m.
Oakland
Newman
Hume
Mason City
Petersburg
Greenview
As of 12:15 p.m. today, a tornado watch was in effect until 7 p.m. in Livingston, Grundy Will, Kankakee, Ford and Iroquois counties.
Watch out for tornadoes, hail and gusts up to 75 mph. Be prepared to take shelter, monitor weather conditions and stay up to date with weather alerts.

The NWS explains the difference between the varying tornado alert terminology on its website.
A tornado watch means tornadoes are possible in the area, while a tornado warning means a twister has been sighted or indicated by the weather radar. A tornado emergency is the most severe alert, meaning a violent tornado has touched down in the area.
The website uses the phrases "be prepared," "take action" and "seek shelter immediately" to summarize the three alerts.
Those who are home should go to an interior room without windows, making sure not to forget family or pets. Groups at work or school should follow pre-determined tornado drills, making sure to stay away from large open rooms, such as cafeterias and gymnasiums.
Individuals outside should quickly proceed to sturdy, safe buildings, avoiding sheds, storage facilities, mobile homes and tents. Avoid being in a vehicle during a tornado by driving to the nearest shelter or abandoning your car to seek shelter in a low-lying area, such as a ditch or ravine. If you're unable to leave your vehicle, get down in your car and cover your head.

Philadelphia crews hit snag repairing 2-month-old sinkhole in Point Breeze
Frustration is growing over a sinkhole that's been plaguing a neighborhood in Philadelphia's Point Breeze neighborhood for almost two months. The gaping hole in the ground is being covered with plywood on Sigel Street near South 20th Street. Not only is it an eyesore, it's a safety hazard disrupting life for nearby residents. "It's just frustrating," Ben Sugarman, from Point Breeze, said. "Deliveries can't come through because it's all blocked off. Kids are still playing around it and one board moves, you know, who knows what can happen." The sinkhole emerged in late April after a six-inch water main broke. While the main was repaired within a day, the city admitted there was a delay in fixing the sinkhole because of a miscommunication. No maintenance order was created after initial repairs were made, officials said. "I just think we got forgotten again," Paul McGannon, from Point Breeze, said. "That's what it seems like. They admitted before there was a miscommunication, so what's going on now?" CBS News Philadelphia has learned crews have encountered a setback. The Philadelphia Water Department said in a statement: "We are currently waiting for repairs to be made on two private sewer laterals damaged in the sinkhole. That work is scheduled for June 24. Once the repairs are made and the homes are reconnected to the City system, the excavation site will be filled in, and we will request that the Streets Department restore the roadway. We hope to have the street reopened as soon as possible and appreciate the patience of residents on the block." In the meantime, residents continue to wait. "The city is definitely taking a while," Michael Werwinski, from Point Breeze, said. "It's definitely tough at the end of the day for getting a parking spot on the street."

East San Jose resident grateful for fire crews help during evacuation
SAN JOSE — Everyone is back in their homes after a grass fire in the East San Jose foothills burned through nearly 100 acres on Tuesday, but some residents said they were rattled by the experience. It is being called the Ranch Place Fire, and it is now 100 percent contained. The fire came less than 20 feet from some homes, including Jesus Garcia's on Sierra Road near Skyview Drive. "I was afraid, for me, for my wife, and for my house too," Garcia explained. He was working outside just after 4 p.m. when the fire started, he looked up and saw the flames coming his way. "Yes, a lot of smoke, black smoke," Garcia said. "I was working over here in my front yard. Cutting my trees, when I saw smoke coming from the bottom of the hill." He needed to evacuate, but didn't know how he would leave his home. His wife is sick and bedridden. He said he was grateful firefighters stepped in to assist. "They helped me to put my wife in an ambulance," Garcia said. They said they watched together as they waited at the hospital to see if they're home would survive. "Watching the news, watching the fire very close to my house," Garcia said. Garcia's home and all other structures were spared. It was a large fire, requiring mutual aid from Cal Fire, as well as nearly 50 fire engines, two helicopters and five airtankers. Battalion Chief Brad Cloutier said with more warm weather on the way, people need to be proactive. "We ask people to, especially in this area of San Jose, to have a defense around their structure," said Cloutier. "Don't have grass growing right up against your building, don't have leaves in the gutter. Don't start a barbecue at 2 o'clock in the afternoon, minimize chances for starting a fire." The fire started near Ranch Place and Cliff Drive. Some neighbors who didn't want to appear on camera said they believe someone was cutting their grass when there was a spark. Cloutier said they can't confirm that yet, and they are still investigating the cause of the fire. "That can be an issue where the mowers with their metal blades can create sparks," explained Cloutier. "Right now, this fire is still under investigation through ours and Cal Fire's fire cause investigators, so we'll be looking into that." While the fire didn't reach Garcia's property, his mailbox was knocked over by a firetruck. He said that's an easy fix, and he's fortunate that was the worst of it. "I'm lucky, because everything is here," said Garcia. "I have my life. I have my house safe. But I got scared for a little bit." Fire crews continued to stop by the neighborhood all afternoon to monitor the area. They'll continue to do that as long as it is needed.

It came a day after the Group F clash between Mamelodi Sundowns and Ulsan was delayed for 65-minutes due to weather concerns in Orlando.
