Officials: Former Detroit police officer charged in fatal accident in Roseville
A former Detroit police officer is charged in a fatal accident in Macomb County last year in which a motorcyclist died.
Corey Siquan Jones, 28, was arraigned Friday in 39th District Court in Roseville on a charge of moving violation causing death, a one-year misdemeanor. He was released on a $5,000 personal bond, according to a release Monday from the county prosecutor's office and online district court records.
Jones, while off-duty, was accused of driving through a red light Aug. 16 and was struck by a motorcyclist who was traveling lawfully through the green light at the Interstate 94 service drive and 12 Mile Road in Roseville, according to the release and Dawn Fraylick, communications director for the prosecutor's office.
Evan Newman, 27, of St. Clair Shores, died at the scene, according to the release. Fraylick indicated in an email to the Free Press that Jones, of Roseville, was driving a Jeep Cherokee. No drugs or alcohol were involved. She stated Jones was not hurt.

Jones' attorney, Vincent Toussaint, said Monday that he had no comment at that time.
Detroit Police Officer Justin Hearn, a spokesman, indicated in a text message to the Free Press that Hearn resigned in December.
Roseville police presented the case to the county prosecutor's office Feb. 12, and charges were authorized the same day, according to the release.
"Police officers are sworn to uphold the law, but they are also bound by it. No one is above the law, and our justice system must apply equally to all," Prosecutor Peter Lucido stated in his office's release.
A probable cause conference is set for March 5.

Motorcyclist dead in high speed crash on Interstate 96 in Detroit, police say
A 30-year-old man is dead after a motorcycle crash on Interstate 96 in Detroit Friday night. Michigan State police say multiple people called 911 around 9:25 p.m. to report a motorcycle that was down on the westbound side of I-96 near Evergreen Road, and that the driver, later identified as the man, was missing. A helicopter crew operating Trooper 2 in the area saw that the man was motionless on the eastbound side of the highway. Responding troopers on the ground located the motorcycle and the man, who died at the scene, officials say. According to investigators, the man was driving westbound on the highway near Evergreen Road at a high speed when he lost control of the motorcycle and hit a concrete wall. The man was then ejected from the bike and landed in the eastbound lanes of I-96. No one else was involved in the crash, police say.

Jail records show that Jones was booked into Kenton County Jail on June 7 and is facing charges of public intoxication, disorderly conduct and assaulting a police officer. The former Bengals player was arrested by Covington police and booked at 1:51 a.m. ET. Records show that Jones was later released after posting bond at 11:32 a.m. ET. Covington police officers were called to the Second Story Bar on West Sixth Street at approximately 12:44 a.m. on June 7 following a report of a "disturbance involving a customer and an employee," police said in a news release. When police arrived, they were alerted to a car trying to leave the area, per the release. Officers conducted a traffic stop and the 41-year-old Jones was identified as a passenger. Police arrested Jones "on charges related to his level of intoxication and his behavior," according to the release. Officials said he'd been consuming alcohol. Jones was transported to the Kenton County Detention Center and assaulted the arresting officer while being lodged, police say. Officials said it caused a minor injury. "The Covington Police Department takes incidents of this nature very seriously. We are committed to maintaining peace and ensuring the safety of all who live in or visit Covington," the department said. "Adam Jones is being held to the same standard of conduct as any other individual in our community." Jones has a history of legal issues. He was arrested in November for an altercation at a Dallas hotel following the Mike Tyson vs. Jake Paul fight. A year earlier, Jones pleaded guilty to a disorderly conduct charge in Boone County District Court. The former Bengals standout was arrested early Sept. 11 after Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport police responded to a call about an unruly passenger on a United Airlines flight, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer.
